Damn, my mind is blown! I've watched about a dozen other youtube vids (all of spray can solutions) of how to get a metallic gold paint finish on the expensive C3PO head bust I just ordered, but none of them look truly metallic. The prop head comes painted but doesn't look true metallic either, and I'm scared I'll destroy it trying to get a proper metal look. Your video is the closest to getting me to plunge, but I still fret I'm gonna butcher my prop head - I have zero experience on any of this type stuff. But if I could get a golden or even silver finish on my 3PO head like you did on baby Yoda here, I'd be thrilled!
Thank you for this video. It's inspiring a future project. Also, on the date this video was released, my hair was dyed blue, and I'm glad you appreciated that...
Absolutely fantastic. I’ve watched Genken do this process on live streams back in 2020 and it always mystified me. This video did a fantastic job of breaking down the process to make it seem far more attainable than I had imagined, but while still keeping the magic, let alone the humor. I would be very interested to learn about the candy coating process that comes after this, and hope for more Good Enough videos in the future. If you can take half the techniques you listed at the end of the video and make them as enjoyable and attainable as this, the maker community will be better for it.
I use Alumilite resin dye usually, or the dye from Angel Gilding. For the clear coat, any 2k Urethane will work. Angel Gilding sells one, I buy from Speedokote (linked in the description). The candy coat is mixed by taking the clear coat and just adding drops of the resin dye until I like the intensity of the tint. I'll then usually clear coat with an undyed coat afterwords just so that polishing / sanding doesn't change the depth of color.
I promise I'll get to it! Been quite a season this last year. Just gotta get back into the swing of things. I've made so many videos for content but just haven't edited any :(
Worth every minute watching this

Are you making & selling Busters?
Ahaha I love the intro!
Could you tell me what brand of candy paint/dye you use?

So how do I add the color? Or when?
