    It is rare for foreigners to learn Tagalog or any Filipino language, due to the default of English being easier. Heck, it is even rare for Filipinos born abroad to learn Tagalog, as they have the mindset of not learning a foreign language. People in general do things that are easy. Learning a foreign language is difficult and learning a new world, but definitely worth it in the end with all the connections made altogether.
    Jared Hartmann is an example.

    Very nice. Brooks' Tagalog is pleasant to the ears. It's the conversational Tagalog (Taglish) you can hear native Filipinos talk to each other.

    Si Kuyang Kano is also impressive. When he used the word Kagalakan it is commonly used in a formal setting like involving religious conversation. It's also amazing that he uses words like TAGALUTO that are very Filipino. Impressive. He also knows the food like Kare Kare and it's ingredients. For a foreigner who has never been to the Philippines, he is better than other Filipinos in the country who don't know Tagalog, especially the rich who grew up speaking English. His accent can be mistaken for that of a true Filipino.

    You guys are freaking awesome. I was born and raised there in the Philippines (Angeles city!!! represent!!) but moved to California when I was 13, but I can honestly tell you that both of you can speak Tagalog waaaay better than me and I am not proud to say that. Thank you for keeping interest in our language and culture guys. As you know, it makes ALL Filipinos happy and proud of you and all foreigners who take the time and learn our not-so-easy to learn language.

    How I wish Pinoys who migrated to other countries will still teach their children Tagalog

    • @gabrielmcdonnell8699
      @gabrielmcdonnell8699 Месяц назад +2

      It all starts with the parents. If they want their children to know Tagalog (or Bisayan, Hiligaynon, Waray, Chavacano etc), they will make sure that they do. The problem is that often they want them to belong so they focus on making sure their kids fluently speak the native language of the country they immigrated to.

    like many Pinoys, I am amazed when I encounter non-Pinoys speaking Tagalog. But what really humbled me was encountering an American who spoke Bisaya, which I don't speak. Because of the similar grammar structures of English and Tagalog, Filipinos usually speak in Taglish, a combination of Tagalog and English. I believe that Taglish facilitates learning Tagalog by an English-speaking person. It allows one to learn Tagalog gradually, easily building on previous learning efforts. And the irony is that speaking in Taglish comes across as more authentic than speaking in pure Tagalog, which is done mostly only in formal situations. Aside from learning the words, the intonations are also important. And there are also many idioms and shortcuts used in conversational Tagalog to be fluent with. I wish you guys all the best in learning more about the language and the culture - maybe listening to Tagalog songs will help.

    I was doing an internship in my aunt's Dentist Practice in Germany, when I was putting on the lead vest on this guy (typical German man) before an x-ray he said to me: "Ayoko yan, hindi na kailangan. Marami nko mga anak." I just looked at my aunt who was laughing her head off. During his session they were talking all in tagalog, a white guy and my aunt. When he left he said to me: "Cge kababayan, kapag nasa Bataan ka bisitahan mko, uuwi nko ng Pinas". I was still in shock all I can do was respond in German. During that time his tagalog was better than mine.
