  • @latusalihyasalim4872
    @latusalihyasalim4872 4 года назад +3

    Here's a small trick.
    To + verb+ING: put the word situation in your head after to or ask yourself to what? That means we need something after to. Look I said something that means a thing a noun not a verb.
    He admitted to cheating.
    He admitted to (the situation of cheating) Which is a thing.
    I'm looking forward to meeting with you. (a situation where we meet each other) also a thing.
    To + infinitive : always there is an action that was done not a situation.
    I want to go.
    They asked you to come back.
    but you need to practice more and more because to plus ING is usually used with a certain verbs.
    confess or admit to doing something
    oppose or object to doing something
    be dedicated / devoted / committed to doing something;
    be used to / be accustomed to / adjust to doing something.
    phrasal verbs, like look forward to doing something or get around to doing something.
    If you remember these examples you'll be 90% able to understand this freaking lesson

      2. Verb+any preposition except 'to' +Verb+ing
      3. Verb+to+Verb = put it into phrasal verb test. If Verb+to+Verb+noun is right, then Verb+to is a phrasal verb and you will use Verb+to+Verb+ing. if the phrasal verb test does not make sense , then use Verb+to+Verb (no ing)

  •  5 лет назад

    There are things that really don't make sense in languages, example, you cannot just say I decided borrowing the book... the verb is decided to, but in this case it doesn't implement the gerund. But in the case look forward TO it applies. I believe, there's not an analytical approach to perfectly implement the grammar. But this lesson helped me to clarify the look forward to sentence. Cheers.

    Hi, I'm from Mexico... First of all, thanks for the English video class... I remembered in my English class, I always see the second verb in ING form when we used For, and in simple form the second verb when we used TO... For example,
    1.- I use my computer to send e-mails.
    2.- I use my computer for sending e-mails.
    But in this video, You explained that we could use ING with TO 🧐.
    Then, My second doubt is that when I read the phrase, " I look fordward to meeting you", maybe meeting isn't acting like verb, for this reason is in ING form. Maybe in the context it refers when the people talk and share time together.... Well, I'm improving my English skills for this reason I'm going to repeat several times the vídeo until I understand your point, and find information un books, thanks.

    So the rules are: TO + ING, never together , except PHRASAL VERB (verb + prep) + ING. Eventually, I think I have understood the rules. Thank you teacher.
