Mens Foon's definition of racism is absolutely incorrect. Racism has nothing to do with one group having power over another. It is simply whether someone is discriminating against another person based on their race, it has nothing to do with who is the dominant numerically.

Firstly, good on Meng and Nobby for fronting. Secondly, the idea that Meng put forward that racism is soley a manifestation of structural power imbalances between groups is a marxist notion and it's dangerous. If we accept this premise and also accept the premise that New Zealanders of European extraction are proportionately over representated in positions of power, it becomes easier to lazily suggest without exidence that systemic racism is perpetratred and perpetuated by New Zelanders of European extraction against other groups. Racism is in fact, the idea that discrimination against a person is justified because of their race and it can play out in any direction. It often manifests in interpersonal relations, but we've also seen it operate at a societal level. Meng should not be able to get away unchallenged with his use of a narrow marxist definition of racism.

I think the WEF is a symptom, not a cause. So these zeitgeists take over thought for the majority, then die out and are replaced by the next one. I already see signs of the current fads dying out. Obviously Foon is out of his depth tongue tied and twisted for sure,at least he finally had the courage to front .It was funny hearing his reaction when Shaun informed him that Nobby Clark was also to be interviewed. He needs to read the definition of racism in the Oxford dictionary .He also unwittingly outed himself as a racist... white people can still make a contribution...I was waiting for "some of my best friends are white people".The man is weak and confused and needs to stand down.

I used to know a woman who worked at a department store, she was so happy that her daughter, graduated as a doctor, had married a new zealander, whom also was a doctor. She told me she was so happy that her daughter married him, and not a blackman. And if she had a blackmans baby, she could not be able to hold it. That is the honest truth. Meng, guess what that womans ethnicity is? Not white. Chinese Taiwanese. Do you think that is racism? I cannot ever forget what she said. It was a shocker!
Do you not like white people Meng? Gwai lo Gwai por? Did you know my daughter was racially abused on the train coming home from Auckland Uni? Another guess what, the abuser was Maori, and my daughter is Eurasian. He was going on about Asians. What do you say about that Meng?

All I got in response was a link to their pathetic statement on their website. He now suggests people take their complaint to the Human Rights tribunal to test it (he displays avoidance by emphasising the hate speech aspect rather than the racist aspect). If that is all he can do in his role then what is the point of having a Race Relations Commissioner.
