- Don't miss the moment where Madeline Dudley (returning from last week with Prince Monolulu) says something that cracks up Groucho. This is maybe the biggest genuine laugh I've ever seen from him. The exchange starts at 9:32.
COUPLE #1 (returning from last week): "Prince" Ras Monolulu, international race-track tout / Madeline Dudley
COUPLE #2: Mona Young, former Miss Norway / Dr. Popenoe, director of the Institute for Family Relations

Groucho had the sharpest wit of any comedian bar none. Arguably one of the finest Comedians ever period. Bless.
These shows came out over 20 years before I was born but I am hooked. I haven't seen Groucho genuinely laugh at something a contestant said until this episode.
The more I watch these old shows the more I understand what I miss about the 50's.
I hoped to see him laugh. Thank God. I needed this
Really enjoy these "You Bet Your Life" shows. Groucho was a riot. Watched them as a kid only once in a while because my mother didn't like the suggestive humor. I didn't get most of the innuendos but just liked watching Groucho do his thing. Great to see him again, he was brilliant. Many of the guests were terrific characters as well. Thx for posting these, they make me laugh out loud, I think they're a treasure.
William Maurer- For purely sociological reasons, these shows are a treasure. While it's true the guests were somewhat "projecting" for the cameras, it's still a fascinating look into American society. Anyone interested as to why we are the way we are today, can begin their research by studying these old shows from the fifties!
William Maurer I have to agree . I watched them roo. But I guess I was older I did get his jokes and loved his movies. I just loved Groucho they th have them on direct tv on a Jewish channel Midnight. In california.
William Maurer Haven't laughed this hard since the last 4am Trump tweet, although they're not meant to be funny. Where was Ma Trump when that kids mouth needed a bar of soap(only Ivory, of course). We have gone from gentle innuendo to outright altrt. trash talk excrescences. And why can't the trumplers teach their children how to speak?:
William Anthony Very true re the sociological point. We seem to have had a national nervous breakdown, like anguage-usage wise. I have to say also, we're living thru a moral/spiritual holocaust. At least Nixon kept his paranoic foul mouth to the tape private realm. As an aside no one ever questioned his loyalty to this country, or the armed forces thereif(US Navy, active, WW2)
On
Miss Norway was a real beauty. Thanks for posting this !
A pleasure! Glad you're enjoying the shows.
Yes I loved Grouch's laugh. He was so amazing. To get him to really laugh is a rare sight.
I felt he had genuine respect for these contestants, especially the man in the headdress. One great comedian can spot another quickly.
I once read a comment by George Fenneman , who said of Groucho near the end of his life "Groucho really needed a Groucho Marx to cheer him up, but he was the only person who couldn't have one".
biff delmonte- Oh my goodness, Boo-Hoo, Boo-Hoo! The man was an entertainer. I'm sorry he was unhappy, but the bottom line is, who cares? We ALL have problems of one sort or another!
William Anthony gosh that s the grouchiest comment I've read- since the last 4am Trump tweet. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, who supposedly was Mr.Ts minister for many years, and who married him and first wife, Ivanna, once said : Everyone is a problem, has a problem, or lives with a problem. He also said Christians should outlive, out laugh, and most importantly, out love the world
@@billanthony7896. What a horribly cynical and judgmental comment. I hope your personal life reflects your outlook. You deserve it.
"It flew the coop when the bell rang." Grouco...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You know it was unscripted, caught him off guard. I love this.
Oops Groucho!
what exactally flew the coop her train of thot? lol
@@AceripXF yes. She had the answer for a second but lost it. Stage fright maybe?
@@lorenanders702 ok i just wanted to make sure i got that joke but Groucho was so cute on that genuine hardy laugh lol it was so heart warming
@@AceripXF i know, which he was a little more that way.
77yrs old awesome dude the best. thanks for the post.
Thanks for your efforts in obtaining, editing, and posting these old shows. I`ve watched them all weekend long and had a blast doing so. Thanks again
Miss Norway was beautiful.
Yes---Such a sweet young lady like that still makes my aging heart beat faster!
A natural beauty. What I can't figure out is that she was from Norway but spoke perfect English without an accent (maybe a slight Texas accent). The only thing I can think of is that she must have had a lot of close contact with Americans growing up, maybe an American military base and or went to an American school in Noway?
I remember the first couple from last episode, and they both were hilarious. Madeline Dudley, a strong independent woman with a great sense of humour, and Prince Monolulu was just priceless! :)
ditto
I'll see that ditto and raise you one
Prince had wonderful memories!
Groucho laughing 9:41 "It flew the coop when the bell rang"
i like Prince Monolulus spirit saying he sang Glory Glory Halleluiah all over the world.
My God! Groucho laughs his ass off! What a special show this one was.
It is wonderful to see Groucho laugh so heartily. I've never seen that before. Dick Cavett said that he needed a Groucho to cheer him up sometimes and he was the only one who couldn't have him. But thank you for all these great shows. I really appreciate your taking the time to post them. Now, I wonder how old Miss Norway would be now? She can't still be married to that tall Texan...?
Glad to hear you've been enjoying the videos!
thanks for relating that story again. Dick and Groucho were firm friends and its clear from watching Dick talk theres a lot of love there.
I looked Mona Young, former Miss Norway, up and found her on IMDb. Looks like she was born 18 Feb1935 in Oslo Norway, died 7 Nov 2005 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The Texan was called her "first husband", but I don't know what happened.
@@SrVP100 Apparently, she had more than one hubby. Such a lovely young lady.

Never seen Groucho laugh so much! Love it.
I was in Grade School when this show was on TV. In our house the TV didn’t get turned on until I got all my homework done. This show was one of my Father’s favorite shows. I had to do my homework in the dining room so both my parents kept an eye on me to make sure I completed all my homework.
One evening it was getting close to this show coming on and my Dad came up and said it was getting close and he told me I better get cracking or I would be in big trouble. Lucky for me I got a move on it and the TV went On.
I've never seen Groucho laugh before
omg prince's laugh is so contagious LMAOO😂
Those two should have their own show.
"You Bet Your Life" was my grandfather's favorite show- you did not interrupt him when it was on. Once a man came from the local cemetery to try and sell my grandfather a plot when Groucho was on... my grandfather chased him halfway down the block!! LOL
Glad to hear your grandfather did not put the salesman IN the plot for disturbing him!
Victor Tinajero I worked for a funeral director as a pall bearer yrs.ago. He had a Groucho like wit. One day he solemnly reminded us, before a funeral, Remember boys, I take the orders- you carry them out.
George Alderson Me too; those pesky plot plyers, deadly, Dudley!
CLASSIC!!!!! My dad's view of boxing on T.V.
Congrats to the winners and God bless U Bet your Life and all who is on the show..
This show should make anyone smile 😊
Thank you for posting
BEST LAUGHS COME FORM GOOD CLEAN FUN!
Means nothing but I have the honor of giving this video a 1000 thumbs up.
I swear ... I think that prince might be the most interesting, funny and crazy individual I’ve ever seen !!! So fascinating, I wonder where they find these contestants?? Forget Groucho! It’s the contestants LOL!! The prince is actually adorable.
And he was 77
You can read several articles about him from England
Priceless to see Groucho laugh like that!!
That's one smart doc. Brains before beauty.
ed3432 Reminds me of the story about Dorothy Parker encountering Clare Booth Luce in one if those revolving door buildings in NYC. Caught awkwardly as to who should go first in the revolving door, Mrs.Luce imperiously announced to Dorothy that she(Mrs Luce) intended to go first thru the door, Age before beauty! To which Dorothy Parker retorted, sailing straight ahead thru the door, first, saying: Pearls before swine!
What a superb character!
I remember him. He was funny!
That gentleman was funny about breakfast!! My husband was so cranky in the morning, I stayed in bed so he couldn't ruin my day!!!
I love the way Madeline made Groucho laugh!
p.s. Mona is fricken beautiful!
hahahahah I was miss-caleneous once on santa monica beach. hahahahaha epic
I laughed so hard when he said that. lol
I like these two.
Groucho was always hilarious and entertaining! ❤️
Marvellous character.
God, Groucho was amazing.
Prince Monolulu was a horse racing tipster based in London UK.
That prince is some character.
U got that right
Mona Young was known as Mona Stornes when she won the Miss Norway title. She died in 2005 at age 70.
I believe you. Now what ?
Great show this one was. Funny for sure. The Prince was a real hoot
What a marvelous character Prince Monolulu was (his real name was Peter Carl Mackay 1881-1965) Here is a Wikipedia link telling about him. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Monolulu#Family_background_and_early_life
This could be a movie with Groucho in the background! Love to know more about Prince M...fascinating story agreed! I mean a lifestory of Prince M
Monolulu was actually from St Croix, his real name was Peter, and he was an expert at betting on horses.
He was for many years a fixture at Epsom on Derby day where he shout i've got horse. It was of course a bit of a con because in say a fifteen horse race he would fifteen different names written down on a piece of paper which mean't he always had one happy customer
I lost it at 4:50. I'm still crying. Lmfao
My wife was a week old when this aired.
How fabulous is Madeline Dudley.
Prince Monolulu is cool.
Also a faker
"You chose General Information and he was a great warrior!" ....
Two fascinating people. She married a crying man who was sick of women, and was sick of men. I could have listened to their stories for an hour. Age 77?! He looks great! And G-man was funniest guy on tv.
miss norway died at 70 in 2005
OH
I actually lived in Ethiopia for a couple of years and saw Haile Selassie King of Ethiopia claimed to be a descendant of Bathsheba
"I was a victim of their intelligence"...that was hilarious.
@1:16 looked like Morgan Freeman walking out for a second there lol
WOW IS THAT DOCTOR SMART.
He's not a friggin' doctor or a prince
I love how woman and men would just kiss out of nowhere and not even knowing each other and people got surprised and yet no one made a big thing out it
"I'd better go laughing or I'd be a riot"??
reminded me a bit of nelson mandela
On acid, maybe.
groucho did acid ....once at least
***** See "My Acid Trip with Groucho: See the Sacred Word and Win $100" by Paul Krassner, from High Times for February 1981: www.sirbacon.org/4membersonly/groucho.htm
groucho didn't need acid....he was an acidic corrosive personality..... funny? maybe, but as a father he left a big gaping hole....time we called these"cinema icons" on the carpet.....same goes for joan crawford and her ilk....harpo was more appealing to me....he never said"nuttin" and charmed us all with his bittersweet harp, .....and rubber horn
+John Iorio idiot
Miss Norway could kiss me anytime.
Yes sir
The best game show ever! Groucho pushed the envelope with his questions and remarks and the audience loved it. Those daze are over in the era of political correctness.
9:02 mark. Then she says. I can see why he has 6 wives. Love that Gal.
Prince looks like Morgan Freeman
Hope this generation has a chance to aPpreciate Groucho
Wow. The eyebrows of the sidekick!
What sidekick, Gabby Hayes ?
Yep liked grouchy his brothers and like watching his old shows and his wit brilliant
Groucho easily handles the so called Prince...
Hilarious 😆.
I read this Prince guy was full of it, all an act
Some was a story and some was a fact that he "stretched" a bit I believe
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Monolulu
9 41 WHAT . ? when the bell rings...
Start at 9:42 if you want to see Groucho laugh.
thank you!
At the 4:50 mark LMFAO
17:32
DANG, SHE'S PURTY!!!
I'm movin' to Norway!
BeingRomans829ed amen; my first girlfriend was from Stavanger Norway and boy was she a beauty.
BeingRomans829ed ps cannot be separated from that love, and part of that love, I believe, is gentle humor.
I was 3 days old when this aired......who cares?
Very funny....
14.15 I'm coming to it: Danish/Norwegian Jeg kommer til det= I'll be getting at it! (funny for me to hear as a Dane).
I thought they were married to each other.
Doc had no interest in discussing answer with his partner. Says a lot about him.
Peculiar that nobody, not even Groucho, seems at all impressed at Miss Norway's total command of English, without the trace of an accent. You'd think Groucho would have asked about that. She must have been either incredibly intelligent, or have been to a school in an English-speaking country at a young age -- or both. In any case, I've been noticing that Groucho often has trouble pronouncing names, both of contestants (which is obviously sometimes done to provoke them) and of some of the answers to the quiz questions. This is in no way putting him down, on the contrary, he was almost totally self-educated and attained a remarkable sophistication.
Bigfoot Mangiacavallo she absolutely has a subtle accent!
Groucho was an amazingly educated autodidact. His correspondence with Dick C acetate are in the National Archivea in D.C.
that darn android again ! I said National Archives, not acetate; this thing has a mind of its own!!
Dick Cavett
she has the same accent as the Puerto Rican maternity clothes model... exactly
Gee I should go to Africa..I'd be a riot there...
The original Nigerian prince.
Miss Norway, Mona Young was a dead ringer for Loretta Young!
I espeeecially like -thr Marx brothers-Opera.
Patricia Allie Woolfstein Ah yes, and the look on Margaret Dumont's face when reacting to a Groucho- ism, willikers, it's worth a million dollars!!
What did she say before Groucho started to laugh?
"It flew the coop when the bell rang." (referring to her answer to the question!)
To me that was one of the funniest moments of the show. As always, thanks so much for sharing these priceless shows.
why was that funny ??? what does it mean ???
Henning Andersen "It flew the coop" meaning that "it" (the answer to the question) flew out of her mind, like a bird out of a coop, the moment the bell rang.
Thanks.
BEAUTIFUL MISS NORWAY LOOKS A LOT LIKE THE ALSO BEAUTIFUL LORETTA YOUNG. SHE HAS THE LOOKS: THE VOICE, THE HAIR, EYES, SMILE, CHEEKS AND MANNERIMS OF LORETTA YOUNG, BUT GROUCHO DIDN'T PICK UP ON IT.
How do you know that "GROUCHO DIDN'T PICK UP ON IT." ?
2 57 Well I got ............?
King has a Caribbean accent but great character
What happened to fennemanns eyebrows
I think Morgan Freeman has time travel capabilities 🤔
The prince is such a fake😅 -- and an excellent stand-up comic.
In those days 10k would buy you a house!
oh my god, why did you add subtitles that are 80% wrong. your actually confusing people
RUclips creates closed captions on its own. I have nothing to do with that.
Oh, and you're welcome for the video. Have a lovely day.
I thought the same thing, youtube create automatically close captions and confusing the people
Miss Norway was ofc less of a muppet than the regular american woman. And Groucho (and everyone really) were not used to strong women with an opinion.
Just stop. Neither Groucho nor anyone else at that time would have been unfamiliar with a strong, opinionated woman.
Groucho's own mother was a strong woman.
I better go to Africker, I'd be a riot!!
as I thot she'd be divorced from Mr Young the Texan in short order.......seeing that she couldn't make his 'short order'.
"COUPLE #2 ... Inlaws 😒 Amen!
Apparently you could make $1,000 go a long way back then.
Mona died in 2005 age 70.
