  • This pond was established on 1687 BS by King Janajyoti Malla for Queen Rajya Laxmi Malla’s remembrance. This historical pond is 40 years older than the rani pokhari of Kathmandu. King of Kathmandu Pratap Malla was inspired by this pond and on 1727 BS he established rani pokhari of Kathmandu. When Pratap Malla attacked Bhaktapur he also damaged the pond servely. And on 1735 BS, King Jitamitra Malla re-constructed the pond. And around 2040 BS Nepali army claimed the land for trannings and banned citizens from the pond to ensure the safety of common people. But it opened once a year for the kul pooja of prajapati peoples. From 2075 BS it started re-construction and it was open for public since the completion of re-construction.
