    Heat shrink tubing is great for getting rid of the spring noise. Put it over the spring and heat it till it touches the spring so it can still move freely through it. Just don't let it shrink and grip too much or it'll affect the return to pitch.

    VOLA guitars are the most precisely made guitars I have ever encountered. If your lucky enough to put your hands around on one, like I did at a local SoCal’ dealer, Downey Music, you will always gage other guitars by VOLA standards. Thx KDH for spreading the VOLA ❤

    @kdh i use paper towels for my springs too! I fold 1 full sheet like 3 times to make a rectangle shape ,then tape around all 4 sides of the paper rectangle. Almost looks like a maxi pad.I just lay it over the springs the pt the cover back on. The paper rectangle is firm enough so the springs dont bite into the paper.

    I’m friends with a local shop that was a dealer for these guitars (he’s also a dealer for Tyler) and he had nothing but praise after praise for them even at the $2k+ price point, but they didn’t sell well and I think it was the cost vs the unknown name. Now that they are direct and so much cheaper to compete with guitars like the Ibanez Prestige line, they are even more amazing.

    Unfortunately they only do 12" radius on literally all their guitars. Its so hard to find anything above 14" except Jackson with the compound up to 16" radius, and the Periphery sig at 20". So weird that so few companies do a flatter radius, which allows for lower action for lighter touch playing, you will find 20" on the Allan Holdsworth models which makes sense if you listen to his playing, as well as Shawn Lane's Vigier siganture model. Would be nice to see more companies offer this feature as I think it would make a massive difference compared to all the tiny differences between each companies guitars these days.

    I have a Strat that has the Yosemite set in it. Has the Greasebucket mod on the tone knob... best part is how the tone knob pops up to put the bridge in with the neck pup. Favorite sound it has.

  • @picksalot1
    @picksalot1 Год назад +1

    Cool looking guitar and design. The reverse angle middle and bridge pickups should produce brighter bass and warmer treble tones. And the reverse headstock should reduce floppy bass strings, and make the treble strings feel more slinky because string tension is related to string length (saddles to tuners).

  • @barretprivateer8768
    @barretprivateer8768 Год назад +1

    Interesting, whenever i have a strat I typically delete the middle pickup and wire it with a 3 way switch because i pretty much use the neck + bridge sound exclusively with singles.
    Btw FGN guitars are Japanese and compete with this company for price and specs but theyre rarely exported outside Japan.

  • @MashaT22
    @MashaT22 Год назад +1

    It’s like totally unheard of to lower prices in this day and age. Going direct helps, of course. It also has some downsides. For instance, where most small shops usually throw in a free setup (and often free new strings of your choice), now you’re stuck paying for it after it gets shipped to your home (which also means lugging it to a shop and taking the time to do so) or doing the setup yourself at home (if you know how and have the time). That’s like another hundred bucks for a pro setup (using Sweetwater’s pricing - might be more or less depending where you live depending on the shop, and no, SW won’t throw in free strings with that) slapped onto that price.
    It’s still a phenomenal deal, but it is an added time/money cost that still needs to be factored in. I think most people would be thrilled with that trade off when you see how much they were able to drop the prices.
    I have worried for a long time now that the big companies are going to cut off shops to make a similar move - but instead of cutting the final price, they would keep more profit margins for themselves. I hope this isn’t the wave of the future. It would be horrible if small shops are put out of business. Indie music shops are really needed in our world.

    • @RomainG6409
      @RomainG6409 Год назад

      You don't need to go to any shop as to do any settings with these guitars ... you take them out of the box and play ... and 100 box for a "setting" (basically doing not much on that kind of guitar) and changing strings ? I would not go to a shop that ask that amount of money quite frankly ...

    The resale value thing is among the silliest reasons for buying or not buying a guitar -- or anything. When you base the purchase of anything on what you can resell it for you are, in essence, allowing others (who're complete strangers to you) to control your purchase(s). Why would you do that? Beats me, but may do.

    What I've learned over the decades is that it's well worth looking at second hand guitars before you even think of buying one brand new. Everyone's different, of course, and I don't mean the 'vintage' market when I say second hand - just previously owned guitars that play and sound good. Having said that...this guitar seems like it's excellent value for money. If I were in the market for a new one I'd consider this brand. Your reviews are always honest and informative.

      As long as you can see and hold it in advance then a used guitar is a great option. I would however personally refrain from buying a used guitar online personally. Beautiful guitar! With seriously nice specs.
    For Japanese build under 1000 USB, but admittedly without the locking tuners, roasted necks, nor Lumilay dot markers, oh... and no flame maple cap there is the Ibanez Genesis RG550 which retails for 1000 USD. Definitely an '80s icon, but it has arguably the best version of a Floyd Rose ever. [Ibanez's EDGE tremolo].
    Also, the FGN guitars are made in the same Fuji Gen factory as Ibanez, but less expensive as it's their 'house' brand and is I guess, more of a "factory-direct" pricing ability. [just a guess]. Some of their's are in the 800 USD range.

    It’s a COIL SPLIT! Not coil tap. Coil tap is when manufactures wind a pickup and will take signal from let’s say at about half the windings and then finish the pickup. Hence the tap. This way you have a connection to use the pickup with less output. Most of the time this is done on single coils.

      I get to keep it. If I’m sent a guitar just for the review and to be sent back I will also explicitly state that. (Example Emerald guitar review)

    placement of the lower strap nut is not so great, due to that recessed body shape...but if you gig, you should be able to afford or already have a strap lock...although I usually use a single set on two guitars..near the neck...I don't like the strat shape, but, preference.

    Considering an American Pro Series II Fender will sting you c. £1500-1600 these are a pretty good deal - especially since Fender's quality control is not exactly legendary. I take it no one is stocking these in the U.K. Bit of a leap of faith to buy one from Hong Kong without ever holding one and to trust quality control is bang on and the shipping done right...

    Wait what? A guitar brand just got cheaper? Can't be!
    But i just looked at the website, these prices are totally reasonable if the guitar is as good as you say.

    The Ibanez rg550 is made in japan for $1000. Seems like a very different type of guitar though, with this one definitely having the advantage spec wise.

    I really like the design and the price point. My only issue is the unnecessary pick guard. Why in gods name are people still putting pick guards on guitars. This isn't the 50s and people don't stand on a street corner strumming one cord all day. Is someone wants to fit one it's fairly easy, but for the vast majority of players that take the things off ASAP, it just leaves unnecessary holes in the body.

    Not to sound like a nitpicker or whatever but its coil splits and not coil taps
    Splits split the two sides of a humbucker to give you a single coil type sound
    Whereas a coil tap will just reduce the output of whatever pickup its on by taking a signal from lower in the windsof copper

      How can you be confident it's not a coil tap? Many pickups nowadays implement split as a tap you won't know that unless you disassemble the pickup.

    • @boshi9
      @boshi9 Год назад

      @@shocko77 No, that's not how tap is typically implemented in dual coil pickups. You tap only one coil, letting the other dominate the signal. This makes the pickup sound more like a single coil, but the volume drop is less dramatic compared to a true split. Lots of manufacturers do this while still calling it "split coil", for example all PRS humbuckers. This is why you won't know unless you take a look under the hood.
