Holy holy shit! Saw this the night it aired. I was 12 sleeping over at my friend Eugene's house. This was a batshit insane show. Remember the next week when Melanie Chartoff said it would never air again. Plasmatics were on one episode with a guitarist wearing a tutu and Wendy O Williams sawed a guitar in half. Guy used to play with army men. Andy Kaufman got into a fight and they went to commercial. Didn't know about serious drugs, but looking back, this was cocaine fueled excellence. Over 43 years ago. I'm sending this link to a bunch of people. This skit just popped into what's left of my head. I've discussed it with people and nobody ever remembered it. That summer got drunk for the first time, tasted 🐈 for the first time, smoked pot for the first time. Memories. The foot was great. Think I'll listen to some Cars albums and look up vintage photos of Melanie.
So glad to see this on youtube! I used to watch this show while in Highschool (and was exposed to good music by watching it, King Crimson, Clash, Pretenders, the wonderfully over the top Plasmatics, etc), but this skit in particular struck a joyous chord in my horror loving heart, so fun to see it again, and amazed at the ruckus it caused at the time (I had no idea).
@@andrewfischer8564 exactly i find it to ironic that this skit was one of the reasons why Fridays got cancelled now everybody and their momma wants to make some kind of zombie movie or series
@@mrquenyaTimes were different. If they did this today, it'd be a hit. They did this in the early 1980s, when people were pushing for TV to be cleaner and less debauched. That's why people said that SNL's sixth season was tasteless and offensive (even though I feel it was boring, flat, and obviously written by someone whose sense of humor was surgically removed).
This was only shown once and then it was banned.I missed this episode but I remember all the guys at school talking about it.This was the first time I got to see it.
Yeah. This show is at least a worthy adversary to Saturday Night Live (if only because SNL's quality was in the toilet at that time, though SCTV kicks both Fridays' and early 1980s SNL's butts, even if it was around the time John Candy and Catherine O'Hara temporarily left). And it does suck that some ABC affiliates banned the show because of this.
Lol this is crazy the women is like “I’m leaving!” But the man wants to stay and then the guy in the kitchen was actually the best part it looks so good to put in a horror film Uwu😂😂😂
ABC decided that an extra day of Nightline was better than a competing show to Saturday Night Live. That's why they canned it. It's a shame. And I kind of understand why this would be banned back then, but today, it would probably air on SNL (or an SNL-type sketch show on a streaming service) no problem. Or maybe MADtv if that were still on (it's not, but you know what I'm trying to say).
As a teen, I thought they were being gross just for the sake of being gross, but now I realize it was a sendup of the horror movies of George A. Romero
The skit was inventive and, obviously, daring. Even at first , rather amusing. But for me, it stopped being funny when, after the guy and his date order, they show the man in the kitchen screaming, knowing that he will be the main course. And for anyone who thinks the affiliates and sponsors pulling out when it aired in 1980 was a prudish move, don't tell me that if SNL did the routine --even in this calendar year-- that you wouldn't find it the least bit off-putting.
What's off-putting about it? It's a Horror -Comedy skit... Nobody was actually harmed. When the hammy murder of nonexistent people starts putting you off ... It's time to start worrying.
The Black Zombie is my Dad Actor Wil Garret. I miss him. Thanks for this.

Fridays was clever...I thought things were looking up .. canceled too soon
May 1, 1980. I know the exact date because I was in the hospital, in labor and I watched this episode lol
Check out the menus on the wall.
Diner of the living dead. Classic.
I remeber Melanie Chartoff going on the air to apologize for that sketch, the week after it aired.
Fridays was one damn crazy show.
now zombies are all over tv and movies

They guy in the overall and the plaid shirt reminds me of Big Daddy from Land of the dead.
Never saw this before, great skit
It really pissed me off when they dropped this show. The cast was better then SNL.

@@canaisyoung3601 Was this the sketch that caused the ABC affiliates to drop them?
Perfect thing to watch around Halloween!
Every day is Halloween 👻 🎃 (Al Jourgensen)
Check out the Men Who Hug sketch with Mark Hammel. Thank God Fridays lives on through You Tube!!!
Looks like a Dennys I went to in Kalamazoo once!
Haven't seen that since it first aired. I mostly remember the guy in the door window as "dinner" is prepared. Funny stuff.
Yeah, but this sketch was made over twenty years before Land of The Dead
This, and a sketch called "Women Who Spit" were among reasons why several ABC affiliates stopped carrying "Fridays."
Also a sketch where a priest (Mark Blankfield) orders an inflatable sex doll that looks like a nun (these days, that would be an altar boy).
The guy right across from them is Blackie Damnit.Anthony Keidis's father.
FANTASTIC JOB!!!!
@2:12 "..eighty SIX on the Spleen Piiiiiiie..."
The waitress, heyyy, isn't that Amy Winehouse?

Fried face, elbow stew, spinal juice, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Awesome hilarious show! Should've stayed! Why was this cancelled? It was a perfect follow-up to SNL.

$4.89? Damn, food was cheap!
Leg of leg! Belly burger! Fried ear and Fried Face! Elbow Stew...great menu.
Like Misfits said..This is a Ghouls Night out! haha
I am no longer hungry
Surprised they made it out alive.
I am hungry uh uh BRAINS!!!
Rest In Peace George Romero
This is just too silly to be offensive.
Brilliant! I can't believe that some ABC affiliates were so wussified that they actually stopped airing Fridays because of this!
The 1980s was more uptight about content than now, if you can believe it.
@@canaisyoung3601 yeah, now we have to see Black and Gay only content!

@Dachshund Did they cancel it, because they prefer ladies who swallow? XD
That was so horrifying that multiple ABC affiliates stopped airing this? Wow, humanity was even more pathetic in the past.
Where and when did this air?
What's the matter with this sketch? Doesn't seem too gory. It's not funny and drags on for too long, as almost all Fridays sketches, but not that bad.
It was 40 YEARS AGO. America wasn't completely morally decayed yet.
