I grow the Clivias in Northern Illinois so I am always carrying them in and out according to the seasons. After watching many of your videos I am going to change to plastic containers. What temperature do you consider cool down in S. Africa and since you don’t withhold watering in fall/winter it doesn’t seem to affect your success one bit. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Lekker to hear a South African accent , I live in South Carolina USA . Great video very helpful tips . Clivia”dare my favorites, remind me so much of home in Transkei where I used to see them flowering by the hundreds under the coastal forest canopy . 👍
Hi, I enjoyed this video. I am in the UK and a UK grower said that they need a bright, dry, cold dormant period over winter in order to produce flowers in spring. Is this right please? 🙂
Hi Julia, I do not dry out my clivias during winter. I do water them slightly less, but it is only because they stay moist for longer in the colder months. I never let my clivias dry out completely. Clivia is do not go dormant during the winter months, if you look carefully you will see that they continue to push new leaves during winter. For healthy and good flowering clivias: - Around 80% shade and 20% sun. No direct hot sun - a well draining and aerated soil/medium - I water mine roughly once a week, depending on weather. I don’t let my clivias dry out completely, always keep the moist - I phase in a higher Pottasium fertiliser from around 2-3 months before and after flowering for more healthy flower and seed forming. Rest of the year a more balanced fertilizer with higher Nitrogen. If you give to much Nitrogen before flowering season, your plants might push too many new leaves and potentially flower poorly. - Protection against pests, fungi and bacteria - I give systemic pesticide and fungicides Clivia Regards 👨🌾, Manie
Your pots look like very suitable and cheap, you could put an amazon link in the video, so you could earn a comission and we could buy the same pot as you
That made me laugh 😅 thought you were peeing on it! I like your sense of humour
Can you please advise on watering summer and winter?
