  • In this video I take on the infamous "Shift to Park" problem that plagues 2016 to 2019 Chevy Malibus. Stick around until the end of the video for an update on how well the fix has held up after 3 years!
Here's the information on the part I bought from DigiKey:
    Manufacturer Product #: D2HW-BL221H
    DigiKey Part #: Z12227-ND

My 2018 Malibu was doing this intermittently and when I went to trade it in the dealer (trying to knock down the trade in price) told me this was a $1k repair. It is actually easier than depicted here in that no 'prying' device is needed (it can also scratch the console). Just pull out the "change pocket" at the back of the console and pull the console up from the hole. Everything else is the same. Tough to solder only because the part and wire is so small. I timed the whole procedure and it took me 10 minutes and 34 seconds beginning to end.

GM would replace the whole shifter assembly with the same crappy switch. I fixed it first by bending that little tab, which lasted about a year, then I fitted a little piece of tubing over the shifter pin and that seems to have done the trick. But if that eventually fails, your solution seems to be the best even though it costs big bucks!!

bending the tab is good, but also add some 3 in 1 machine oil into the switch (blue part). Should keep it going forever. Fixed mine a month ago this way and no problems so far.

    Thank you for the video!
The guy in the other videos replaced the whole shifter!
And does it work on my 2019 LT

The problem will be back in 3-5 years without also adding an in-line jumper harness. GM part #84733196
It has some sort of resistor in-line that reduces current rush when parking button is depressed, that was causing a small amount of carbon to build up on switch contacts.

but can you do a video to fix a different glitch? when putting shifter into manual mode then pressing those 2 top buttons on the top of the shifter, it doesn't want to stay in that manual mode. it goes back to regular drive mode even though the shifter is all the back in manual mode. can this be fixed relatively easily?

Do I need to cut off the electricity from the battery when doing this operation?

@@canifixitofficialQuick question if you don’t mind? Does the micro switch just slip out of its position so you can solder? Is there anything holding the micro switch in place?
