    This should be the standard for all businesses. The transparency and honesty is one of the many reasons i am so happy to be a customer

  • @itsKJok
    @itsKJok 26 дней назад +159

    Have you considered selling it at a discount to recover some costs? Some people here might be able to try something that is close, but can't afford the full cost. I know I had to wait a while before I could start my subscription, and would have tried a "next best thing" long before I got my first box.

    • @AlvinKazu
      @AlvinKazu 26 дней назад +25

      I agree with this. Label it as "seconds," "2nd grade" or something (not sure what they would call it in the tea world).
      If it's not bad, but not up to par, it should still be sellable.
      I can see Jesse only wanting to sell the best, but if he has the stock and it's not bad, then it shouldn't be a big deal if people know it isn't "top shelf."

    • @itsKJok
      @itsKJok 26 дней назад +9

      @@AlvinKazu I totally get keeping up standards. This just feels like a one off and I know how things, like this, can hit small companies. I like the idea of "Seconds"

      I hope Jesse considers this!

    • @emmabemmaboo
      @emmabemmaboo 24 дня назад +4

      I believe the downside of this is it would be seen as endorsing the shady action of adding the second crop. In dropping the second crop all together and taking the loss, it conveys they need to do better or they'll be dropped.
      For a company that boasts good quality goods, accepting and selling less than good quality goods can cause issues for the long term even if the initial problem doesn't last long.
      This is at least how I'm reasoning it as I'm not a business owner

    • @AlvinKazu
      @AlvinKazu 24 дня назад +3

      @@emmabemmaboo Well, as a business owner, you don't want to lose money in any way, but at the same time you don't want to ruin your reputation by selling inferior goods as superior.
      That is why having the item labeled as a non-top shelf item would allow him to still sell the tea, but people shouldn't expect it to be as the first batch was.
      IT seems the tea is still good, just not the same as it was before. So as long as NOTHING IS WRONG with it, there is no reason NOT to sell it. It just cannot be labeled the same as the other stuff, then people will complain/question it.
      When I go to farms they have Firsts and Seconds, Seconds are less `visually appealing fruits, etc.
      The tea farm was most likely notified and I would think that they would change their ways, but Jesse selling it or not doesn't affect how the farm does things.
      Jesse not buying from them would be an issue, but i'm not sure if Jesse gets from multiple farms or what.

      that tea is really good! Also we only had a few issues out of hundreds of bags, and the second crop isn’t crappy tea, but it is not what people may think they’re getting if they had it before and that’s the issue. But it’s not bad tea at all

      I was thinking about it, and in my situation, this is probably the perfect move. If I had ordered this tea, as a pretty new customer, and had thought it fell short of how I remember it, it might have been enough for me to look elsewhere in the future.
      Instead, I find this transparency and commitment to the brand impressive and expect to be a customer for long enough to put a reasonable dent in those losses.

    I don't know what your profit margin is on this tea, but if you listed it as a low quality grade tea of the flavor and put it at the price that would make you break even or have a much lower profit margin I wouldn't mind buying it. Of course as a quality tea seller that doesn't exactly match the brand, but if you have a huge amount of this tea in inventory it is an option

    Unfortunately, shipping to germany is at the moment too expensive for me to order from your website, so I am not personally affected, but I have two things I want to say:
    1. It is great, that you are so transparent with this issue.
    2. About not selling it: Wouldn't it be possible, to have it listed with a disclaimer, that it is not the normal one, and sell it with a discount? If it is still quite solid, that seems like a win-win situation: People can get a solid tea quite cheap, but you don't lose the investment completely and you don't have to discard so much good tea.

      From what it sounds like it wasn't a mixed batch, but the first crop was harvested and finished, and then they harvested a second batch of the leaves, that wasn't as good as the first batch. Either from the same plants, or a different set of plants.
      So it's the same type of plant/tea, but just different plants or something.
