    This week I discovered that Johann Joachim Quantz is my great-great-great uncle. His brother, my direct ancestor Johann Henrich Quantz migrated somehow to the Netherlands. He had quite a different life as an innkeeper in a very poor region. I suppose the brothers never met again. Anyhow I now have found the pleasure of enjoying the music of Johann Joachim Quantz.

      interesting, but you probably did not mean great-great-great-uncle since that would be 320 years for four generations?

      Hello cousin!
      Quantz is my (7x) great granduncle, too.
      I‘m a descendant of his eldest brother Jost Matthias, born 1686.
      I don‘t have any information about marriage and children of his youngest brother Joh. Hinrich.

      He is so refined!. Funny, how we can discover relations. Through "My Heritage", I found out, that I am 10,3% east european. I allways thought of myself as 100% danish, even though my great-great grandfather came from Germany i 1818. I discovered, that Sergei Rachmaninov is a distant cousin 3 generations away. Great! Prokofiev is a little closer.

    • @voraciousreader3341
      @voraciousreader3341 Год назад

      People click the ‘thumbs down’ button because they don’t like what they’re hearing….that should be quite obvious! And the device is available because we are _ allowed_ to dislike things! This may come as a shock, but not everybody has to like what you do! And, for these particular works, I will bet they don’t like the unvarying sameness of the tone of the Baroque flute, an opinion which I can understand. As a flutist myself, I can admire the virtuosity of those playing Baroque flutes, but their tone and volume cannot be changed much, not can it be easily heard over the much louder chamber instruments. They should have microphones near them!

      I suspect the problem is that Quantz wrote so much - over 300 flute concerti. I doubt they are all as good as these ones but people probably think they are all much of a muchness - I am huge fan of Vivaldi and Haydn and people say the same about them.
      If this is anything to go by, we have much to discover!

    L'ensemble Les Buffardins est un orchestre belge de musique baroque et classique, fondé et dirigé par le flûtiste Frank Theuns, adepte de l'interprétation historiquement informée, soit l'interprétation sur instruments anciens (ou copies d'instruments anciens).
    Historique
    L'orchestre Les Buffardins a été fondé en 2007 par Frank Theuns en regroupant des amis musiciens qui ont appris leur métier auprès des pionniers de la musique ancienne en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas, comme les frères Kuijken, Anner Bylsma ou Gustav Leonhardt.
    L'ensemble est nommé d'après le flûtiste français Pierre-Gabriel Buffardin, qui fut actif à Dresde comme professeur de Johann Joachim Quantz

    Yes, Quantz membered among the inner circle of Frederick II. However, as one perceptive listener has observed, below, he commanded an Italianate elegance and restraint of style which rebellious CPE Bach abandoned. In that important respect, Q was closer to C. H. Graun and J. A. Hasse, whose musical roots were solidly Baroque. Quantz also eschewed the more Viennese-Classical stylist tropes of a Benda -- especially as regards "storm and stress". Much tho I respect Benda's concerto in e, for example, I find it more pre-Classical -- and, at times, unconvincingly self-dramatizing.
    A pity it is, in some regards, that Q never parlayed his utterly-superb musical ideation into sinfonias -- or even cantatas. He could have rewritten musical history, had he so done. This series of performances, I finally add, does the music real justice. Exquisite: Refinement can be profound, too!

    • @voraciousreader3341

      Mostly because the Baroque composers did it so much better than imitators ever could, and because there’s so much music like this which has already been composed. You can listen to concertos for different instruments all day, every day, for weeks and weeks, by composers like J.S. Bach and his sons, Quantz, Vivaldi, Telemann, Handel, Gabrieli, Byrd, and many more!

      Axel De Schrijver that’s why RUclips puts ads on these videos. The revenue goes to the performers.

      Thanks Axel. In fact, I often do. RUclips provides a great way to preview an album. But you're right, I'm amazed at the number of classical albums being posted on RUclips. I'm really surprised that the labels permit it. On the other hand, they do persuade classical music enthusiasts like me to purchase the CDs. And no, the ad revenues do not go to the performers. That's utter bunk.

    While I love these concerti, and am in amazement over the flutist’s virtuosity, I still prefer the modern flute because the tone and dynamics can be varied so much more easily than the Baroque flute. Just my preference, from experience.

      I think both along with composers like Benda and Graun write in a similar style all from northern Germany around Berlin.

    • @elaineblackhurst1509
      @elaineblackhurst1509 3 года назад +4

      Rik77 You are quite right; it’s a North German empfindsamer Stil but in Quantz’s case with something of an Italian accent as you will find in Benda and Graun as well, but not really in CPE Bach.
