I never thought I'd hear Monostratos as Waldemar! And Tove giving a masterclass in the art of the vocal wobble. Extraordinary.
The orchestra, however, is truly excellent (seriously).

Rued Langgaard, at age 18, used the same orchestra idea of repeating triads at the very end of his massive Symphony #1, completed at the same time (available on YT). He also seems to refer to the work in his opera Antikirst. The symphony is rarely played but sounds familiar at first hearing (it may have inspired "Sound of Music"). Langgaard must have heard GurreLieder performed before finishing his first symphony and been influenced by Schoenberg's style of post-romanticism.

Yes, so was I when I checked the Proms programme looking for a real showpiece that I could invite my wife to, as she is not so into classics as I am, and I was horrified to see that this was the only significant event we both had available. So I started to search for recordings on RUclips and started playing it as often as I could (and encouraging her to do so too). We ordered our tickets - me in the promenade are close to the platform and her in the cheapest seats up near the gallery (that's how she wanted it!). The closer we got to the date, the more hooked on this piece I was. It is now one of my all-time favourites and often go to it at home to plays at full volume in the house. My wife was impressed too, though I think more with the grandeur of the event, the huge orchestra, the two choirs, etc., than the music itself. Tell all your friends!
