"Usually you'll get spotted and it all devolves into chaos"
So like the movies then. Nice
Yeah bro it's so funny because when shit hits the fan it feels like something that would happen in the movies.
Agreed, glad it is different from Uncharted/Tomb Raider kind of games, love first person also, but yeah I understand why some have issues with it, just as I do with only 3rd person games.
Actually, this kinda reminds me of Finnish Cottage Simulator, where you are non-ninja in first person but can find a gun when drunk 😆
"I'm just making this up as I go!" -Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark
Same developer as wolfenstein you say?
"it's simple, but it's smart, it doesn't overdo anything and it tells a damn good story"
That sounds like Indy to me.
I thought the game was trash tbf - it's unfinished. Just look at the weird fucking shadows
It feels indie lol
But not 3rd person, like the films, and no music. But above all, it's a very old-fashioned and janky game. No humour either.
@@LeeGion_981 not enjoying fatal bugs is taste? What about it being a bad FPS, worse than most FPSs in the last 2 decades, and not being an open world 3rd person, with vehicles? You people have no taste, so that's why they fed us this. I suppose you think this game is open world, don't you? It's padded by barriers everywhere. And where's your taste for the music of John Williams? You know who he even is? Go and play GTAV, on a 360 even - light years beyond this, in 2013.
@ just not true though is it. What do you mean there is no music? The music is very much John Williams inspired. I never had fatal bugs. Also I wouldn’t call it an FPS because it’s really not about the shooting, I rarely used guns. There are vehicles in the game, you hey around by boat on the Thailand level.
Why is nobody talking about how bizarrely close Troy Baker sound like Harrison Ford in the movies????
because he's a voice actor and it's his job to make it sound good
Don't listen to the haters. Troy Baker's work is amazing!!!! Doesn't matter if it's somebody's job to do something they still have to do it well. Troy absolutely killed this performance!!!!!

That's exactly how I felt yesterday playing Ghost Of Tsushima
Remember, those comparing this game to Uncharted or Tomb Raider, or criticizing the gameplay, likely haven't seen the original movies. Indiana Jones never had the extreme movements of Drake or Lara, and the action sequences in the films aren't as over-the-top as those games. MachineGames and Bethesda are staying true to the character and world.
Yeah it'd be really weird for Indy to be climbing up cliffs like he's Magnus Midtbo. That's the worst part of those Uncharted games, they characters are just stupidly good at climbing.
A solid point. From what I've seen in this video, it has the look and feel of a Lucas/Spielberg flick. Indy has always been more Pulpy than sexy/cool.
The fuck you even saying
Most of the action was just indie running away 😂
@@ianbent0nthey make it make sense in 4 when they break out of an orphanage as kids , still tho i kinda agree with you , the climbing is just a gaming gimmick for adventure games IMO
The most refreshing part of this review is that weve got a complete game to play on day one!
Not the usual buggy mess that will hopefully get better after multiple updates and fixes.
It sucks that this is now something that is a "feature" as opposed to a requirement!
As a completionist who 100%'d this game I can assure you it's quite buggy. From some slightly annoying things like misplaced item icons on the map, some odd animation transitions, clipping, to very annoying like that looped fire sound that gets repeated anywhere you go even after rebooting the console if you return to one specific location to get all notes.
There's something funny about these guys with guns on their back just deciding to square up and throw hands with Indy
Well, if you're close enough, it's definitely a lot quicker
But I completely get what you're saying
I know the combat looks terrible
@@jamesfrederick. That’s what they do in the movies though…
Shh, it's a return to form!
"They undersold it a bit"
Maybe more developers should do this. Instead of overselling and hyping up and then disappointing, less promising and then overdeliviering.
To be fair, that's the "marketers" who have no idea nor connection to the product. They sell themselves to sell the product with their same old formula. They get paid regardless of how many people buy the product.
We need to return to smaller productions with more passionate people.
@@m1chi13l maybe don't get so over excited about them to begin with. Stop watching trailers, and analysers of trailers. It's hilarious how many 30min long videos there are for 15 second teasers. And stop preordering
They should fire all the marketing departments, honestly. But people still bite, so they won't. We as consumers need to learn to completely ignore pre-launch marketing, especially but not exclusively the one from big media (IGN, Metacritic...).

Heavy Undersell with this one , it made me feel like a kid again , sparked that adventure i didn`t feel in a long long time and i`m only 35 , how fking sad is that.
how? the game play just looks so weak.. like it was designed with 8-11 year olds as the prime audience, id say even a 10 or 11 year old who is used to call of duty at this point would be bored with this.. i couldnt believe that youre not spotted from 15feet in broad daylight.. or you can come face to face with an enemy in a tiny tiny room but as long as you dont stare them in the face for over 5 seconds then they dont see you? smashing their friends head in 4 feet away and they dont hear it.. machine guns but theyll one by one test their might against you with a wooden club.. and the two puzzles he showed just looked so lazy.. there were better puzzles in skyrim and that wasnt even a puzzle game
just finished Allan wake 2, that has a similar single player easy on the combat vibe and it was one of the better games ive played in the last 5 years, the graphics are possible the best on the market right now too.. but the combats better more involved and makes real sense, the game genuinely makes you tense and a little on edge at moments, the puzzles/detective aspects are genuinely rewarding to complete i was stumped a couple times and took the 20 minutes to figure it out rather than running to google.. then the story is engaging and the perfect length any longer would be too much and any shorter just wouldnt be quite as good.. not to mention its at this moment 1/3rd the price

Yes. I looked it up after playing an hour and was shocked it's not Harrison Ford. Sounds exactly like him.
I'm not an Indy fan, but I can recognize that it's far closer to the vibes of the original movies than I would expect from a modern game. It was risky to fund this project today, for sure, and I hope Indy fans enjoy and Bethesda gets enough out of this to publish more solid, 2000s era type single player games with no strings attached. Watched a stream of this yesterday and it was a blast. Also, props to them for not completely avoiding use of the swastika like everyone would expect today.
Not to argue with you or anything, but since it’s the same company that made Wolfenstein I doubt they would have a hard time using a swastika lol

The only flaw is that I have to sell my fedora to buy a GPU that can run this game. Raytracing as a requirement is kind of crazy.
It’s the emerging graphical standard, unfortunately. The two major consoles now have upscaling to 4K and are both built in with ray tracing, so that hardware ray tracing is gonna be a standard requirement going forward. I know a lot of folks are pissed about it, but if you’re still playing on your old 1080 ti, it’s time to upgrade to at least a 3000 series card, or 7000 series for AMD cards.
Trust me, this game benefits so much from the increased processing and graphics power. The environments in this game are gorgeous and ornately textured, and looks damn near lifelike when rendered in 4K with the built in Ray tracing.
I didn't realize it was a requirement until I tried launching it and it wouldn't. Thankfully, I am able to use GeForce Now to play it and it's running pretty well. Better than not playing it at all at least
The 10 series GPU's are 8 years old at this point and the Radeon 5000 series are 5 years old, going on 6 years. it's not like when the GTS 6800 was released then 2 years later was obsolete. It's probably time for an upgrade. Good news is though Intel has released a $250 RT capable card with 12GB of VRAM and this game runs fine on my 8GB 2800 Super which is a first gen RT card at 1440p native and all settings maxed except textures, so an insanely powerful GPU is not a requirement.
My 6800XT runs it like a champ at the highest setting with 90+ fps. The game is optimized Mike crazy

5:50 The enemies seem strangely reluctant to use their guns. Does this change on higher difficulty levels?
Yes it is, the difficulty is very costumizable and the more you use your gun the more the enemy will use they.
The AI doesnt usually start out with using their guns, especially if they outnumber you, but if you manage to knock a couple out then you will definitely start getting shot at.
That honestly sounds much more realistic to me as the first reaction to normal people is not to just shoot someone immediately unless you are a total psychopath and it also makes the AI encounters far more manageable.
@@Lornext Indeed, the normal reaction of a Wehrmacht/SS soldier to a perimeter intruder is to engage him in hand-to-hand combat
No shooting at all
It’s really about matching what you do. If you stick to fists and melee weapons, the enemies usually do the same. If you pull out your gun or pick one up, enemies will be more apt to draw pistols or grab MP-34s off a rack.
Guns are effective in the game, can take out a lot of guys fast, especially the bolt action rifles (Carcano and Kar98k) as well as the shotgun (Winchester ‘97) where the pistols, like the Beretta M1934 and the Luger P08 usually aren’t worth the trouble they cause you. With the rifles and shotgun, you can melt through 6 or 7 enemies when you pick one up with a full mag, but you also have to be careful that you don’t get surrounded. Indy is squishy, and will die after a couple of bullets, so your gunfights have to be strategic and sparing.

I'm 30 mins in and right away I have to agree with Jake.. this game just FEELS good. As a casual gamer and not some tryhard who has to "master" Elden Ring, THIS is exactly what I want in a video game.
I thought the first person view was going to be annoying at first, but so far I'm diggin' it, and even the combat is straight forward as Jake says.
As someone who liked the Tomb Raider and Uncharted series of games, this is more than meeting my desire for exploration and even scratching that little "I secretly like history" and want to know more itch in my brain. Sure, the story is all made up, but like similar games there's some real knowledge and factual info behind some of this stuff. It's like when you're playing Uncharted 4.. sure, you KNOW there was no secret pirate settlement on a long lost and forgotten island somewhere where a bunch of pirates got together to pool their wealth and start their own "pirate democracy." It's a cool story and all, but that's all it is. However, all those pirates mentioned in that game really existed, some of their actual stories are referenced, and there ARE some real mysteries around them that people still haven't figured out, and probably never will.
It definitely comes off as a "sneaking" game lol. That's for sure. And the game doesn't hold your hand. For example, if you aren't smart enough to know you should sneak AROUND the guard walking around with the German Shepherd at his side, then that's on you. There's no pop-up that says, "hey.. you should probably AVOID the dog or heavily armed guards." The game explains JUST what it needs to about the buttons you have to know to do certain things, and that's about it. Most of it is intuitive. You aren't a superhero here with unlimited power. You're just a GUY (Indy) who's very knowledgeable, mostly fearless, and good with a whip lol. You can still get hurt and need bandages and food to recover.
The graphics on my XSX and the TV I'm currently on look good, as Jake says. I don't notice any issues. Even when you look at shadows in the ground they're clear and crisp. Ray tracing is nice and clean. On console, at least, no FPS issues at all. Whatever it runs at by default I'm enjoying it very much.
Also, not for nothing, but Troy Baker is KILLING IT as Indy. I swear.. you wouldn't even know it was Troy. God only knows how long he was practicing his young Harrison Ford voice before getting in to the studio lol. I was half expecting to hear a mix of Harrison Ford and Joel (from The Last of Us) 🤣.. but nope. He probably sounds like a better young Harrison Ford than Harrison Ford himself lol. Like, other than possible financial reasons maybe one reason they didn't hire Ford for the voice work is because they realized he doesn't sound enough like he did when played Indiana Jones in the 80's? 🤔 Either way.. Troy Baker earned EVERY penny he made from this. Honestly, he probably didn't get paid enough lol.
All in all, a SOLID 8/10 game. If you're a casual gamer looking for a fun time, this is it. For people who just "need" a challenge you CAN turn puzzle assist off and choose a "very hard" difficulty, which will make combat harder and guards (AI) way more alert and rush you harder.
I paid the $38 for the early upgrade and I'd say it was worth it. They did a great job here. But even if you don't want to pay for this game, AT LEAST give it a shot on Monday when the standard edition launches, which is free for anyone who has GamePass. If you have GamePass then you really have no excuse to NOT give this gem of a game a shot.
Also, side note.. if you're a fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark then you'll get a kick out of the intro. I won't spoil it, but it's a fun little wink that both sets up Indy for those who are new(er) to this character and for those craving a bit of nostalgia from their past.
Gameplay seems kinda dated but in an endearing way, I like the simplicity
Its funny that considering people keep complaining about how games are turning into and keep saying why aren’t games simplistic like they used to be
The most impressive thing to me when I watched this was the voice for Indy, really good, and the punch sound effects, sounded exactly like the movies!!
Lo compraste guey?
I have a feeling they did first person because they didn’t want it to seem like Uncharted. Even though Uncharted is basically Indiana Jones in itself.
Indiana Jones was not a homicidal maniac running around with a gun.
There are other much better ways to separate yourself from another franchise than limiting your combat gameplay in first person. There’s a reason why the camera often switches to a 3rd person perspective, it functions much better, frustrating that they limited themselves to 1st person
Game feels way more immersive than uncharted because of the first person. It has many experiences that would not feel the same if done in 3rd person.
I loved the movies, but never really had much time with the video games. I remember playing one of the saga games alittle bit, but I’ll excited to try this out. And I can appreciate that it’s coming to game pass so I don’t have to spend anything to try it.
I was surprised to see the blue shirt enemy pop up twice in one hallway at 6:50
Really glad to hear you had a good time, that usually means I will too. Cheers
The punches sound more like a whip more than the actual whip 😂😂
6:05 I feel like this is supposed to be them recognising indy doesn't belong there but they said "Saw anything?" "What is that" and "I heard something" so actually they just didn't realise he was there
An hour or so in and I am very glad this game didnt get the Uncharted treatment. This is something much more immersive and impressive. It feels like you are in the films
I wish these games allowed you to play 3rd person as well as 1st person.
this game has a mix of both
go play with action figures
@MortezaFC lmao
Growing up with the character all these years to see him and Harrison Ford done well is something we thought we'd never see in a videogame, great work M.G.
Oh look an intruder! Let me not use my gun and get into a fist fight even though he just used a gun.
Why aren't enemies with guns ... using the guns?
Enemies that have guns do use them though. I’ve been killed with one or two shots.
He has a 2 day head start he knows the language, all the Costoms . He’ll blend in. With any luck he’s got the grail already.
👍👍👍👍 ill will be getting this on the ps5
I can’t believe people are shitting on this game, it’s one of the best of the year.
People have different opinions 😮
The last Indiana Jones game i played was on the Master System. Can't wait to try this one out.
We should start distinguishing between Classic AI and True AI.
His punches literally sound like gunshots😂
Harrison Ford won't live forever? I thought you said no spoilers😩
Gave this one a pre good glazing there jake…and I had to scroll pretty far to find a remotely negative comment, this is all fishy af. I come on lol, there wasn’t one negative comment in like the top 25 comments? In today’s day and age? You ain’t fooling me…
If this is the closet thing we're ever gonna get to another Dishonored, I'll take it.
Look at all the damn bots trying to push some crypto 💀
