It was a birthday party with a difference in Taiwan as Taipei Zoo celebrated the first birthday of Yuan Zai the giant panda. Visitors gathered early in the morning to see the year-old female, who had a traditional celebration of 'drawing lots' set up for her by the zoo keepers. She was also given a special birthday cake made from her favourite foods, including bamboo, apples, carrots and pineapples. According to Taipei zoo, the panda cub has attracted more than 1.6 million visitors to the zoo since she was born. Report by Laurie Blake.

happy birthday!
She is a naughty girl
a birthday while hes in jail out of his natural habitat, nice one
wtf he lives in a mansion
its like a replica of the godlands they whisper to each other about
K, put them back in the wild. Wait one day and go back and there is a 80% chance it would be gone and it's skin on the black market.
She and her parents have both inside and outside enclosures that are big enough for them to live.
These pandas are in the zoos BECAUSE their natural habitat was destroyed, and their population is too low. Scientists must intervene to boost their population artificially, and that's the way to protect all endangered species.
Pandas live much better lives in protection than in the wild. They have happier and healthier lives; the only disadvantage is the loss of their instincts; they could become more reliant on humans, and that's another problem that zoologists are trying to tackle.
Yes, he is in an enclosure. No, he will likely never be released into the wild. Yes, he is adorable. Yes, his presence generates revenue for the Zoo. Even FOR profit zoos are working hard with conservation efforts to bring the population back in the world. By and large a great percentage of Pandas in the world live in zoos. This is because the zoos are the very best conservationists and engage in defined and varied breeding programs for the purpose of brining this animal and many others like them, to survive as a species. And it works. Pandas were VERY near the edge of the cliff until Congress and Zoos stepped in and saved them.

As I agree with most part of your comment, I doubt Congress did anything that helped saving pandas... It's the effort of WWF and zoologists that helped saving these animals.
