  • We're reaching the end of this series on Mike Paradinas, and as per tradition (and honestly by necessity since I think his stuff fits better in this format than the inevitable album ranking) I'm counting down my favorite tracks of his.

    10. Petronas Hardstep - Probably a surpise, but the strings and super addicting synth pads are wonderful, and that squelching beat followed by those beautiful bell pads only to have a complete WTF ending only adds to it, would've been one of the best tracks on Lunatic Harness had it made the cut
    9. Hector's House - A long time ago this was my favourite for a bit, as well as the only track besides my real number 1 to do so, but now it isn't even my favourite from bluff limbo
    8. Brace Yourself Jason - First of many obvious choices, one of the best IDM album openers
    7. Twangle Frent - ngl I was expecting this to be your number 1 so the fact that it wasn't even in the top 5 was surprising
    6. XT - Even though XTLP isn't part of the mainline albums, this is still his best opener in my eyes
    5. Hasty Boom Alert - Another obvious choice
    4. Bombadub - And we go from probably the most obvious song on this list to the least obvious. This is an underrated gem, and feels like a journey through a retro video game with all its arcade sounds
    3. Weakling Paradinas - And now we've reached the potentially perfect album endings, absolutely deserving of number 1, even though there's two I like better
    2. Goodbye Goodbye - Was tough picking between this and WP but ultimately this one's easier accessibility and pop sound leads to it sticking with me longer term, the only reason it's not number 1 is because it took a while to grow on me
    1. Phiesope - You know, as much as I've become a massive fan of Paradinas' work and I've discovered some truly amazing songs thanks to him, nothing has managed to top the very first song of his I ever heard. This is not just my favourite Paradinas song, it's my favourite song of all time. I probably never would've discovered this channel had it not been for this one song opening my eyes to the world of electronic music all those years ago
Honorable Mentions: Roy Castle, Fallen Angels Entering Pandemonium (Slag Boom Van Loon), Ease Up VIP, Slowdance (Jake Slazenger) Aphex Twin On Remix (check that one out, it's a must listen, and I personally prefer it over the original), Frank, Catkin and Teasel, My Mengegus, Melodion, Dustar 3, Magic Pony Ride Pt 1, Mountain Island Boner, Lunatic Harness, Winner Takes All (Mike & Rich), Intellitag, Summer Living 2, Tomorrows World (loads of his archival stuff could've gone here but I chose this one to represent it, check it out on archive org, it's µ-Ziq (Mu-Ziq) - Soundcloud Tracks 392) Dexedrine Girl, Phi 1700 u/v, Gob Bots, Swan Vesta, The Fear, Glink, The Sonic Fox, Tango N'Vectif, 4 Time Egg, Rise of the Salmon, Meinheld, Pine Effect, Rain Instrumental (Heterotic), Within a Sound oh good lord that's a lot

Can’t believe we’re finally nearing the end of this series. Mike may have released a lot of music over the years, but he definitely knows how to make the majority of it great. Now here’s my list (this list was thrown together so almost all the picks might be arbitrary. it might even change as time goes on):
    1. Weakling Paradinas
    2. Twangle Frent
    3. Hasty Boom Alert
    4. The Motorbike Track
    5. Swan Vesta
    6. Phiesope
    7. Johnny Mastricht
    8. Goodbye, Goodbye
    9. My Little Beautiful
    10. 56
Yep, I decided that my number one pick would be the same as yours after much heavy deliberation. It’s really the only one I don’t see changing anytime soon. At this point, I feel like Weakling Paradinas is like µ-Ziq’s own little Strobe. It’s that fucking excellent.
I hope we get a worst to best ranking on this dude soon. If not, I’ll be looking forward to the next series!!!

My list (so far, I've only heard the first eight albums and Magic Pony Ride):
    10. Johnny Mastricht
    9. Tango 'N Vectif
    8. The Motorbike Track
    7. Brace Yourself Jason
    6. Goodbye, Goodbye
    5. Roy Castle
    4. Weakling Paradinas
    3. Within a Sound
    2. Swan Vesta
    1. Twangle Frent
But yeah wow, pretty much every other pick in this video is a great one and the ones I haven't heard yet sounded pretty damn good as well. Maybe I should dive back into Mike's albums so I can give Weakling Paradinas the listen it apparently deserves... great vid, as always
(edit: yeah holy shit Weakling Paradinas did not disappoint)

Magic Pony Ride was the first full album by Paradinas I'd listened to. I'd heard a few of his dnb tracks before from various albums but when the first couple of singles from Magic Pony Ride got recommended to me on spotify, I was hooked. I was so excited when the album dropped that I snagged one of the CDs off bandcamp. Such an amazing album throughout, and my favourite from last year!

I thought Twangle Frent was #1 for sure XD it was in my plans to do a top 25 video of this guy on my channel but that never happened. Loved the list! The only 2 on your list that didn't initially make mine are Gob Bots and the one that wasn't even out when I made it. Fuck it, here's what my top 10 looked like:
    10. Weakling Paradinas
    9. Strawberry Fields Hotel
    8. Pine Effect
    7. Dance 2
    6. The Fear
    5. Phragmal Synthesis (all three parts as one)
    4. Secret Stair (both parts as one)
    3. Swan Vesta
    2. Goodbye Goodbye
    1. Twangle Frent
I doubt it'd look that different nowadays. I'm too lazy to update it because MAN that list was hard to make. There are tons of honorable mentions I could make here, but I'm afraid if I start I won't be able to stop.

This is a very interesting list, it makes me think I should revisit Bluff Limbo which I could never quite get into.
I feel like giving my own top 10 off the top of my head:
    10. Green Crumble (remix) (soundcloud dump)
    9. Blauwasser (Scurlage)
    8. Houzz 10 (Chewed Corners)
    7. Giddy All Over (Goodbye)
    6. Iesope (Tango n' Vectif)
    5. Intellitag (Brace Yourself)
    4. Midwinter Log (Lunatic Harness)
    3. Mountain Island Boner (Chewed Corners)
    2. Meinheld (Bilious Paths)
    1. Mushroom Compost (Lunatic Harness)

Hasty Boom Alert is top 3, Meinheld, Hard Love (Kid Spatula), and Ease Up should be somewhere in that mess of middling ranks. Reference Mike Paradinas live shows back in 1998-2002 for context.

  • @glibglob8681
    @glibglob8681 Год назад +1

I agree with the top 3 completely lol, also my top 3 favourites and I realy dont have much to add beyond what you said.
Weakling Paradinas especially is a huge fave
    some other picks I particularly agree with are The Hwicci Song, Bliss, Housewife, mu-Ziq Theme and Phi*1700 [V/v}
im really bad at like ranking songs numerically over eachother for the same reason your top 3 is a tie, but I wanna mention some other top favourites of mine (that weren't in the video):
    - Mushroom Compost - I mean, that melody is just too addicting. I'm not a Lunatic Harness superfan or anything its just a dam good song
    - Rave Whistle Jungle Tekno Mix - this might seem weird as a favourite track but the oldschool rave sound to it is just really addicting lol
    - Phragmal Synthesis Pt. 3 - All parts of the song are good, but this part is by far the best and as a whole its a bit disjointed however, so the whole thing doesnt get the spot. But part 3 of Phragnam Synthesis is just so damn FUNKY and it gets massive ponts for that
    - Xolbe 2 - another pick that might seem weird, but theres something oddly alluring about the song's atmosphere. The constant vacuum cleaner like pad, airy melodies and reverby percussion makes this sound like a relaxing stay inside some sort of factory or warehouse, as weird as it sound. It helps that it exactly fit the atmosphere of playing Satisfactory with friends lol
    also honorable mention to:
    - Turquoise Hyperfizz - addicting jungle breakbeats and this weird snappy chewed corners neon vibe are great and I really dig em, but I've heard it too recently to say its a favourite
might end up not being one but I wanted to shout it out tbh
