    A very clever way to draw a large radius arc. I'm playing about with making parabolic dishes, to experiment with parabolic microphones, and this technique will be perfect to let me make cardboard 'ribs' to create a tidy, uniform parabolic dish with the focal point just where I want it to be. Many thanks for the video!

    Will bring two giant pieces of wood to my geometry test, thanks!

    Great tip! I'm not a woodworker but I was searching for something like this to make a grid for perspective drawing, thank you!

    I love woodworking, have a pretty decent shop that I NEVER get to use due to work.... I stumbled on this while trying to prototype a part for use in the aviation industry... this really saved me... thankyou.

    Thanks for a great tip, Scott! I've struggled in the past with large radii.

    Good stuff Scott. I have used the cord positioning math for many years as a machinist and now making segment bowls. Keep on smiling.

      Sorry you watched this then. This shows you how to draw an arc, and ignores the radius entirely.

    Thanks so much. I've been trying to mark out for bending forms for the curved top for homemade fence panels which I've messed up with uneven bends over and over again. Just tried this and have the perfect curve to make from from. Cheers!

    Great method Scott Thanks for sharing. I was wondering about your shaper edge trimmer setup. Can you provide any info about the bit and where you got it. Thanks

    • @imaginegrove
      @imaginegrove  Год назад

      sure, I get my shaper cutters from cggschmidt.com/ The cutters are obviously straight (replaceable) on a corrugated hold with flush bearing. Give them a call and they hook you up. I use this all the time.

    Holy cow, I think this is the idea I've been looking for! I have several different large, radiuses in laying out my driveway. I was able to do some with a steak and a string, but when I have trees and landscape and buildings in the way, I had no idea how to make the other ones. I think I can use your same method working with large 10 foot two by fours instead of the smaller boards you were using on your desktop. Does this method still apply for large driveway radius? Will that still work on a larger scale?

    • @imaginegrove
      @imaginegrove  Год назад

      yes, any size, the geometry scales up. You might need help holding everything while you draw the arc, but it will work.

    How did you get your cord length and height?

    • @imaginegrove
      @imaginegrove  3 года назад

      that was on my drawings. Typically this is easier to find than a radius

    What if the distance between the 2 bottom nails is 42' (thats what I have on my project)

    • @imaginegrove
      @imaginegrove  3 года назад

      yes and the boards would be 84, actually I make them a bit longer
