    Never attempted to do something like this before, always “ easier” to take vehicle to a garage and have it done, but with your video I finally decided to give it a try on my 2016 Grand Cherokee. Glad I did, everything went great, video had all I needed, saved a couple hundred bucks, thanks !!!

    Great presentation. I like the way you go back and do your final checks after the installation is done. I worked in aviation maintenance all my life and that is exactly the procedure we do. One difference we are required to have someone else look over our completed work again. Overkill? Keep up the fine videos I truly enjoy your attention to detail.

    Outstanding video. Extremely well explained and I appreciate the summary of the steps completed towards the end of the video. Glad I watched as this will be the first Grand Cherokee I have done the brakes on and I had no idea about the o-ring. I have never seen that on a cars I have done.

    Thanks for the confidence inspiring video. A tip for those with - if you have an older WK2 (mine is a 2015 with 100K) with original brake pads, your rattle could be caused by rusted mounting studs on the break pads. They make the little pressure mounting tabs out of cheap metal and they literally rust away with time and then allow the pads to make an annoying rattle over bumps (can occur on rear as well). I live in Cleveland, OH where they dump a lot of salt on our roads, so if you go longer than say 5 years, and live in a similar environment you may have the same issue. Simple fix with new pads (although both my rotors and pads had another 10-15K in them). I have NEVER had a set of pads last longer than 35-40K - Jeep did a great job engineering the pads and rotors to match the WK2 (mine is V6)! When I went to replace them, I paid up for MOPAR parts hoping to get same results again - don't mess with success!

    Thank you!!!!! That wrench trick on the bottom caliper bolt was genius!!! Kept me from having to run to the parts store trying to find shorter bits!

    excellent video sir i did brakes in the 80s when you had front disc and rear drum and you had to clean the wheel cylinders out with a hone. i just needed tool info on my 14 overland.
    great job great patience great explanation. geat safety call out on open had which is what we teach at cat. awesome

    very good explanation of the job. Also, very important note you pointed out about not pushing on a ranch with a closed hand. Although, I’m sure everybody will still make that mistake once in a while. Where in New Jersey is your shop located?

    I sure like how everything always comes apart so easy on these videos, I have been turning the 2 bolts for 15 minutes and they will not come out far enough for the caliper to come off. The bolt just spins, and spins and spins..

      They are out just get a flat head screwdriver and gently push them by the treads, just stuck in plastic boot

      Thanks, that is exactly what I did shortly after my post. I also used a 3'8" breaker bar to break the bottom bolt loose as the rachet did not fit, I tried the wrench trick on the bit socket but it was too small.

    I noticed that you didn't mention anything about opening the master cylinder reservoir during piston compression. Is that something that has to be done? I have changed brakes on my own cars in the past and have never done that. I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is nearing a brake change and I was just curious if that is something that I should do.

    Hi Jim what’s the purpose of the o-ring is it just to help hold the rotors in place and what if that o-ring got lost damage is it a big deal

      Its for the assembly line, instead of screw, they use o ring. So if it breaks, rot or gets lost, its of no concern. Hope this helps.

    Hi Jim. Great video but I got hung up on one thing. The rotor wouldn't come off, essentially a rust ring (I assume) holding the parking brake shoes. I found the adjuster behind the rotor plate or whatever it is. But I have no visibility at all on which way the adjuster is oriented and which way to spin the adjuster and is it the opposite way for each side. Do you know this info or do you have a video on that on the Jeep? I have a Summit series and all the air suspension components don't help with visibility. I do not have a brake spoon and plan to get one. If you see these messages, please comment when you can. THANK YOU!

    2016 jeep grand Cherokee uses a 11mm allen key to hold caliper to bracket. ordered from Amazon

    FCA service manual says in all caps NO GREASE. There was none from the factory. The only place you should have put grease was on the hub so you can get the rotor off someday.

    My 2017 Has the Quad Lift suspension and the rear Air Bag is larger than the coil spring, I couldn't get a ratchet and 7mm socket drive behind caliper

      I saw a guy on another video take off the caliper mounting bracket first - with the caliper still attached, then he could get to the 7 mm Allen head guide pins.

    Great video. A lot of other videos say to use a 11mm for the caliber pins. You're video is right on for the 7mm caliber pins. Good job!

      thank you, i noticed that as well from other videos, even looked up the parts straight from Mopar and they don't give a size. but I did see the 2017 uses the exact same pins and bolts as the 2014 in this video, so now i know what bit i need to add to my bag before starting this tonight.

      11mm for the fronts if it's the same style caliper as the rear. Just the slide pin size is bigger.

    You need slide lube on the slides, and it's 100 times easier to remove the 18MM bolts and take the caliper off then hit the 7MM alen bolts. If you don't do this, then it's a nightmare to get them in and out.
    You also need blue locktite on the 18MM bolts, and they need torqued.
