I have seen a looot of mainstream stores irradiating diamonds and selling them at a higher price than a champagne, brown or white/clear diamond... I have seen them go up to $10,000+ for just a 1 CT I1 - I3 irradiated blue diamond . I think irradiation is a great inexpensive idea to getting a fancy colored diamond, but they should not jack up the price higher just because it was irradiated/treated. x-x
I have also seen stores that sell them a lot cheaper - about the same price of a brown or white diamond of the same clarity, cut, etc. or maybe just a tad more, but still very inexpensive, which I think is how it should be.
Also thanks so much for this! It also helps me spot sellers who might be advertising irradiated blue diamonds and just jacking up the prices to make more profit. Already caught one store doing this since you posted this. ,0,

Why do they use the Brown diamonds? Just because they're poor quality or is there something about being Brown that helps make it blue?

I liked the irradiated blue diamond better than the un-irradiated one, however the second natural color (I think you called it deep blue?) was definitely the most beautiful of the three, imo.

At the risk of sounding uncouth, I thought the irradiated diamond looked better.

HI Alexis, we can show you both natural or irradiated blue diamonds- the natural ones cost way more than the irradiated ones. There's a "contact us" button on the top right hand side of the Diamonds by Lauren website- the link to our site is in the description of this video

Okay. So it’s lighter blue. I saw some blue diamond earrings at Kohl’s and real diamond they said it’s blue diamonds so radioactive blue diamond is bluer?

Great video. :D Good demostration to show natural vs. the hyper-saturated irradiated stones' electric-like color. How big was the irradiated stone? That FDB Asscher was gorgeous.
Would be fun to see a natural vs. HTHP comparison, too.

when creating HPHT diamonds, you get a certain color distribution and some variety of color. many colors and varieties of colors could be natural as well as HPHT. so a video would not show any real difference.
microscopic analysis of inclusions works, inclusions look differently in HPHT diamonds.

The treated diamond is not blue but greenish blue. This colour also exists with natural colour diamonds but is extremely rare with this saturation.

    Hi Joel,
If there's no GIA report, we can assume it's treated- in fact we can be sure it's treated.
NO other paperwork has any significance whatsoever in a case like this.
Columbia s NOT known for supplying natural blue diamonds.
Sorry Joel, if this is bad news.... but I hope this helps

I was wondering if the "Rare Colombian Blue Diamond" I purchased recently is actually natural (as thought of) or not. The paper work has no mention of irradiated, hybrid, synthetic, or treated Diamond -Which brings me to my question: Does Columbia even supply Natural Blue Diamonds?
    Thank you - Joel

Naturals are MUCH more beautiful than the treated ones! I don't get how anyone would want a treated one instead of a purely natural beauty like those shown here.

Maybe because the natural ones are notoriously expensive and people still want some color in their ring? What's it to you, anyway? Judging what someone else likes is rather immature.
