    In the last 3 months I've gone from a 21 handicap to a 13 simply by following this young man's advice. It took 65 years for me to find this wisdom from someone much younger than me. Another life lesson. Excellent.

    Matty you are the high handicap whisperer! I started golf 6 months ago and went from a 24 handicap to a 14 handicap in the last 3 months from seeing a coach, watching as many of your videos as I can find and practicing as much possible!
    Shooting 81-86 consistently now and loving golf!!! Keep up the good work brother!!! God bless

      @@MilkismybeverageI feel you with the driver! Some days it’s an absolute weapon and other days it’s the bane of my existence. I’ve got an old 7 wood that’s 200 yards with a push draw no matter how bad I’m striking the ball that day!
      Yep we definitely are on the same track! Keep it up and I’ll see you at scratch!

      @@nathanialcollier1784 @Milkismybeverage - can I recommend to you both the Mini Driver. I purchased the taylormade BRNR. I find so many more fairways. And it still generates Power. Get fit though. Try different shafts with it

      I'm thinking about the mini driver too. I'm looking at the Callaway model because I play an epic max driver. Like the other posters in this thread I like to use a high lofted fairway wood too. I had a 3w that never outperformed my 5w off the deck and wasn't any more accurate off the tee than the driver. I took Matt's advice and took a lesson vs just figuring it out myself. The instructor said I didn't have the swing speed to make 3w work. He ran the numbers with me and figured out I hit 3w 2/10 times well (215 yds average). I hit 5w 8/10 times well (200 average). I.e. 430yds vs 1600yds. He explained a lot of amateurs dont hit 3w well and dont see accuracy advantages either. I took Matt's advice again and just pulled it out of the bag because it was a major distraction. I'm thinking about filling the spot in the bag with the mini driver, or a 7w.

    At this point, I am not even thinking about golf. "After you solve this problem, there is a myriad of problems waiting." This, this is life, it is what makes life so difficult but amazing at the same time. We are constantly solving another problem. It's only when we don't have another problem to solve that we find ourselves bored. Maybe this is why golf is the perfect masochistic sport.

    Needed this video today playa! Yesterday, I went for a quick 9 holes and took the gf, I was tired and fatigued for a number of reasons and found my decision making was off - but mainly I was feeling uncharacteristically frustrated at my bad shots. My gf helps me reframe in those times, she watches your videos along with me - she’s my Golfsidekick-sidekick!

    Using your break 90 tips, I shot my lowest round of the year last weekend and it maybe could have been my lowest round ever if the skies hadn't opened up and poured torrential rain on the last two holes (I ended up 3 putting on both of those holes because the greens were soaked and I realized I never learned or practiced putting in the wet).
    I focused on hitting to my shot shape and exploited the clubs I hit the best (for me, my 8 iron and 52 degree). I did the math at every tee box to figure out how to get within 150 (for my 8 iron) or 80-100 (for my 52) for my 'free throw'. This opened up loads more opportunities to putt for birdie or two putt for par/bogey. Turns out I only needed to hit driver 2 or 3 times the entire round and I probably could have left it in the bag for the entire round. Nearly broke 85 for the first time and while I made a few mistakes and mishits here and there, I still had a blast and shot the lowest score that day from our friend group (except from the scratch golfer in our midst with that shot a 74 lol). Thanks a ton for your content and your advice! It's so hard to find a good youtube personality who has both expertise and relatability. That goes a long way for my golfing IQ and I'm grateful your content isn't just strictly peddling overly-abstracted, technical swing advice that typically doesn't apply to the average golfer.

    This was either the best or the worst video of yours to smoke weed before hand. I'm still figuring that out.
    Your point about how who you are off the course affects how you play golf; rather, who you are as a person is who you are as a golfer. For me, I am patient, but I get angry in my everyday life at small things. It's something I've tried to actively work on for the past couple of years, and when I started watching you, you made a similar point to this on youtube or it was when you were on the podcast "The Off Brand Golf Show".
    Even though I had worked on being less angry/frustrated at things, and made progress at it, the golf course brought it back full force. After one particularly bad round, I was so angry I never wanted to play golf again. I beleive a couple days later I stumbled on one of your videos for the first time, and it really opened my eyes. I rememeber I shot the best score of my life just days after watching your videos. I try every round to occupy Zen mode, be fully conscious, and to not get angry at anything.
    Which leads to my favorite line of this video, is that you can't get mad like you're a PGA pro because you don't practice like one, you don't practice 5 hours a day. As you say, "you don't deserve to even be that angry". If I top a ball after drinking two beers and practicing zero, I can't really be that angry huh? It happens. Funny enough, I always hit my best shots after a bad shot. I can't tell you how many times I've topped the ball on my tee shot to 50 yards, and I pull out the 3 iron and crank it 230-240 yards. It's turned into my best club lol. But I am so mindful and fully in the moment when I pull out that 3 iron. I think this feeling is why I always have a good shot after a bad one.
    Thanks for making us all better golfers but even more so making us better people while you're at it. What a playa.

    The 28yrs I spent in the Army impressed upon me that I was getting paid to find solutions. That is a gem you shared there. You convinced me to use the range finder. Wow. Yes, I have a good eye for distances, however, the accuracy of the range finder? It has tightened up my "known" average distances in practice. I shoot the distance I want to hit, pick the right club while playing, and there we go. From another video, you convinced me to enjoy the game more by going ahead and play the old man tees! That was a big pill to swallow. The pride inside can be a killer. No longer. I cannot smack the long ball any longer. I now own it, play the old man tees, and I am so much more relaxed and happier. Thanks, my friend. I am back down to a new 16 handicap and have not been there in a LONG time. My goal is to bring it down some more.

    That range finder is the key to shooting better. Knowing how far to the pin gives you the confidence to swing the club. I'm nailing the green 150 yards out. Now just need to get closer to the pin and improve my putting. And my driving swing tends to fall off by the 5th hole because my body gets into an iron swing. But I'll get there. I got the potential to get under 90 by the end of the season here in Chicago. But if I don't, I'll be in a good position to get there next year. I entered a trackman league for the winter to keep a bit fresh. Cheers

    • @Doggepe
      @Doggepe 21 день назад

      If you are nailing the green from 150 and in and not breaking 90 you have other things to work on than getting closer to the pin from 150

      Amazing work you are doing!!! I really can’t thank you enough. Totally changed my game. Shot 78 today (7 stroke PR), couldn’t break 90 a year ago.

    Philosopher Matty Boom Boom

  • @SirRob24
    @SirRob24 27 дней назад

    I've fully incorporated the Matty Boom Boom school of thought into my golf game. My issue is I haven't hit enough balls yet. I still don't have a stock shot or stock shot shape or a club I'm fully confidential with every single swing of that club. Right now I'm sitting around 35% of the time the ball hooks. 35% it slices. 15% of the time it goes straight. Then 15% it's a thin or fat. So when I golf I try to pick a straight line with enough space to accommodate my ball if it goes left or right or straight. Currently sitting at a 32 handicap. I need more reps. I have to hit more balls. I haven't hit enough balls yet to golf better.

      Just keep playing knowing with time you will get better. Enjoy the process. It takes reps to develop muscle memory. In no time you will be breaking 100 every round. Then the sky is the limit!
