VIDEO GAME HISTORY 101: The Birth of video games
Most expensive Saturn game I bought was Ninpen Manmaru (a strange early 3D platformer with polarizing controls), about $65 which is actually a steal compared to how much it typically sells for (250-260). Now I just use a Pseudo Kai cart and burned CD's
Sega Rally Championship was my favorite, but I also loved Tomb Raider
*laughs in no games*
oh hell yea, this came up in my search results while looking up segata sanshiro
I’m happy I got my console before the Saroo hype
I got this but from Aliexpress to reshell my Japanese N64. I love it. I left the original black feet on mine, thought it set it off a bit better, I dunno. You should try a Summercart 64 if you haven't already!
I think I’ll pick one up! Thanks for the tip!
Looking forward to trying. I have a modified U.S. Saturn that can play all-region burned discs, but the drive failed a few months ago and I haven't had a chance to try to repair / replace. Hoping this thing works despite the mods I've done.
Sorry to hear that! As our consoles get older, issues are bound to come up. I hope you get a Saroo! You may have to tinker with it a little but you won’t regret it! There are a few other options with higher compatibility rate like satiator but for the price, you can’t beat the Saroo!
Yes, I am going to get one Number one how much does it cost and Question number two where do I get one
Good to hear!! Look up their website polymega.com it’s selling for around $550. I think there might be a weight at this time, but it should still be able to order it. It might take a while to get though.
I have panzer i have a whole tupperware bin full of saturne games
I love it!
I've owned a Saturn ever since Night Warriors came out in '96. It's a monster of a system for great arcade ports from Capcom and Sega themselves. I'm glad that (30 years later) it gets the love it has deserved this whole time.
Hey Serge, congrats on hitting 1K subs!! So happy for you man. Keep up the great work! It's awesome to see small channels grow. Looking forward to seeing all the great videos you're gonna release this year. Cheers ;)
Thanks pal, I Appreciate it!!
Kind of painfull to see all the dust left behind on the console, but the end result was great and the shell looks hi quality 👍
I did hit it with my air can, but got a little lazy hehe. I'll try to be more meticulous in the future.
I recently started using my 1996 EU Saturn and i love it. Only major problem i'm having is with the fact my Saroo is giving me hard times and in most cases it can be accessed after taking it out and inserting in few times + turning on and off. It's a pleasure to see how this console is getting the place it deserved. Back then i had only Virtua Fighter 1, 2 (best titles ever..), Sega Rally and Panzer Dragon but between graduating from high school and games being expensive and rare it felt like i missed out on this one... Now it's time to catch up : )
Yes my friend, it certainly is time to catch up! I have the same issues with the Saroo, it isn't perfect it mainly works. Hopefully with more updates, we will see better compatability.
Overpriced for software emulation
The price is certainly a sticking point.
I am worried about it not having bluetooth. Like how are you able to play n64 games on a modern controller with 4 players? Would be nice to have bluetooth, be able to transfer your games from the storage device and save them through cloud storage, and be able to record and stream video on the system. At least 1 hr to 2 hr video.
I agree, that would be nice.
Agreed, Saroo ROCKS 🪨
How do I get back to SAROO game menu without resetting the Saturn?
While in a game, press "Start" + "A" + "B" + "C" simultaneously, which will bring you back to the Saturn CD player screen; from there, press "Start" again to access the SAROO menu itself.
@@polygonlegends Will try thanks a lot!
Hopefully in the future! Polymega will allow you to plays 3DO, CD-i and Jaguar CD games
That would be amazing!
I loved my Saturn back in the 90's. Recently got another system and repaired it with a new PSU board. Bought a few games and an action replay cart for Japanese imports.
Very nice!! I hope you're enjoying your Saturn!
I own one of those you have to press the rest switch after the game is inserted
ruclips.net/video/Rm1kVVYE4bg/видео.htmlsi=TbBBqveUs28G68fP
oh wow!
I NEED this. Sega Saturn is the coolest console ever!
The Saroo has been a gamechanger for me! I should def get one
I wish you could talk more about ff14 tho. How far are you btw?
There is sooo much to talk about with FF14! Let's see I've been mainly doing the main quests and I'm level 31 galdiator. Tomorrow I think I can go Paladin. Other than that I'm still exploring the world and working on my hunting logs. I'll definitely make more videos on this amazing game in the future.
I bought a polymega nearly a year ago and just last month bought the ultra module after the long awaited 1.1.32 firmware was released. Got over 700 games installed and counting. I love my PM and i'm looking forward to future modules. :)
I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying your system so much! It's such a cool piece of hardware. I too have the ultra module but have not tried it out yet. I plan to this week!
@@polygonlegends It's really good! I had to pick up a copy of clayfighter 63 1/3 lol. One of my childhood favs & guilty pleasures.
I fucked up my back pretty bad back in February. Since then I've been out of work while I have went thru various means of healing and now I'm awaiting surgery. The one good thing to come from this is that I've been able to knock out a lot of games in Steam backlog. Several of which are on your list here lol As for Borderlands 3 I agree 💯. While the main story was nowhere near as great as 2, it was still decent enough. The DLC stories were great though. The more up-to-date controls feel way better than the floaty feel of BD2.
First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your back, that sounds really rough. I hope you find relief through your upcoming surgery. I'm glad to hear we've been playing the same games, I'm sure there are more of us out there! As far as the story goes, I know it's not the greatest story ever told hehe but I also enjoyed it enough! If you like strategy/building games, I highly suggest getting Anno 1800. That game will totally make you forget about your back!
@@polygonlegends thanks for the well wishes. Hopefully my insurance company approved my surgery soon. I've done everything that one can do short of having surgery to no avail. So fingers crossed they just approve the surgery so I can move on with my life. Anyhow I'd totally be down for Anno 1800. I've also wanted to give Frostpunk 2 a try even though I know they are quite a bit different. Always dug world builder type games. Think the first game I played like that was Theme Park on the Sega Genesis. Out of curiosity have you played Anno 1800 on the Steamdeck or any similar handheld? If so how was the experience? Most of my gaming in the near future will be in bed via my Steamdeck.
Ofc! I have not played with a steam deck so I have no idea how Anno would play on it. I’m sure it will be fine though. I hope they approve your surgery and wish you well On your road to recovery!
@@polygonlegends well worst case scenario there's always remote play. The games that the Steamdeck either can't play or look unacceptable because it's not powerful enough, I've just played via remote play. I have a fairly good network at my house and I'm fortunate enough to live in an area where ATT has awesome 5G.
Dude, the Sega Saturn was NOT the holy grail during the 90s. If you lived in the west, it was seen as a failure because, well, it was. The holy “holy grail” thing didn’t happen until YEARS later with insane resellers getting into the FOMO hype of low supply.
I agree that its looked at as a holy grail item now due to supply and demand but you can actually pick up a complete in Box Saturn from Japan relatively cheap these days. Sega def dropped the ball with the Saturn. Not sure what they were thinking when they dropped the 32x. I think that burned a lot of people back then.
@ Well yeah, you can do that in Japan because it wasn’t the massive flop it was in the West (which is why I clarified that). And just to be clear, I do think the Saturn has some solid titles… but I also think it failed for a reason. If the software had been stronger (and, specifically in the west, people were more open to 32bit 2D masterpieces) I think it would have done fine. But you are right. SOJ and SOA were on different fucking planets. They could not find a solid business plan to follow together… so instead they followed their company off a cliff. Sega is easily one of the most fascinating companies in the history of video games, both from an accomplishment standpoint and failure. No one did it quite like Sega.
Borderlands 3 is awful. I mean its gameplay is actually fun for the most part, but the story is so bad and it makes itself impossible to tune out. It also ruins characters like Vaughn and Rhys by throwing away all their character development from Tales from the Borderlands, reducing them to joke characters. And, being a series known for its humor, Borderlands 3 is painfully unfunny. Legendary weapons are so common that they aren't even special. In previous games, legendary weapons were rare and usually had some cool gimmicks that made them worth hunting for. But in Borderlands 3 I swear, I started a new save with Amara and I had an inventory full of legendary guns before I even made it off of Pandora. And it feels like, to balance how common they are, most of their gimmicks are useless. It's not a good game, and the majority of the fan base echoes this. Most people will agree that the gameplay is all that's good about it. I'll be generous and say all of its DLC campaigns are actually pretty good. But, of course, that means spending more money. But if somebody says it's their favorite game ever, more power to them, I guess.
Thanks for sharing such a detailed take! You make some really interesting points, especially about the legendary weapons - that's actually something I've been thinking about too. The shift from rare to common legendaries definitely changed the 'thrill of the hunt' from earlier games. And you're right about the DLC campaigns being strong! I found myself focusing more on the improved gunplay and movement mechanics.
I still have my original working Saturn I bought in 1996. I used to have a bunch of games Resident Evil, D, House of the Dead, Bug, Madden 97, World Wide Soccer 97 and 98, Bug, Corpse Killer, Black Fire, Fighters Megamix,.Virtual Fighter 2, Battle Arena Toshinden 3 URA, Cyber Speedway, Sega Rally Championship, Christmas Nights, Duke Nukem 3D, Diehard Trilogy, Wrestlemania Arcade Game, Lost World Jurassic Park, Nights, Revolution X, Virtual On. Between moving out after high school and my brother being sloppy and messy all the games gradually disappeared. I don't even know how they got lost. Now i've bought some games back Fighters Megamix, Virtual Fighter 2 and Nights.
Wow, that's quite an impressive list of titles that you owned at one point! Sorry to hear about your brother not taking care of the games, that's a cardinal sin! I'm glad to hear that you're slowly building back your collection! I hope you keep it up!
Great video and I’m happy to introduced u to a long time game of mine.. I added another one to ur list hehe First Descendant 🤭
Yes you did, I appreciate you 😻
How could I forget to mention First Descendant?! I need to play that one more hehe
Sonic Xtreme look like using the night into the dream 3d engine
It does, right? I wish sonic X-treme was more fleshed all. All you can do is run around in a small world. I guess it was a proof of concept type thing.
I loved Mortal Kombat when I was kid but never noticed about the changes on what they did on Nintendo version lol I mostly played at arcades for MK hehe.. Surprisingly I never heard of that game Manhunt, very disturbing. I never played GTA but I will give it a try next year on their new release. Great video love it! Love my character being in the video too *giggles* :)
GTA is one of my fav series and you should def give it a try!
just sub to you ;]
I love the option of buying a saroo but isnt that gonna just make our physical games redundant? I own 18 and kinda hate the idea of not having to put the discs in again 😅
You'll have to pry my physical copies out of my cold dead hands! haha. The Saroo makes it convenient but also you can play translated games and unreleased prototypes for Sega Sataurn with it! It's a great tool to add to your Saturn kit.
"Video games bad" but are government will go to your highschool and influence young 16/17 year olds to join the army at 18!! What???🤦
Truth, my friend!
I laughed out loud at that 1992 bit, before seeing the comment about it being wrong.
Yeah, that's what happens when I don't check my work after I export the video. Lesson learned! Ridiculous mistake.
You’re really cute. 🎮🤓
Thank You! I use Herbal Essences in the shower.
I picked a terrible year to get into Saturn collecting…
Well, at least we are ahead of the people who are going to start next year! haha.
CORRECTION: No Man's Sky was released in 2017, not 1992. My bad for not catching that in the graphics!
Fun fact for those of you who modern gamers who want an affordable physical copy of the first “Panzer Dragoon” game. I randomly found one at a Best Buy like 6-8 months ago path a “19.99” rapper on it for the PS4. I nabbed it immediately. I noticed on the spine it had “Limited Run’s early insignia numbers on it so we all know where this gem came from. This might convince them to make physicals of the sequel & the RPG spin-off “Saga” (which is far more expensive of the 3).
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to run out and see if I can grab a copy.
didn't this thing show up busted out of box?
It did. I was heartbroken for sure. I contacted Playmaji and they quickly fixed it for me. I had it back in about 10 days.
I was going to buy a Saturn and was like guess Ill never play it. The console is super expensive too.
If you do get one, I recommend getting a flash cart for it.
As somebody who worked at a distributor who was contracted by SOA, I can say with full confidence there's no such thing as a limited print run game.
Good to know, I'm curious if its not lack of copies being made, what could be driving the prices up? Could it be greed?
Greed and nobody bought the games. Everyone now talks about how great the saturn is yet nobody was actually supporting it back in the day. That guys right, most games were thrown out, shipped back to sega for future credit, etc. There is no US saturn game with less then 150k print run no matter what any youtuber says.whats actually out there in the wild is another story but these games were made to sell. @@polygonlegends
congrats man :)
Really appreciate it! 😄
Definitely thinking about getting this one! How cool would it be if we can play Golden Eye online??
You should preorder one! We can play goldeneye together! That would be pretty cool!
Hey, Serge thanks for the sub, I’ve been subscribed to you since your Polymega Review. Anyway keep up the great work, I hope you do content on other consoles like the 7th gen.
Thank you so much Captain Amaris! I feel like the 7th generations is truly special as well! So many great games and genre's were developed! I'll start thinking about that.
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
🎉 Congrats! Can’t wait for what’s to come.
You clearly haven't played these. Lunacy has nothing to do with a space station at all.
OH I played it, in fact the footage that you see in the video is of me playing it. You are right, it clearly isn't a space station. I'm not sure why I said that. Especially after hearing it over dozens of times as I added in my B roll and made trims. One of those late nights. Another lesson for me to learn. Don't rush through your videos, wait a whole day before uploading and watch it again it with a fresh mind. That's what I'll do.
Well, at least House of the Dead has a PC port... Contra: Legacy of War, and BattleSport both have the PS1 release. And Mega Man 8 on the Saturn has the extra stuff that the PS1 version doesn't have - and that's Cut Man and Wood Man in the Duo's stage and Search Man's stage respectively.
Most are still pretty cheap in Japan so I guess releases were rarer there. Oh and Battlesport on 3DO is a masterpiece and hope the Saturn one is just as good...
Do the games come with it
Yes!
that's what i was wondering cause I'm tech illiterate and would never know how to put games on it
The games come with it
