I am a polio survivor. I have been confined to a wheelchair for over 12 years. I am on oxygen through a tracheostomy tube. I clean our house, do laundry, and cook meals. I have found ways to do most tasks. Anything up high i need help with. But i do ok. I have a sister in law healthy who can not clean her house. But me in a wheelchair can. Thank you for sharing what you do. It makes me proud that we can live independently.
Tysm for making this video! While I'm not in a wheelchair, I have a few different pain disorders, asw as POTS, and ADHD so seeing the different products you use to reach around to clean asw as how long each section took has helped a lot in giving me an idea on how I can make my cleaning work for me!
This just what I was looking for, I am in a wheelchair and need to learn to clean my house. I can see I need to rearrange some furniture. I am also going to make bathroom doorway wider and add on to laundry room. What a great help you have been to me.
I’m able-bodied and am honestly scoring so many productivity and cleaning tips from this video. Thanks! I love your content and feel like I’m learning so much about life from a wheelchair. My SIL is disabled and struggles with mobility; I appreciate the information and tips to help me be more supportive for her!
Also, approximately how tall are you in your chair? I’m pretty short (about 5’) and some of the tips you shared are great for short people too. I might get a reacher to help me get stuff out of the washer so I don’t almost fall in! 😅
Girl. I legit have like 6 baskets of unfolded clean laundry in my room right now. I’d like to blame it on the kids, but honestly laundry is just the bane of my existence. I watched you go through the process of getting your laundry up and down from the basement and folding it and got so inspired I did three loads. 😂 I know that you are making a difference in many, much more impactful ways but just know that tonight I have an abundance of clean underwear for the first time in a while thanks to you! 😆
I just broke my femur 4 weeks ago. Spending a lot of time in the wheelchair. It’s a learning experience. Thank you so much for this video. I have the ultimate respect for you. ❤❤❤❤
This was SOOOOOO helpful! Not only is it reassuring to see some of the tricks I've been using in use by someone else, but I learned so much about how to do some of the tasks I've been hesitant to try! Thank you for posting this!!!!
I’m glad I watched this video. The other day I was searching online for something with a long handle so I can wash my kitchen cabinets myself and that scotch brite thing seems to work good for you. Maybe I’ll see if my superstore has that. Thanks 😊👍
A lightweight, cordless vacuum makes life MUCH easier. Great tip with the bed placement. My house is SMALL and no matter where I put the bed...it's against the wall and what a pain. If anyone has tips for changing sheets on a bed against the wall when you are in a chair...PLEASE TELL ME! Are those scotch brites (you were using in the bathroom) like a swiffer duster on a long extendable pole? I do the same as you with garbage cans...have extra bags in the bottom.
It’s no doubt mundane but curiously fun and interesting to watch how you can do all these things in a wheelchair. I appreciate you sharing all of this with us.
Loved this video. It's very cool to see you do things that a lot people with disabilities wouldn't even know where to start and would be too nervous to even try. Not too mention any names but I may be one of those people. I have a very good personal support worker who does a super job at keeping my place clean and tidy while I am busy in the bathroom with my toileting routine. However I think I'm going to see if I can attempt to do some of the cleaning on my own. With the right tools and supplies to you make it look so much easier than I ever thought and quite interesting actually. Thanks for opening my eyes to some new stuff.
I'll tell ya what the first time I used a corded hardfloor washer and a shark vacuum I was sore for many days afterwards. It no joke how much more difficult it is now. Thought I would have an issue moving the recliner and coffee tables around, nope 4 wheels with power behind them and it's super easy. The big coffee table was challenging, but a wheelie puts my footplate on the bottom shelf and I just push it around where I want it to go. Pulling is however not easy.
lol pulling suck! It's actually amazing how much we can push with our wheelchair. I think a stubborn attitude helps get things done haha. Vacuuming is difficult a workout in a wheelchair, but I count that as my exercise on those days so it's a win win lol!
Omg lady 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😘 I am laying on my fat ass staring at my vacuum for three damn days. Dog hair etc; look at you go !!! Your hubby got one great wife 😂❤❤❤
that is exactly how I clean except that I find it more comfortable cleaning the bathtub while im taking a shower. I can reach better with a brush back and forth. Also, i use comet powder. I also use dyson to vacuum. Cordless is so much easier for a wheelchair user. Yea girlfriend, I dont know how you do it with a corded machine. I hate them.
I have 5 kids and hate washing showers and tubs. One of my most joyous days was when my teens started asking "Will you pay me if I clean the bathtub or something so I can earn more money?" Best money I've ever spent!
I Brit, you are wonder woman! I have to use wheelchair to move at home because my legs hurt so much that I can't even stand. But with or whitout wheelchair I can do no more than 1 h cleaning, otherwise my back or my legs will hurt so much and I could do nothing for two days....how can you manage to move furniture? Do you do gym training or something like this? Sometimes I really feel overwhelmed......thank you for sharing your experience!
I work out to maintain my strength. Honestly, though, my furniture is light and my floor are slippery because they're hardwood, so moving the furniture is easy!
I have severe cerebral palsy. Nonetheless, I would love to live on my own without relying on others for daily chores. This video provided me with lots of tips and tricks on cleaning Vacuuming or moping the floor is particularly hard for me since it involves carrying the vacuum cleaner or the mop around house while holding myself on my cane. Do you have any idea to make things a little easier? Thanks for sharing your daily challenges. Your are so inspiring. All the best ❤
I thought by now my wife would be back to cleaning all the bathrooms after her injury 18 months ago, but I’m still cleaning 2 of the 3 bathrooms. (SIGH) I always trust what you use because I know you use environmentally safe products and you do a ton of research in everything you do. The Mint Scrubbing is supposedly available at Pharmasave, but not at ours. Any suggestions where I can buy it?
You can order it online. I use baking soda a vinegar most of the time now! just put vinegar in a spray bottle, putt baking soda in sink and then array vinegar on it and scrub!
@@EmpoweredPara Thank you! I wasn’t expecting an answer so quick, so this is great! We’ve got 5 gallons of Vinegar in the back hall, so I’ll use that and baking soda.
And Big Day today (yes, I realize that my life is rather boring lol!)! My wife volunteered to now do 2 of our bathrooms again (her bathroom and the guest Powder Room). Now I’ve only got my bathroom to clean every 10 days to 2 weeks. Yay! My congrats to you that you can bend over so far without falling out of your chair. I still have trouble bending over to scrub the bottom of the tub and especially around the drain. My tummy muscles aren’t paralyzed, it is more of an issue with my vertigo, but IMHO, I think the end challenge is the same. Mind you, you have a lot more energy and drive than I do!
Brittney this has to be your best video i have seen WOW you are a super women i cant beleave you moving the furniture around when cleaning. you want to come and clean my house. lol
Hi, I just came across this video while looking for wheelchair accessible vans. I am 62 years old. I git polio at age 2 from polio vaccine. All my life, I got around waring braces and cruches . It has been a few years that due to overusing my arms, which has messed up my shoulders, I can't use my braces to walk. I am using an electric scooter around the house, which can extend in height. So that I don't abuse my shoulders fro. Constant overreach to cook a d clean. It has made my life so much easier. I wish someone had told me to take care of my shoulders when I was younger, so now I wouldn't be in much pain. So please pay attention to them. My scooter is a 3 wheel scooter that with a push of a button with rise 5 more inches which. Makes you almost as tall as a person standing. Therefore, it is much easier on your shoulders .let me know if you have any questions. I am going to follow you so I can get energy from you. Thanks for sharing your story with us
Really random question that you’ve probably answered a hundred times before but I just can’t find the answer for (and anyone feel free to chime in/give me suggestions of similar things): what cup holder do you use on your wheelchair??? I cannot for the life of me find anything like it in my own searching. 😂😭
My opinion would be to consider how you want to use the restroom. Also, take into account your discomfort and the maintenance required after your surgery. Do you want to be pulling it down and up like in underwear? Or would it be easier/better to open a side and move out of the way? Pull-ups are like underwear, but diapers, (usually called briefs for adults), have tabs on the side so that you can open and close them. Maybe start with one and then use the other after time goes by? Hope this helps some.
Where did you get your good reacher? I keep buying mine at the dollar store, and they are not very strong. Btw tried to buy those toilet seat pads, site would not let me check out.
Good Video, Would you like to learn spanish? You asked me in other video that would you like to learn how to say "Thanks for watching my video" in spanish is "Gracias por ver mi video"
My husband did it, but I've done it before with my reacher. I have the wrong hooks to be able to do it on my own. You need "S" hooks to be able to do it with a reacher. It's a pain in the butt though!

I've figured it out because I'm too cheap to pay for a maid lol! If you're a paraplegic you will be fine! If your a quad the cleaning might be tough!
@Empowered Para Right on. Nope, I'm a Para born with Spina Bifida here, so yeah I'm going to try some things around the house.
