    What I like about Globe Trotter Alpha videos is that there is no music, and no narrating from the camera man. Instead you hear the sounds of the place and the camera moves at waking pace, smoothly. I like the Old Jerusalem one too. Please continue to make this type of video, it makes me feel I am really there, even if it is a place I cannot travel to.

      Its a pretty chill place. I've lived here since i was 2 and i'm 17 now. Its not always the most lively with events (except for flames games and stampede) but theres fun to be had and its also peaceful at the same time. I can't make the decision for u but if its what u want to do i wouldnt recommend against it

    Canadian cities are built for conducting business and are a good place to start a family. Lived there for more than 20 years. The problem is that everything that could be construed as 'fun' are officially frowned upon and even discouraged with bylaws, fines, and fees. It's a place also that seems designed for introverts in that random socializing with strangers just doesn't really happen leading to a fair amount of social isolation. If you're a fun loving extrovert, Canada won't appeal to you. If an introvert who loves nature and just wants to settle down with a family, it's a fairly good place.

    • @Smokeshowgg
      @Smokeshowgg 8 лет назад +1

      that is an over generalization, what kind of funs are forbidden?

    • @ddicin7759
      @ddicin7759 8 лет назад

      not forbidden, regulated out of existence. Or fee'd into unprofitability. NIMBYs are rife in canuckistan and their concerns taken seriously by the powers that be (which regard any deviance from accepted practice as an opportunity to generate some juicy fee revenue for the town/city). Other places I've lived in are more free-wheeling and easy going, that's all. Not a critique, really; some people love to live in law and order environments but I'm not one of them.

      D dicin extrovert gets on my nerves. I don't like being bothered and have baseless conversions with strangers. I love Canada

    • @mr99boxer30
      @mr99boxer30 6 лет назад +1

      @D dicin Might depend on the age of the Canadian and his type of fun. We have Canadians from Winnipeg drive down to Grand Forks, ND and Fargo ND to dine, shop, and socialize all the time on weekends. Our Hotels and restaurants and drinking establishments would rate Canadians high on the party scale. Ha. But that could be a reflection of our cheap beer and liquor. Maybe Canada should reduce taxes on Beer, liquor and even milk. Then Canadians could have a little fun at home for less. My Wish. Our Costco's are filled with Canadian license plates buying milk and other lower priced goods. I guess they are smart. Cheers !

    Man lots of people are asking questions. I've lived in Calgary for my whole life, I'll try to answer them.
    Calgary has a mild climate, but it usually doesn't get below -30C or above +30C.
    It is the fastest growing city in Canada and it's pretty easy to find a job.
    And for a 1,200,000 pop city, it doesn't have much crime. There is only about 60 assaults each year. (Detroit has over 400)
    My cousin from Kelowna came to Calgary and complained about the air quality, as most of you might unless you've lived in a big city before. But after a few months you'll get used to it. And it's not like it's the worst air quality either.
    Calgary is an artistic city with lots of art and art museums all around, and truly you will never get bored here.
    Being so close to the mountains and having anything you want, groceries, stores, food, gas, anything really just minutes away, Calgary is in one of the best positions on earth.
    And if you really want to see all Calgary can be, go during stampede week, the first half of July. The greatest outdoor show on earth not only doubles the people in the city, but brings in $400,000,000 each year. It is a spectacular 10 days of all things Canadian/Calgarian/Western.
    Calgary truly is a great place to live. And nothing against other cities, but it's the only place I would ever want to live.

    That was awesome! I especially liked the urban "subway". I've ridden the subways I'm from NYC, and I have rode the rails but never have I seen anything like this. I would vacation in Calgary just for that particular experience. Everything was so beautiful. Watching this was almost like being there. Everything was so vivid. Bucket list definitely. Goodnight.

      True. By the time someone's in their forties they start looking for an exit plan. Winter is hard to endure and life's short, so why bother with it. Only desperate people move to northern climes. I mean, the population of Finland is 5 million, Norway 5 and Sweden only has 10 million; people don't like the lack of sunshine and the cold weather of the north.

Your smaller towns and city buildings look like "quaint English Colonial buildings". Very beautiful. But, I expected your squirrels to be better trained than ours, you know "British proper and reserved", but your squirrels steal the bird seed just like our wild ones. The RCMP should look into that. We don't get the chinook winds in Fargo ND. I am jealous. Cheers ! Hope to visit someday !

      Aerials would be great but it would be difficult to get good natural sounds, unless by natural sounds you want to listen to the wind blowing.
      Plus, getting permission to fly drones in the city is hard. The other day I've heard of a person being arrested in Paris for flying a drone equipped with a camera on it. He spent a few days in jail and was fined as well.

    Calgary society is lacking in communication. Nothing but the work. A good job is not easy to find and like any where else in Canada for a good paid job you need connections. Def you gonna find a decent job here more than anywhere else in a shorter period of time, What most of people do is they come to Calgary for 3-5 years and they move somewhere nicer. If you are coming from a village or a small place you gonna love this city. But if you are coming from a big city and urban lifestyle then you wont like it here at all.

Calgary has generally 5 months of cold weather which is broken up with Chinooks the springs can be mild with some snowfall but that is short lived. summers can be hot but are pleasant and the fall is awe inspiring with some snow.

      Harjot Minhas I graduated from University of Toronto in Economics. As you can imagine, I did not find anything in Toronto. Its been 3 weeks I moved here. So far no call. But I am hopeful. Since, you are in a very specialized field, I think it takes time, but it is definitely easier than Toronto. Toronto is saturated with educated people. The number of jobs in Calgary-Edmonton Area combined are less, but the chances are higher. I have seen my friends living here. If you cant find anything in Toronto, I would suggest you to move to Edmonton, cause I see most people like me are coming to Calgary rather than Edmonton.

      I lived in Toronto for 3 years and I am here in Calgary for 2 years. You can't compare both cities. During the LONG cold winter months and has nothing to do at all except you are working or in school this city is completely boring unlike Toronto. It's Dec.25, 2017 now and as you can see the city is like dead, the transport system especially on weekends are far apart you froze to death if you are out of nowhere streets with or without sheds.

    • @GsunnyGGamer
      @GsunnyGGamer 6 лет назад +3

      statistically calgary is better than both of them, reason why its the fastest growing city even after a recession. Wages are crazy high, cost of living is less, younger crowd low taxes, educated immigrants unlike Toronto/Vancouver. Only thing it suffers is cold winter days and low density so especially in winter the city can feel quite boring. The later problem is being cured as we speak over the next few decades as the city densifies.

    • @donwurbadit
      @donwurbadit 6 лет назад +1

      There are 4 major malls, Cross Iron, Market Mall, South Centre, and Chinook Mall. They are all modern and beautiful. Cross Iron is more of a discount 'outlet'
      mall, the others are more for more expensive goods. Then there is the Core downtown, with a lot of high end shopping, and an indoor garden that is amazing. It
      all depends on what you are looking for. Then there is Banff, about an hour away, with world class scenery, and it's own unique shops. You won't be disappointed.

    • @donwurbadit
      @donwurbadit 6 лет назад +1

      You are welcome. If you want to go crazy shopping, a 3 hour drive north to Edmonton, there is West Edmonton Mall, one of the largest in north america. Also has amusement park, enormous pool, seals, bowling, theatre etc. Quite the experience. Welcome to Canada!

      MONERISplayzTM : NOT if you do sports. Can be quite isolating if one is not into sports. Not keen on the yearly “Stampede” culture. City has bad quality air especially just after winter. Way toooo cold and dangerous for the elderly. Walking on ice is no fun. I like Calgary in the 80’s - 90’s; then, it became a city of work, work, work: professional then domestic. But not a bad place for career-minded ppl.

      Really Lady!? You have to grind your little social axe here? Think about it, no matter how shitty someone's life is in Canada, it's probably 1000 times better than the lives of some of the reader of these comments. In Canada, if you fall and break your leg, you can have it fixed no charge. In most other countries, you'd better find yourself a stick. In Canada, if you're down and out, there's a social safety net to catch you, in the U.S. and most other countries, you'd be living in a cardboard box on the street. Yeah, some people fall through the cracks, but there's yet to be a perfect system developed anywhere, and until there is, Canada is still the best place in the world to raise a family.

      Nurit L Doesn't pay the rent!!?? Imagine the cost of paying the rent for hundreds of thousands of deadbeats who decide working is for saps, especially if the government is going to pay to put a roof over their head. Only a demented socialist would even consider the idea.

      Nurit L While Canada's social safety net is not as benevolent as some European countries, it does cover the most essential components, such as health care, employment insurance, reasonable pensions, etc. Canada does this without having "insane taxes", the rates of personal income tax being generally in line with those of similar countries, such as Australia.

      Nurit L Yes, I've been unemployed, and when I was, I didn't sit on my ass crying about it, I started a company. That company ended up growing to $110,000.00 per month, before I transformed it into an even larger company that did $6 million per year. At 15% you must be talking about the GST in Quebec.. Most countries have a similar system, and if you'd been further than Toronto, you'd know that. When I arrived in Australia, I found their total VAT was 24%.. The UK VAT rate is 20%, France is the same, because the EU sets the VAT rate for the whole of the Union. So suck it up Sweetheart, quit bitch'n and enjoy your life in what's probably the best country in the world.
