    Mushrooms and microgreens are the most versatile food, they grow faster than any plant, there materials cost little to nothing, and they are incredibly easy to sell at markets and restaurants, everyone wants gourmet mushrooms and herbs. I quit college and started a small oyster farm in my parents garden and got 300 quid a week, I know have my own full scale farm for paying the bills, it really is the high life, its like growing money, and it's legal, unless you do psilocybin lol.

    Thank you John and Brian for doing a great job in showing all the different angles of mushroom farming. We have a lot to learn as a Western society about mushrooms, I really like what Brian is doing with regards to growing local mushrooms on local substrates and growing them outdoors with sunlight and temperature changes. It would be ideal to figure out how to reduce the plastic bag waste. Another great mushroom product is creating a mushroom seasoning.

    interesting enough the next video on microgreens could be a nice symbiotic business, or any greenhouse type business, using the CO2 from the mushroom growth to encourage plant growth, and the O2 production from the greens to help the mushroom growth. Not to mention the reuse of the mushroom compost.

    The great thing about mushrooms is that on top of selling the fruits you can also sell the "roots" or reuse them. I just planted my first small pots as a test 2 weeks ago, growing fast and almost ready to fruit.

    • @FeelingShred
      @FeelingShred 4 года назад +3

      My experiments turned out better than expected, I will keep it short and say this: these things (oysters) will pretty much grow anywhere in any conditions. Don't let fear dominate. Just do it.

    • @BaltimoresBerzerker
      @BaltimoresBerzerker 3 года назад

      What do you mean the roots? So you're harvesting your oysters, cutting the mycelium and substrate off the base, and replanting the mycelium/substrate you cut off the fruiting body in the same kind of substrate? Or planting it under a little soil?

    • @FeelingShred
      @FeelingShred 3 года назад

    • @BaltimoresBerzerker
      @BaltimoresBerzerker 3 года назад +1

      @@FeelingShred oh, you're saying you take spent substrate and use it to inoculate your next grow? I thought you were saying when you harvest you leave some of the stem behind, which in my experience usually just leads to contamination.

    • @FeelingShred
      @FeelingShred 3 года назад +1

      @@BaltimoresBerzerker Yeah usually people just bury that spent substrate in soil so it decomposes (sometimes, the spent substrate will even give additional flushes when left in nature...) or you can shred it all apart to use portions of it in a mix for new substrate. The space that I was using for these experiments was rented out after the 1st yield, so I couldn't go much further with the experiments. Also, it seems like using coffee grounds in the mix made them taste a bit too strong, maybe not using coffee grounds in the future, or using much less of it.

    Outdoor mushrooms are easy to grow, but inside not so much. You constantly need a sterile environment and the slightest little bit of mold can destroy an entire grow in a couple days.
    I grow them outside in my garden bed and I get mushrooms every time it rains. All summer long.

    • @7munkee
      @7munkee 5 лет назад +2

      @Piper Mccoy The thing about growing outdoors is that the bacteria that would decimate an indoor grow has natural predators outside and is kept in check by nature. Sure, it may infect your grow, but it will not overtake it because it is constantly getting attacked itself!--Nature is amazing!

    100k a year is possible if you have lots to invest and a good salesman. Growing up on a small farm and knowing many small farmers the way most make money is by having lots of 2 to 4k dollar projects going at a time. Bee's, berries, veggies, goats, sheep, mushrooms, ect. That way the market isn't saturated. The products are somewhat seasonal. And if one product doesn't sell you have others to fall back on. The average farmer in the midwest averages 125$ an acre. That being the average...

    What The Fungus are you tailgating off of Curtis's videos? Yours was way more detailed than Curtis's video. 15 minutes versus versus versus what...….45 minutes. Wow that's a long time. Lol...………. Awesome job! My friend is suffering from seizures real bad. She hasn't moved to Colorado to try medical marijuana yet. Going to try the Lions Mane you talked about. Pray that is helps her. If you know anything else to add let me know. Awesome job!

    hello John long time no see hope you are well we are approaching growing season in Pennsylvania in a couple more months this year I will be growing mushrooms possibly sewing some kits I can definitely see the importance of the lions mane mushroom and recently I learned how a man cooked it exactly like a steak if you would like that link let me know he has a channel on here and his video went viral on TikTok he gives an excellent presentation by smashing the mushroom between two frying pans and then marinating it with a beet juice to get the red like the meat color etc. quite a nice job😮

    here's a few suggestions worth trying
    choose thegrow them in the best conditions - some such as oyster muchrooms like cool humid conditions and may be placed outside (I learned these and why they work from Gregs Mushroom Grower site )
    top variety - there are many available.
