Wipeout Merge was released in 2021/22 but it's a mobile game---it looks like mobile garbage type gameplay based on the videos I saw. Last true "official" release was Wipeout 2048 before the developer collapsed (Psygnosis turned into Studio Liverpool when Sony took over), but that was on PS Vita. Wipeout Omega Collection was released in 2017 under xDev in Sony with like 2 other developers for PS4. I think I got Wipeout Omega Collection through PSN+ monthly free games.
E3 was technically pointless with Internet video sites and streaming/RUclips/social media existing for getting more into seeing what people are into. So, then retailers could go off that instead of waiting in line or dealing with the expo costs. There was all the other trade shows around anyway with less focus on USA due to Global consumers buying power increasing. And then big publishers also doing their own thing, negating the need of E3.
That fisherman game looks equal to what was produced by Sega, Nintendo, and Sony during the NES through PS2 era in general. Low cost to produce, sell to families, maybe milk for cheap easy sequels. I think only Nintendo keeps doing stuff going like that now. The rest is left now to shovelware indie game developers and mobile game trash.
