You know that after the firmware update battery life improved 30% and now its....pretty decent already....so maybe you gotta revise your video.....also the change between modes has also reduces...so plz update the description because you misleading people not to buy an amazing camera and stick to the R5 which for video is nothing compared to R5C in terms of functionality and versatility

Hi! Thanks, you are correct it has much improved. This video was made a while ago, I have pinned your comment, so people can see this info more reliably. For my needs it I still prefer the R5 to R5C however as detailed in the video.

Great review. The R5C camera matching is in light room now. The biggest difference to me are the video tools, no ibis wobble and 10bit video in mp4 (non log). Canon could put all the features and fix the battery life in both cameras but they won’t. The 10sec delay switching from video to photo (think even coverage) and The autofocus speed is super frustrating coming from an R5.

I have an R5c. Did a lot of research on cameras before getting it. The battery life is an issue but the fact that it can run through usb to an external battery is a game changer. I shoot long videos anyways so having to switch out the battery an hr at a time isn’t ideal. My main issue with it is that it doesn’t have c log 2 which would have made it Netflix certified. (I’m guessing same reason why they intentionally didn’t put it in since the c70 is). Also maybe having a micro hdmi port is a little annoying but not a deal breaker.

Thanks for good honest review! I'm using an R6 right now as my fast turnaround camera as a complement to the RED komodo. But I don't like the codecs, inability to use external monitor AND OVERHEATING. So looking at switching to either R5 or R5C. So hard decisions... But this helps.

Gerald undone tests show that there is no 2 stops difference in dynamic range. R5C is max 0,5 stops better.

This is so helpful. I am currently on the 5D mk IV and looking into switching over to mirrorless. I do both photo and video with photo as my priority. My husband works with me on video and has the Canon C70. I found this video to hit some of the main points for me to consider. Thank you!

im between the Sony fx3 and the r5, as far as I know, the hit problems was solved with the new firmware, the recording limit of 30 can be solved easily with the external monitor, the battery life is better than r5c, but the wobble in video push me back, is there a easy solution?

I have never had less than 30mins shooting video, 50/60p gets me about 45mins from an lpe6nh, 25,30p will get an hour. I’ve been using the 5C since April so lots of time with it.

    • @4KLive

8K? 4K? or FHD. I actually see the battery level dropping without recording, (all new canon batteries) with one battery.

    • @cruachfilms
      @cruachfilms Год назад +2

@@4KLive the battery life is dependant on frame rate more than resolution. Any resolution in 25/30p around an hour any resolution on 50/60p around 45mins, it’s always oversampling from 8k that why the battery life will drop even when not recording.

I carry and use both all the time. I quite agree with your finding in your review
R5C Needing 10sec to switch video/photo mode is bad for journalism use( power on time is a bit slower too).
R5C need to use a external PD power supply to use all the function/lens is a bummer to keep the weight down. I can live with changing battery every 30min, but extra weight when hand-helding is bad.
R5C is Unable to use the programme the dial at the back for EV+/- is really non-sense. it actually have less buttons for assigning than the R5.
Canon could just keep the IBIS in the R5C, the fan will solve the heating issue.
R5C is a really good video camera, just why does is not fix the easily fixed problem.
For most case the R5 works as well, difficult to see the difference in video quality, if it over heat use a fan to blow on it nearby ( fix the fan on the tripod)
