  • In this techno tutorial, I want to show you 5 common low-end mistakes that are ruining the dynamics and the groove of your tracks. I’ll also show you good practices to avoid them when creating your low-end. We will cover things like proper frequency distribution, and making sure the sounds have the desired length. We will look at using delay, and if we are using too many layers. We will finish with the ways to balance your low-end.

I advise to get metric AB and to compare your reference track with your own trsck. Complete mono on the low end can be boring, and is for rumble techo 50 hz warble maybe even not so important, if you have distinctive bass lines, layer the sounds in low mid high bass part, and then use send fx to mid or high part of the sound when you want a haas fx or stero widening fx. Maybe layer rumbels with distinctive bass sound of 80 to 300 hz, seperation is key, as you explaind, but seperation can also be time, not only frequency. Lfo Tool, Shaperbox helps quiete a bit here to analyze and clean the lows.

at 11:00 you do not limit the stereo field of the delay when it is being run as return channel as you show in the examples before. is there a reason for that or is it by mistake ? thx

The note of the kick wont matter that much if you sidechain.

It does my friend. The ducking from sidechain will dim your bassline making it weaker and losing it's groove. I believe it's better to be avoid extensive sidechaining if possible with smart composition.

@hypnotictechnoproduction just sidechain the right amount till you see on the oscilloscope that nothing clashes and there is no volume dip.

Sometimes inverting polarity on one of the tracks can solve the clashing when you look at the oscilloscope.

@hypnotictechnoproduction you can have volumeshaper on both channels, open at the same time for example, and then draw sidechain curves on both so you can get a great transition between the kick and bass. And the oscilloscope on the master will help you see and hear where the sweet spot is.
