    I think where Miranda was headed with playing Devil’s advocate was right on the money. I don’t think kids should be treated the way Raven and the boys were describing how they were treated. But I also don’t think they should be coddled the way Raven described experiences with child actors today. A balance is needed. The mentality of well this is how I was treated and I’m fine so it’s ok for you is so toxic!! Raven and the boys are in a small minority of child stars who survived and have found success as adults. Maybe treating kids the way the system used to is part of why we saw so many child stars go down a dark path.

    • @Damien832
      @Damien832 Год назад +13

      Yeah I also agree with you as well! I feel that she is trying to push how she use to be treated on the new generation of kids today and that’s not right obviously because she literally as a multitude of issues herself from what the industry put her through.

    • @mocasoul
      @mocasoul Год назад +14

      I agree. I don't know if a lot of what they say is true or exaggerated about how children are treated in the industry today...but I see nothing wrong with acknowleging child actors mental health. I think they need to talk to non-child actors to hear themselves because a lot of their experiences are trauma dump🚩🚩🚩. Also...a lot of this "young people don't want to work" stuff is played out. They do....they just want to end up like a lot of us...our labor exploited without living wages now matter what job/career they are in.

    When Raven mentioned that because she has mental health issues from what she went through and others these days shouldn't protect their mental health, it is such a conservative/neoliberal talking point. I believe we should be here to prevent others from unaliving themselves (Jonathan Brandis comes to mind every time I hear about these things because he obviously didn't have anyone to talk to about it).
    Two types of people in this world:
    1.) Those who went through effed up experiences and expect others to do the same. If you went through those experiences and are okay with others doing the same, you're not actually okay.
    2.) They went through the experience and will fight to make sure that others don't have to go through it.
    Many more people are realizing that just because someone forced them to be here doesn't mean they have to do the same. It's not required to procreate just because others do it.

    I appreciate Miranda playing devil’s advocate a little bit and asking the good questions.
    So far this if already an amazing episode. Sports wise, my boyfriend does the comparison. And he said there are so many professional players or up and coming players who didn’t become great because they didn’t take enough time to recover from injuries and hurt themselves permanently. He said the rest is part of the success.
    The problem with the “make it or break it” attitude is that some people break.
    I always thought I could do anything because I could put in the work. Until I had an actual break down/burn out. I didn’t realize it was a thing. I probably would have been homeless if I didn’t have support or savings. It gave me a real appreciation for mental health and putting health first. I couldn’t do it all and I was going to break myself or die if I kept trying. It took about 1.5 years until I could work full time again (happened around 36). I’m better, but careful not to put myself in that position again.
    All just good for thought. All about finding a balance

      I agree. I love them with my whole, whole heart...but sometimes the things they say about working as child actors makes me 😬. A lot of that stuff and pressure back then was NOT okay to do to CHILDREN. And everytime they talk about child actors today I cringe because I'm like, "You were robbed of your childhood...you don't have to rob others of theirs." Yes, child actors have a job to do, but they are also children. I don't think it's coddling when you consider the mental and emotional health of child actors. They are already doing something most children never experience until they are older, and that's working or having a job. At least let them be kids while they're doing it. Just my opinion....🤷🏿‍♀️

    FYI when they were talking about neurodivergent and fidget Spinners and things like that just you should know those are created for autistic and severe ADHD. For the autistic it brings them out of their internal world into the outside world and therefore they are able to connect and be more present when you speak to them. With ADHD it gives them something to expel that internal unlimited energy and so while the one hand is messing with that they can focus their mind on what you're saying. So it's not just a way of them having something to ignore you it actually does help certain people focus. Now being neurodivergent is a thing but I think it does get used as an excuse to medicate some children that don't really need it. Like some kind if bandaid for difficult or intense children instead of parenting and support, let's medicate the problem cause that's easier. As a parent myself, I would rather talk to my kid about what the problem is and help her find solutions, instead of just take a pill. I think parents and families need to get back to acting like human beings instead of using pharma shortcuts, because to me that's irresponsible and lazy. Now I do 100% agree that there are legitimate diagnosis' and some who need medication. I just think sometimes, meds aren't the cure all. Even with meds you still should have support and understanding from family, friends, and especially parents.

    The only thing I’ll say is the mindset should move a little bit more…. Essential jobs and people are always needed. The difference is willingness to work for below poverty wages.
    Working for $12-17/hour isn’t nearly enough and that’s sadly what most jobs are paying…
    I don’t think jobs are below people anymore, I think it’s that wages have stayed nearly the same and everything else is raising in price..
    Company profits need redirected into employees pay little bit more than it has the past 50 years

    So basically an hour of celebrities complaining about mental health being fake basically while Raven and Miranda preach mental health on their own podcast? I'm only 7 minutes in and I can't even finish. Sorry ya'll grew up during a time no one cared about you but you don't need to knock how we take it serious NOW...

      I don't think they are aware of how much harm the way they treated as kids was done to them. I may have to stop listening/watching this podcast because....yikes😬 the podcast started out fun and light but have morfed into a "get off my lawn" thing.

    Every episode that the Lawerance brothers do it turns out really incredible!! My family really enjoyed this episode with Raven and Miranda. I’m always so amazed how the topics they talk about it’s so true and understanding it’s always straight to the point and so right on point 💯 thank you guys for doing this podcast and I’m so incredibly thankful for you all. What an wonderful Friday ❤

    Although its a pretty poorly conducted interview, I loved the moment Raven actually had to speak about her experience. Similar to a lot of others in the comments, I don't agree that just because they "had it rough" growing up in the industry that everyone should be treated how they were as kids. SO FEW child actors from the 80s/90s are still in the industry (some fell down a dark path and are no longer with us). I also don't agree in folks being coddled, not putting in effort, and not holding up their end of commitments because at the end of the day it shows in the quality of the content if the actors weren't diligent in preparing for their role. It has to be a balance.

      Yep. It was so disheartening to hear. Just because they had it rough doesn’t mean todays generation should as well. We should all things to be better with each passing day for the next generations.

      Makes me wonder how many of their childhood actor friends they got to see struggle with addiction or depression. How many struggle to this day with so many things. Sounding bitter towards treating kids like kids is not a great look. Not every kid was able to have a support system to keep he/her out of trouble.

    Absolutely LOVED this!!! THIS is what we need to see with Raven and the Beothers. RA-VEN, RA-VEN!! I appreciate everyone including Raven's wife, Miranda. It made for a slightly challenging smooth chat bc its life having a High School reunion with your spouse there who doesnt know any of that time period and like 😶 and so it kind of changes the conversation or atmosphere. BUT everyone did a great job listening and including.
    What I'd like to see is Miranda be interviewed SOLO so the audience can get to know HER. Right now shes just a package deal with Raven. If shes going to be tagging along for things the fans only know Raven for and only are interested in Raven, as a HUGE Raven fan I truly would like to learn more about Miranda so she's part of the experience instead of just "there" and the audience is 😳🤔.
