- We pick up this week right where we left off! The bodywork gets finished up, and the Banana gets prepped for fresh paint. I cut into Matt's one of a kind Corvair hood, and end up needing some advice on how to complete the louvers for the Banana.

entertaining and informational! 🔥🍌
Thank you RUclips!!
#3 on trending and you got RUclips In your comment section. Y’all must be having a good day!
There seems to be a "Southwestern Utah" family of RUclips channels. All of them are very informative. And they all create great content to watch.
NO WAY HI RUclips
When the RUclips algorithm literally drops by and makes a comment.
The perfect fabrication trifecta, Matt's Offroad, Fab Rats and Robby Layton Nation!!
I agree all three videos came in perfectly in line
Sunday mornings used to be so boring.
I was thinking the same thing, I found this site by Matt's offroad, now it's part of the Sunday morning 3.
Same same
It really is a great combination! Great people all around in this trifecta.
As an Aussie you got a chuckle out of me regarding the rise up light! 🤣
I've watched almost every video ever on RUclips in the automotive arena. I have never seen this rapid growth, u might just have a gold mine here Robby.
Thank you we are just being our selfs doing automotive things! But I wouldn’t mind switching careers and become a gold miner haha!
Speaking for myself I sure would like to see a introduction to everyone, some history on yourself and how you got to be where you are today, especially at such a young age. A shop tour would be great as well, you have a gorgeous facility there, a lot of people would kill to have a shop like that and all the good tools and equipment, it’s quite the setup. The channel’s growing fast and you seem to be a natural at this RUclips thing, your definitely no dummy, it was a very smart move to team up with Matt. I know I’ve been thoroughly enjoying M.O.R.R., Fab Rats, and Robby Layton Nation upload trifecta. Lastly props to whomever is doing the editing, they are doing a great job. Keep it all up, stay true to who you are and be yourself and I think you’ll have no trouble keeping the audience and growing once these projects are done.
Thank you very much for that comment!! And my brother is my editor !! He match’s my passion in the editing side of things!
@@RobbyLayton What's your brother's name?. (Critical heroes need recognition!) Y'all ought to introduce him. We produce video and editing is a bear. Go Robby's brother!
I want to get this right. I found Matt's off road recovery by shear chance. Love everyone involved. Watch it daily. That of course led to Fab Rat's and Paul and his incredible fabrication skills and utterly hilarious sense of humour and now onto you and your family of skilled, obviously happy, bodywork and modification experts that give me a good belly laugh. Wonderful stuff you guys. Love the mixture of true craftsmanship blended with hilarious humour with people who are enjoying themselves.
Came the same way, couldn't said it better
This comment wins.
Me too excellent content!
Yep, I fell down the same rabbit hole, just need to find a little more time in my day now
It’s like we’re the same person
I have been a bodyman Painter and outside sales rep all my life and I must say you are the most conscientious shop I have ever seen. You use all the best products including your paint system as in my opinion Spies Hecker is by far the best paint in the world. It is quite refreshing to see the playtime you take as well as we are all human and need a break from the everyday hassle of insurance BS. just to have some fun. your employees will last much longer because of this. I am hoping you all have a very happy new year. hang in there socially and politically as the BEST IS YET TO COME! Yours truly Richard Baumeister
Thank you Richard!! This industry is getting harder and harder!! We are sticking thru it and doing the best job we can to give the best possible repair work and repair vehicles back to crash worthiness it takes skill, good products, and good tooling thank you for watching!!
I second this statement, I wish the "friend" who owned a bodyshop who agreed to take on my 69 camaro repaint project had half of your conscientious work ethic you have displayed in this short video. I also learned a few pointers. Happy New Year!
@@thereplacementfordisplacement I had the same problem with my GTI. I got rear ended and I took it to my "friend". absolutely awful work.
@@someidot3699 NEVER allow a friend to do something like this. If it gets screwed up, you lose a friend and the job too. Ask me how I know...
Good lawd this is all so wholesome. I absolutely agree, Robby you look like you do fantastic work and your shop looks like a fantastic place *to* work. Any time I've been a manager part of my primary ethos is that I want my employees to be happy showing up for work, I want them to want to and enjoy being there, because if that's the case then I know they'll treat the job like something they care about, which brings out the best work in people. Your shop looks like it embodies this mentality and your staff look like they couldn't ask for a better place to have to show up at to earn a paycheck.
I think your channel is just as entertaining, fun & informative as any others out there. Robby you're a natural in front of the camera. Just the right blend of info & fun. Just really cool to watch.
Love the attention to detail that you guys have. Nice to see that there are still people that take pride in their work.
nothing better to say so you copy what the other guy said. what an idiot!!
Check out bee bricks video (the buggest meme yet)
I post the most satisfying videos!!!
I knew body work was highly detailed and labor intensive, but your attention to making it right is another level. Huge respect, amazing job!
Thats how all body work is done. Unless you hire an unprofessional scab
And this people is why a quality paint job takes so much time and why it costs so much.
I guess those "Earl Sheib" paint jobs for about $100 were pure garbage.
@@CTSFanSam Did you ever see one? Uggh
This is why you strip the parts yourself so the body shop has to do minimal work.
They should send the wiring back in a box since Trevor loves that work.
Bobby , you would make a damn fine lecturer for people wishing to learn body work and painting. And your verbal delivery is absolutely amusing and entertaining. Utah seems to be a place where people are worth being amongst !!! 💥😄👍
Watching the professionalism that you are expending on the paint and body restoration of the "banana " makes me wish that I lived in Utah. That way I could have you put your magical talents to the restoration of my '62 Jeep pickup. Great job guys. You have a right to be proud of your work.
Facinating watching guys who know their craft. I think the "new" Banana will be awesome.

new to the channel, found you guys through fabrats, and morr. liking the content. I'll be staying after the banana and the golden nugget. I'm definitely interested in meeting the crew and shop tour
Yeah the shop tour sounds great, I'm enjoying the introduction to collision repair tools already.
Wow you guys are talented and work great as a team. Shop tour would be fantastic. Looks like a big operation under one roof!
Thank you!! We will do A shop your for sure and yes we do a lot Of collision work each month!!
You know, I have watched you when you are with Matt but I never realized just how talented and entertaining (and one smart dude) you are. Very impressed. Gotta say..
I love how you, Fab Rats and Matt's Offroad all dropped videos at the same time. They all tie in well together and made for a great morning. Can't wait to see the banana and golden nugget finished. Keep up the awesome content. 👌
Came over from Matt's channel for obvious reasons. Love the progress. And, a few things that some people might not realize:
-Body shop folks also have to be mechanics. Look at the pieces they took apart just in this video. They have to know - at least the basics - of what these parts do and how to put everything back together. They might not know how to replace timing chains & guides on a 5.4L Ford (and, maybe they do, or could at least figure it out), but they do have to know how to replace ball joints, control arms, tie rods, window regulators, wiper transmissions, etc., etc.
-Body work is expensive, because it takes TIME. And, those little parts like the shifter boot housing gasket are sometimes hard to find. Robby and Matt might have some kind of deal going, because of their respective RUclips channels and proximity to each other - that's their business, but for the average Joe that walks in and wants a complete frame-off resto done on his 1970 Chevelle SS 454, it'll cost him tens of thousands of dollars. When you see that car go for $100,000 ( or whatever, I'm guessing here folks) on Mecum's Auction, it's because of the time involved. And, because Boomers - like me, lol - have driven up the demand for such cars trying to relive their younger years!
Good job Robby & Gang.
It's primarily from boomers and people seeing cars purely as investments. It's part of the reason why resto's cost so much these days, which drives the price up, which drives the cost of parts up, which drives the cost of resto up...and the more something costs, the more the buyers turn into investors rather than enthusiasts.
This is an excellent reply. I wasnt overly concerned with the cost of the project, but you got my brain going. It really goes to show how much each guy relies on and cares for their tools.
That is absolutely next level. That’s a Barrett Jackson level tear down and spray. Well done and hats off.
I hope that all of you out there searching for meaningful things receive them this new year! Happy New Year 💙
Young man I’ve been in business for 32 years and I started out just like you. You’ve got a skill set and you’re exploiting it. A lot of people in your generation are incapable of doing what you are doing and it’s awesome to see you succeed.
It was a lot easier back then because things could been done on a handshake, not so much nowadays.
I’m a firm believer in mentoring and I can see you’ve had somebody with a lot of influence in your life and you should be very thankful.
Here darn here! Such skill!
I mean... A lot of people in your generation were and still are incapable of doing what he is doing, too. It was a special set of skills then, and it's still a special set of skills. In all fairness, there are ten times the auto-hobbyists now then there were 30 years ago and they're all over RUclips. The general population always has and always will be generally talentless and expendable, so I'm not sure why age has to come into anything. Robby is awesome, has nothing to do with generation.

I love the “bucket” seat!
Just found your channel. I worked in a body shop back in the 60's. I am anxious to see you rebuild a total wreck. We did that once with a 68 Lincoln Marquee. We cut it in half and replaced the entire rear behind the front seat. The car was new and totaled moments after he left the dealership. Car had under 50 miles on it. Things have changed a lot since those days. Fun to watch you and your shop perform miracles.
The quality of this job is going to be way above and beyond Matt's expectations!! Great job!
I agree! Matt is such a great guy, he deserves this. He gives so much to his employees, customers and his community. Thanks guys for undertaking this Banana peel 😉

Fricken great additive to my Sunday morning coffee !!! It's a lot of fun to see The Banana get treated so well..... I have feeling that Matt may not treat it so well 😂..... But heck yeah! Shop tour, tricky body work tricks, sheet metal crafting, always some XJ offroad..... its all good viewing pleasure! 👌
There's a lot of body men out there but very few with the expertise of Robby. Amazing work!
Who ever thought body work could be so entertaining? Good work crew!
The body work has nothing to do with it, these guys are just entertaining! 🤣😜
You do amazing work. I would like to see a shop tour and introduction of your staff. Keep it up.
That was a caring touch to peel the roof off the banana and add those welds that Matt missed on the roll cage.
I noticed the custom paint color, Banana Yellow, looks very close to the formula for a Yellow Submarine!
If I lived there and needed anything painted, I know where I would go! Absolutely fantastic.
I 'm glad you decided to paint the Banana on your RUclips site as I probably would not have found your channel otherwise. The personalities of everyone in your shop makes viewing very enjoyable and I look forward to seeing more.
Would be nice to see the whole crew and get a look at the shop.
Really love the fun energy in this and the dad jokes too. Amazing to see all that's in this.

I know absolutely nothing about body work so your info has been both entertaining and educational, it surely looks great but from what I am picking up it is the amount of prep work that determines the beauty of the end product! You guys really have done a ton of work. I think it will be exactly what Matt and his team needs! Keep on keeping on!
Yep bodywork is 90% prep, final painting is really quick.
I love the pride you take in your work! Can’t wait to see this thing finished.
Team Robby, is going to be legend. Exceptional knowledge and talent.
I appreciate the look into a real modern body shop I always enjoy learning
Love how you guys all work together and still have fun. You are showing why it costs so much for a good body and paint job with all the little details. Good job.
the trifecta crew plus heavyD all showing how great this state is.. I love Utah, been all over the US but Utah is my home. Keep up the good stuff Robby.
The amount of specialty tools in your shop is mind boggling. Can't get enough of watching these kind of videos.
You guys really have a strange sense of humor at times. And what's scary, is that I'm getting used to it LOL. You're doing a great job on the Banana.
He needs to learn about humor , when to use it or not . Lately it seems he's trying more humor ,to me less desirable to watch . Just turn the volume down .
I thought the puns were a bit much at first(with their first banana vid) but now I love it!

T'is great stuff to watch. How the technology has changed since I was a youngster60 years back. My Dad was a body man and I used to go watch him back in the day! He would be amazed at the work your shop does. Oh.... We will watch your channel after Matt's banana is finished. For sure! Thanks for the great vids and the improv humor... a joy to watch! Greetings from Southern Nova Scotia in Eastern Canada!
Nothing as therapeutic as a better than new restoration
Watching you guys work is very entertaining. Watching a persons expertise on display is awesome. Taking an older vrhicle like that, stripping it down to its bare bones, fixing all the tedious repairs and making it look good is an accomplishment. Body work is something I wish I could do. Id love to be able to do restorations but not like classic cars where every detail can cost the car half its value. But work on your own stuff would be fun.
Looks like the best place to work. Just enough shenanigan's to make it fun. I will say they will be so happy when they see the product you put out. I know he already knows it will be great, thats why he brought it to you in the first place. Awesome job. Can't wait to see it totally done.
I am deeply impressed, this is way way beyond regular paint shop skills. Regards from Germany.
So glad to see people having a good time and doing it right thank you fun to watch
The affect clearcoat has on the paint's appearance is drastic.
I'm going to paint the pinch welds under the doors on my Tacoma and I'm getting some good information on tape and prep. I appreciate it, Robby.
Be careful on that Tacoma pinch weld they have a ton of gravel guard from factory depending on year so yes prep is key to long lasting paint work good luck!!
I would love to see a collab between Matt, Robby, Fab Rats, Vice Grip and Junkyard Digs. That would be the ultimate collab of RUclipsrs! It’s coming along great.

I’ve only recently started watching the channel and keep waiting for an older guy to come in and tell you off because there the boss 🤣 as I can’t believe someone as young as you is the boss ! I must admit I’m not in the trade but I’m impressed ❤️
Banana is beautiful! Doing a awesome job!
thorough & entertaining as you peel & paint the the Banana!! Great job Robby
It’s so awesome seeing the process in detail!
It is amazing what can be done with body work! I recently had this local super dyno-whoppin' shop paint my 26-year-old car. They matched that paint exactly! Unbelievable! Great video!
Mine, too. 1984 Supra. Perfect paint color match and perfect clear coat + the side pin stripe was re done.AMAZING! Took 3 weeks.
Love the yellow shirt for the thumbnail. Btw your shop tools are amazing. Never knew that bodywork could be so high tech. I guess I’ve been living under a rock for decades.
Yes, I whistled along. And I will keep watching. Cheers!
Robby, U and your crew go together like a “hand N glove” perfection professionals 👍
awesome seeing the collaboration between the Shops... amazing to se the master artistry at work
I personally will still be watching after the Banana is gone. You and your crew are a lot of fun and I've learned new things. The care y'all give to your work makes it more than worth the watch.
Hi! I’m a 72 year old fixer of things, my first trade was auto painter, I was schooled by my dad in the 60s. I love to watch you guys work and I learn something new every time I watch.
This was awesome! Thank you so much Robby. I think the Banana needs your logo etched on the roll cage somewhere. You should do one episode where you find alternative uses for your body shop tools while also attemping to explain what they're actually for.
Have Michelle explain what the tools are.
THAT would be hilarious! Michelle does ok with Paul's stuff but wouldn't have a CLUE in your shop!
Ear plugs...eye protection...respirators...you will be thankful in your later years, that you used them in your younger years. Just ask anyone older than 60 who worked in noisy, dirty environments and didn't use them...you may have to ask them twice because they didn't realize you were talking to them the 1st time. Thank your wife. She's a keeper!
Robby Layton videos are always fun. So if you're having a bad day watch some Robby Layton videos and your Day will get better
It’s so satisfying to watch the advances in body work done by someone I’d have work on my car. The technology has come a long way since my Dad and I were restoring antique cars in the 70’s and 80’s. Soooooo well done!
I'm staying after the banana 🍌 is done. Your crew is F-ing hilarious.
So am I, I came here because of mat and will be staying afterwards ❤️
Robby reminds me of John C Reilly when he played Dewey Cox
I totally agree.
Agree!
I don't think Robby had alot of recent activity on his channel before the banana. Looking at his video history he's made 7 videos pre-banana in the last month, before that it'd been dead for 2 years. He's definitely got the right idea of bolstering his channel with the banana to build viewership. Not trying to hate I just think it was smart of him to get in on the action now that he's making more videos.
It is amazing the amount of patience to detail you guys have. I can't imagine the cringe you will feel every time Matt &/or crew take it off road. Great videos - thanks for taking the time and effort to provide a different type of high quality product.

Awesome video Robby!!! I absolutely love all your content and no I won’t quit watching your videos once you are done with the banana or the golden nugget!! I will definitely keep watching your videos!! I actually have a 1969 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 that is getting pretty close for the body work and the paint!! I absolutely love your work that you do for sure!! I mean really I didn’t expect how much that you tour the banana apart to get it painted!! All the detail that you put into the banana is just amazing!! That’s the kind of work that I want my 1969 Chevy 1Ton done to!! Here in Iowa I definitely don’t no of a shop that does that kind of quality work!! I might have to get ahold of you and see what it would cost me to have my 1969 Chevy done??? I’m definitely not a paint or body guy but definitely want my truck done Wright!! I’ve had it ever since high school 1997 and keep working on it here and there!!!

Fascinating, and really interesting. I'll never need to paint a whole vehicle myself, but I am still learning tips and tricks that are going to come in useful. I actually do have a lot of the tools you used and have used die grinders in my 40 years as a toolmaker, but there are always new things to learn. I will definitely keep watching after Matt's Jeep is finished. I hope he appreciates what a Stella job you guys are doing for him.
Mad skills on display! Great work fellas, thanks for sharing!
This was so much fun! Keep the goofiness coming. Lots of guys are working on cars but your silliness made this even more fun. 👍👍
That was entertaining. Nice to see people enjoy their work and have fun.
I don't think folks realize just how rare a shop is that cares like you seem to. I'm fortunate enough to have a friend that looks at the business like you. He is smaller so you have more "toys" but, like you, when he is finished it's perfect. He's not so sure how much longer he will be able to stand the influx of "cheap ass" (his words) insurance companies and shops that do subpar work and underbid him. So far though he is hanging in there.
I met him when I installed marine electronics on one of his customers boats. He looked at my install and liked the attention to detail and asked the guy who I was. About a year later a friend of mine needed some body work done and I gave him a ride to the shop that did the body work. The shop owner and I started talking and realized what the situation was.... we now are friends and his skills, like yours, amaze me.
Certainly getting it done. I actually started following for the Golden Nugget build. So I'll stick around for that one. 😆 Good job fellas.
I'm impressed by the quality of your work. Clearly, you've learned from the best! 👍
I see you’re a man of culture Robby, that little Theo down under hitter didn’t go unnoticed.

You and your team are awesome and very skilled pros that know that humor is a very necessary component as well. Really enjoying the content and look forward to seeing the New Banana.
I love and deeply admire your obsessed attention to detail, your craftsmanship and your very high quality work. This job reminds me of some of the paint and body work my younger (now deceased) brother and I did in high school. The tools sure have changed in 50 years. One of my favs was a Jeep CJ hardtop with major body damage by the prior owner (dad called them whiskey scars). We repaired and painted every square inch inside and out with the top being white inside and out. It looked beautiful. Everyone asked about our “brand new” Jeep and if we would sell it. Yep, dad sold it and got us another one to work on.
You guys are having way to much fun. Looks like a great place to work. Matt sure picked the right one.....
When the golden nugget comes in, you should paint it the same shade of yellow
Yes the same.
Wow! Does that look good! Never knew how much attention to detail or work went into body work & paint!
