Spin friendly home wickets are sort of the only thing that keeps SL cricket in the grind today. Until we become consistent these wins don't mean anything. I think the problem with Sri Lanka is that they have lost inspirational leaders since Sanga and Jayawardene's exit. Malinga couldn't do it and Mathews didn't become the player that they expected and so it developed a void which astonishingly still exists. Sri Lanka needs a character like Ranatunga to take them out of this slump because when I see Sri Lanka I see lots of promise but not a lot of grit, ambition or inspiration. Sri Lanka is a far better team than how they've performed in the last 5 years. The Asia Cup 2022 was an example of how good they can be. Jayasuriya was a maverick in his time. I don't think the ODI result matters too much in context, unless the hybrid model is put into place for all India matches for the CT, and the matches happen in SL. Because these are particular conditions that will only happen in the likes of SL and Bangladesh. Indian pitches rarely turn like this anymore in ODI cricket.

Indian team selection committee is obsessed with Rishabh Pant due to the illusion he gives on 'intent' with blind swinging of the bat. He was continuously on tour, batting in the nets against quality bowlers, playing the matches, yet like before his performance was not good white ball cricket. Though his recovery journey is commendable, in terms of performance there was nothing special in the last T20WC(also 2 T20 WCs before that) where the pitches was challenging, spinning and tricky. Again it reflected in SL tour where as soon as pitch turned challenging it reflected on his performance where he got out for single digits. Somewhere we are chasing the PR around the players than looking at the stats impartially. It IS terribly unfair to treat KL Rahul who is a far better quality player with Rishabh Pant. Even inT20, it is unfair to carry KL's IPL issues to national team selection. He has far better stats than majority of the players. KL was a captain just 3 ODIs before and lead the team with no big names to a historic win against SA and he is not even a contender for captaincy anymore. IMO, KL made a mess out of himself by deciding to keep wickets. His primary role was just batting, he was the best after V Kohli and he had dip in the form for just 6 months during the BD test series. Now it looks crazy when the selectors, commentator compare him with likes of Pant. Even Shubhman Gill who replaced KL as an opener is not doing great aft the nature of Ahd pitch got changed from flat track. Leave alone 2023 WC, KL has better stats in his first WC (2019- away) than Gill's first WC in 2023(home). Team is more becoming like Delhi-Panjab-Mumbai-GJ dominated and looking for just an excuse to add more players of these states. Hope KL's performance gets viewed as a pure batter. Rohit Sharma has missed a lot of games due to fitness, i think it was unfair for Pandya if they do not make him captain, in the near future, given he isn't completely unfit.
Indian team selection committee is obsessed with Rishabh Pant due to the illusion he gives on 'intent' with blind swinging of the bat. He was continuously on tour, batting in the nets against quality bowlers, playing the matches, yet like before his performance was not good white ball cricket. Though his recovery journey is commendable, in terms of performance there was nothing special in the last T20WC(also 2 T20 WCs before that) where the pitches was challenging, spinning and tricky. Again it reflected in SL tour where as soon as pitch turned challenging it reflected on his performance where he got out for single digits. Somewhere we are chasing the PR around the players than looking at the stats impartially.
It IS terribly unfair to treat KL Rahul who is a far better quality player with Rishabh Pant. Even inT20, it is unfair to carry KL's IPL issues to national team selection. He has far better stats than majority of the players. KL was a captain just 3 ODIs before and lead the team with no big names to a historic win against SA and he is not even a contender for captaincy anymore. IMO, KL made a mess out of himself by deciding to keep wickets. His primary role was just batting, he was the best after V Kohli and he had dip in the form for just 6 months during the BD test series. Now it looks crazy when the selectors, commentator compare him with likes of Pant. Even Shubhman Gill who replaced KL as an opener is not doing great aft the nature of Ahd pitch got changed from flat track. Leave alone 2023 WC, KL has better stats in his first WC (2019- away) than Gill's first WC in 2023(home).
Team is more becoming like Delhi-Panjab-Mumbai-GJ dominated and looking for just an excuse to add more players of these states. Hope KL's performance gets viewed as a pure batter. Hope Sanju Samson gets more chances ahead of Pant. Only silver lining is that a chance given to an Assamese R Parag.
