    Thanks for the mention buddy. You did great explaining how to sharp the blade also🙂. Lawn is looking well good. I also did a 15mm cut Saturday. 🙂 I set my Qualcast Panther so the back roller just about slides on the lawn when you pull it back and then back it off the blade one notch so it's catching the bedknife with a slight grinding sound. I find this stops the ribbing effect like @markslade mentioned. 🙂

      It's set pure now so let's hope the ribbing dissipates

    What a coincidence mate, backlapped my webb weh12r only this morning, and got a notification of you doing yours🤣🤣🤣looking great mate, but I think you may find the ribbing you mention is down to your reel being too loose, so too much of a clearance between the cylinder and bedknife. I have found that to be the case with my Weh12r. Once you adjust the two knobs clockwise to bring the cylinder in light contact with the bedknife, you will find you won't get that ribbing effect😉
    I have loads of cylinder mowers, and the qualcast panther is 5 blade same as your Webb Weh12r, the Ransomes ajax is a six blade not 8, it is the vintage Webb witch that is 8 blade. Also I have a 12" greens zephyr that is 8 blade, the jp maxees is 6 blade. Those Falkenstein look lovely mowers but are so expensive. I was looking at drilling a hole in the rear plastic roller of the Webb Weh12r to see if it is hollow, if so was then going to fill the rear roller with sand and cement as a way to make it slightly heavier. But I have all my vintage push mowers that are like 20Kg plus in weight, so didn't bother, and sometimes when tired prefer the lightness of the mainly plastic weh12r😂😂😂

      I thought I'd give it a sharpen and well worth it!
      I saw a video by jacobsen (I think) that was about number or blades and the cut but it makes sense what you say about a loose reel. The reel to bedknife seems to be set pure now, so hopefully this ribbing will be eliminated in the next few cuts!!!
      If not, another excuse to get a new mower!!!!

      @@TheReelMowingMowingClub deffo mate, I have found it myself, never got ribbing with my Weh12r, but after a few months noticed it started to rib, because after a while due to wear the clearance increases between bedknife and cylinder, one clockwise click then on the adjusting knobs each side so the cylinder has slight contact with the bedknife, but can still rotate fine (so you get a slight wisp sound), and no more washboard ribbing look👍 When I backlap my Weh12r also, to save time and effort, I just turn the mower upside down, coat the blades with my chemico water based lapping paste, and kick the rear roller backwards with my foot, wash it off with water afterwards and job done. All my vintage ones though I do use a drill and socket on the cylinder sprocket nut in reverse.

      @markslade9722 I've done the kicking method before 🤣 not a fan. Backlapped with the chain on last time and it messed up the chain!! So removal of the chain I'm happy with. Also I get to play engineer!

      Greenforce Weedkiller? I assume the warning is to cover them. Lots of warnings are belt and braces. I reckon I could get away with it on my lawn.
      Unfortunately nothing will fight off poa that an amateur can applybin the UK, other than a fork and diligence

    How do you get hollows out of a garden, or what's the est thing to fill them with. Just ordinary top soil?

    • @TheReelMowingMowingClub
      @TheReelMowingMowingClub  2 месяца назад +1

      Top soil will work, but it can degrade over a long time. A sandy soil is better as it will retain structure and levels longer.
      You can either cut the turf, lift and back fill with some of your chosen substrate, or cover the area and add more seed
