Greed and nobody bought the games. Everyone now talks about how great the saturn is yet nobody was actually supporting it back in the day. That guys right, most games were thrown out, shipped back to sega for future credit, etc. There is no US saturn game with less then 150k print run no matter what any youtuber says.whats actually out there in the wild is another story but these games were made to sell. @@polygonlegends
Being a high school student back then, I tried to buy as much as I possibly could just slightly before the famous 9-9-1999. Exactly Warren Buffett strategy, when everyone flocked to PSOne and N64, people thought I was insane picking up Saturn games at discounted bargain bin prices.
When my team and I released the fan translation patch for bulk slash on Saturn we saw a 30% jump in price on the second hand market make it hit near $200
Hi Chan! Thanks for checking out my channel 😄 That's incredible how the price jumped! This is proof that fan translations create awareness of games. I will add Bulk Slash to the list of my personal "must play" Saturn games. Thank You!
Fun fact for those of you who modern gamers who want an affordable physical copy of the first “Panzer Dragoon” game. I randomly found one at a Best Buy like 6-8 months ago path a “19.99” rapper on it for the PS4. I nabbed it immediately. I noticed on the spine it had “Limited Run’s early insignia numbers on it so we all know where this gem came from. This might convince them to make physicals of the sequel & the RPG spin-off “Saga” (which is far more expensive of the 3).
Hey, Serge thanks for the sub, I’ve been subscribed to you since your Polymega Review. Anyway keep up the great work, I hope you do content on other consoles like the 7th gen.
Thank you so much Captain Amaris! I feel like the 7th generations is truly special as well! So many great games and genre's were developed! I'll start thinking about that.
Well, at least House of the Dead has a PC port... Contra: Legacy of War, and BattleSport both have the PS1 release. And Mega Man 8 on the Saturn has the extra stuff that the PS1 version doesn't have - and that's Cut Man and Wood Man in the Duo's stage and Search Man's stage respectively.
I recently found my Saturn games, including a copy of Burning Rangers. I thought about selling it but then had second thoughts. I wish I owned a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. The unique hardware design makes it very unlikely that those games will ever be ported to another system.
@@polygonlegends The story and boss battles are cool but what I remember best is the atmosphere of the main levels and the feeling that the fire could change any room.
I ended up getting the repo of Saga because of the price lol. In not so depressing prices alot of games have the alternative of the Japanese release for much lower $$. Nice video.
Most are still pretty cheap in Japan so I guess releases were rarer there. Oh and Battlesport on 3DO is a masterpiece and hope the Saturn one is just as good...
Hey Trev! Very interesting... The Last Dynasty never got an official release here in the states, I think an official original copy from the developers could be very valuable. Normally I'm against getting games graded, but something like this is very special and I think it would be worth it in this case.
@@polygonlegends Thanks a million. Do you happen to know a place in Europe or US that does this grading? Keep the videos coming they remind me of special times.
Easily my best pawn store find, I bought a Sega Saturn with a CD wallet full of games around 2003ish for about $100, inside the wallet was all the Sega arcade standards, D, Iron Storm, and Dragon Force I still have the games but sadly that Saturn's cart slot just didn't work.
Yeah that’s retro gaming. I am a specialist on Sega and the Saturn . There is rare and insanely rare. Rare is like Taromaru and insanely rare is the Japanese version of Scorcher ( there isn’t even a dump of this one). Then the 🇺🇸 and European version are in a completely different category. The rarest is Daytona netlink version. I love the Saturn ❤
Interesting. I have Taromaru, but I didn't know anything about Scorcher. I'll have to check it out for curiosity's sake. I was aware of that Japanese delivery game though (I forgot the name of it) that was given to contestants on that Japanese game show. It's crazy expensive when one rarely pops up.
It's so sad to see how much price have gone mad... Not couting game i got new in the 90s, i never put more than 50/60 €/$ in a game (49$ for Sega Ages Volume 1) and will never do (probably ;). Too bad, i'll never get banger such as Panzer Dragoon Saga, Keio Flying Squadron 2, Burning Rangers, Bomberman... But at least, there are still plenty of good games at reasonable prices, starting with Sega Rally Championship, Tomb Raider, Athlete Kings,... Yoh, who luckily got his favorite game new at the time: Dragon Force (which otherwise would currently cost him more than $200 :( ).
*laughs in emulation* For real though I wish I could collect Saturn as I love the experiences I've had there (Saga, Magic Knight Rayearth, Astal etc) but I'm just priced out of the market.
ı think 2d games prices going up. bcouse of saturn 2d power house usa fans claim. some 3d games like stealler assoult ss expensive but most of 3d ones not expensive. usa and japan games expensive mostly the eu ones cheap. they were very cheap 5 years before of course now not that cheap.
OH I played it, in fact the footage that you see in the video is of me playing it. You are right, it clearly isn't a space station. I'm not sure why I said that. Especially after hearing it over dozens of times as I added in my B roll and made trims. One of those late nights. Another lesson for me to learn. Don't rush through your videos, wait a whole day before uploading and watch it again it with a fresh mind. That's what I'll do.
As somebody who worked at a distributor who was contracted by SOA, I can say with full confidence there's no such thing as a limited print run game.
Good to know, I'm curious if its not lack of copies being made, what could be driving the prices up? Could it be greed?

You made the right decision by keeping Burning Rangers. I’m curious about what your favorite part of the game is.
@@polygonlegends The story and boss battles are cool but what I remember best is the atmosphere of the main levels and the feeling that the fire could change any room.
I was going to buy a Saturn and was like guess Ill never play it. The console is super expensive too.
If you do get one, I recommend getting a flash cart for it.
I ended up getting the repo of Saga because of the price lol. In not so depressing prices alot of games have the alternative of the Japanese release for much lower $$. Nice video.
At this point I have the Saroo but it has some compatability issues.
I'm quite happy to own an European copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga 😛
That’s wonderful!
I already had a copies of House of the Dead and Panzer Dragoon Saga. Toys R' Us was clearing them out for $20.
That is awesome! I would have bought all the copies of them!

Not a Saturn game, but playing lucky and wild was awesome.
Hey Kenny! Some good memories right there with Lucky and Wild! I loved that game. I think we had it when Aladdin's Castle was around!
I have a game called The Last Dynasty, a rare official original printed copy. I wonder if this game would make the same list?

I reread it and you did specifically say "Japanese version". I have seen gameplay of this game before.
@ I know a guy who has the Japanese version of Scorcher but he doesn’t want to share the dump 🫤
I picked a terrible year to get into Saturn collecting…
