  • When I first started out in audio 15 years ago, I was always searching for the easiest way to edit drums in logic pro x. For the first 10 years I tried a lot of different techniques because flex time just seemed to be a pain in the butt. I wanted to stop using flex time! And for awhile I did... But after years of music production I finally found out how to use flex time, but in a simpler way. If you are struggling to edit drums in logic, this technique should help you out.

    This is a great tip! THanks for sharing. Couldn't you get similar results just using the noise gate and bouncing? That's basically what you are using Trigger for.

    This is awesome, thank you! Only thing I’d like to add is that logic has a function quicker than loading a trigger plugin - if you select the track you’re creating a trigger from (ie kick or snare) and hit control+D, it duplicates the track as a midi file with a sample ready to go. Then you’d still bounce it’s an audio file etc. Thanks again :)

  • @Highlineheros
    @Highlineheros 2 года назад +4

    An easier way is to use remove silence control + X. You can remove everything that is below a certain threshold without using trigger.

    Idea 💡 Would it work to use a trigger on the kick and snare when recording drum tracks THEN use the samples as our guides?

    • @HomeRecordingNetwork
      @HomeRecordingNetwork  2 года назад

      Not sure! Interesting though. I have never used trigger in real time!

  • @gio55371
    @gio55371 Год назад

    This is a great idea, but when you have to switch flex back on after bouncing in place you're then relying on Logics transient analysis again. So won't you end up in the same position with transient markers all out of place on your new drum replacement track?

  • @donratto
    @donratto 3 года назад +1

    Thanks for this! I'm gonna have to research a little further though as I've never used groups before, so that was all like a foreign language to me :D also, didn't understand why the rest of the kit would follow the quantised kick and snare...is that because they're grouped? Or is something else causing that?

    • @HomeRecordingNetwork
      @HomeRecordingNetwork  3 года назад

      No problem! Yes that is exactly why the rest of the kit will follow the kick and snare. You need to have quantized locked selected in your group. Would you like me to make a video explaining groups?

    • @donratto
      @donratto 3 года назад +1

      @@HomeRecordingNetwork Hi. Thanks for getting back to me! I immediately looked for videos on groups and it was a bit of a revelation! Been using Logic since 2013 and never came across their use before. I’ll be trying your method later today as I have some drums to work with on a recent track.

    What if there is an area that you don’t want affected by Flex Pitch? Say you have a section that isn’t tied to the tempo, like a dramatic intro. What do you do in that case?

    • @HomeRecordingNetwork
      @HomeRecordingNetwork  Год назад

      In this case I would still have the intro tied to a tempo. You can change tempo in the same project.

  • @LennartIbanez

    Does'nt work for me, Logic still cuts through transients and I can not yet find a way move the transient markers, it all works very glitchy.
    Would be nice if it was possible to choose a trigger time just like in Pro tools beat detective, so that it wont cut in the transient

  • @fajnestudio8954
    @fajnestudio8954 2 года назад +1

    Slicing at transients takes forever. I've watched a few videos where the operator selects "slice at transients" and it's done in a matter of seconds. Mine is taking half an hour and I'm on a pretty high spec Mac. Any else had this?

      Hey bud thank! If you are using logic you can do this right in your DAW. Check out this video I found. I would also add that tigger by slate is the best though... It is well worth the investment and isn't to expensive! ruclips.net/video/IP3dcsYxVhg/видео.html

      @@HomeRecordingNetwork Thanks dude. I went with the trail of Addictive Trigger, and followed your video carefully, but after the whole day at it i had to give up. I tried your way (quantise made things worse) the longer way as described, and the really stupid way (trying to move every hit). Our guitarist seems to think it's easy with Reaper, so he can have a crack..

    • @HomeRecordingNetwork

      Yea you can’t just quantize it and hope for the best unless you have a spot on drummer like I did in the video. It just takes practice! Editing is hard! Good luck bud.

      @@HomeRecordingNetwork I tried this way, the only problem is that you nowhave a midi track of the drums, the problem being that Flextime doesn’t do midi, in turn you can't use it to detect transients. Can you then make an audio track of the triggered midi? How would you do this? Thanks
