Love the 6th Doctor era!!! He was my Doctor as I grew up and watched regularly. I have some odd memories of 5th Doctors final season. I was heartbroken when the 6th regenerated lol
Great news! I'm excited to get our first complete Doctor's Run in The Collection. I'm a fan of Timelash so I'm looking forward to the enhanced effects. I agree with you. The cover art by Lee Binding is one of the finest they've done. Now to wait for the Region 1 release.
Can we all take a minute to appreciate just how glorious the Artwork is again. Lee Binding just captures that vibrant 80s sense of adventure and wonder. Fantastic to get another Sixy set, looking forward to getting my hands on this.
Super excited for this one! Stunning art by Lee Binding as always. I think the character on the other Vengeance on Varos disc is the Sixth Doctor without his jacket on. Also the surpruse guest for in conversation is Michael Grade going by the trailer, that will be fascinating to watch.
Hey there Rhys! Ah, that's great news about Grade! And hilariously, towards the end of editing this video, I noticed the Doctor's trousers on that disc, but it was too late to do anything about it. 🤣🤣
Hooray! With the exception of a sixties season this would've been my choice for the next release so I'm really looking forward to it (Two Doctors is one of my favourite stories in the whole show). Wasn't expecting Fix to be on the set - I haven't watched it in about ten years but I think that'll change with the new commentary. Beautiful artwork as always. Pre ordered!
The Two Doctors? No. It starts off very well but eventually becomes a disgrace for Troughton and his Doctor, when he and the Androgum go downtown for an eating tour. That is just embarrassing.
Such a Great series of Classic Who. This was the series I wanted most once these blu ray sets started arriving. Still sad 35 years later that we didn't get to see a real follow up to this season or see how Colin would have fleshed out 6. The cover looks Amazing and tons of special features. Looking forward to the behind the scenes stuff and CGI on TIMELASH (there, I said it). Will definitely not watch the Grade interview though....Too late to apologize (if he even does). Coulda, Shoulda Woulda with Colin Baker (so-so sad still to this day) but at least we got this amazing series with him...and now we get to enjoy it again!! Cheers from the land where we don't get those amazing shelf friendly boxes that look Fantastic on your shelf!! Thank you for the review. Loved it.
Hey there Dave! Apologies for my late response. Thanks very much for your kind words! Glad you like the look of this set, and share my enthusiasm for the new FX! Whereabouts in the world are you, then?
@@jarnopp Hey Jayson. No worries on response time. I'm in the States. Here we only get the disks in a blue plastic box with the box art shrunken down a bit. Those Region 2 boxes in the UK look so good! Im More envious than jealous. LOL. We just got notice that season 17 is released on 4-19-22 so that means Colin's first season should be released here in June or July! To this day he is still "My Doctor". I am hopeful there is a parallel universe out there where 6 was the doctor for the intended amount of series (6 or 7 maybe?) That is not meant as a dig and 7 and Sophie....They were amazing together also. Best Regards.
Seems the special guest for the 3rd In-Conversation is Michael Grade. Also the other Vengeance on Varos disc looks like it’s The Doctor as you can see the yellow trousers with the black pinstripes on it at the bottom of the disc.
Jason. I love watching your videos. Just been informed by HMV that my order for Season 2 Blu Ray Limited Edition Boxset has been despatched. Just been updated that it's on its way. Happy days. Love my Doctor Who. I know you do too.
Great announcement video! I'm not sure if anyone else has responded to two of your queries in the comments yet but it's Colin on the Vengeance disc (I'd recognise those trousers anywhere!) and that "special" guest interview appears to be Michael Grade. Oh, and thank you for reassuring me that I'm not the only one who makes space on the shelf prior to the sets arriving!
Thanks for the kind words, Bobby! And haha, yes, I did feel a fool when I noticed the Doctor's legs on the bottom of that disc! 😅 Great news about Michael Grade! Should be interesting, that chat.
Very excited to see this season announced and it gives me a chance to revisit a couple of stories along with some new ones The cover on this one is probably my favourite one lee has done so far and I would genuinely have it as a poster on my wall
Why, that Vengence on Varos disc has the sixth doctor without his coat! Probably from the Acid Bath scene. Looks brilliant! So very happy Timelash is getting a glow up.
Thanks Jeremy! Hilariously, I realised this towards the end of the edit, when I had no time left in which to do anything about it. 🤣 Glad you're happy about Timelash - I'm genuinely looking forward to revisiting it!
Just finished filming a reaction video to the trailer. Very enjoyable and the cover may be the best one yet (although I say that about every new one) The special features also look cool and I am definitely most looking forward to In Conversation with Michael Grade 😂 Very surprised to see A Fix with Sontarans being added though
I wonder if the "Fix" footage will be edited to just show the actual "episode" (for want of a better word) and remove the introductory bits that feature you know who.
Hello Jason as with the last 2 box sets so this is the third one. Your the person I hear the news first. I do like certain stories in this season. Attack of the cybermen, mark of the rani, the two doctors. I love behind the sofa and it looks amazing this time. I love all new docs. The artwork is amazing 😀
I remember Colin making some comments about Jimmy Saville! he was short and more hinting! basically didn't think much of him but said it in a respectful/fun way
@@jarnopp it’s on one of the Jimmy Saville documentary’s, they show a clip where Colin says something about him being more scary than Daleks? and then ends with saying ‘I’ll leave it there’, can’t remember word for word!
Already pre-ordered mine. I've always had a real fondness for 80s era Doctor Who, so I'm really looking forward to diving into this one. Attack of the Cybermen and Revelation of the Daleks are my favourite, and I find Timelash oddly fascinating (even though it's not a particularly good story). And the Colin Baker Years doc being included is just the cherry on top, :)
Awesome. Must admit, even though I have a few jokes at Timelash's expense in this video, I honestly don't remember disliking it. I'm looking forward to seeing it again! 😄
What do you reckon they'll do when they come to release season 3? With most of it missing cos I can't see em putting all the telesnap reconstructions on it they must animated atleast some of them mustn't they? Cos someone told me season 2 is coming this year after 9
Yes, a tricky question- especially with regular animations apparently having been stopped. But I have faith that they'll start again sometime. Maybe that will slow the releases of seasons like 3. 🤔
As happy as I am that a fix with sontarans is included, I fully expect Saville to of been completely removed with some clever editing. I have the DVD and he is quite prominent in that cut
Hi DKS! Must admit, the fact there's an audio commentary suggests to me that they'll be keeping it whole, Savile and all, and having a discussion about it.
As with every boxset, I get tremendously excited 😁 I've pre ordered it now as I'm set to go working with Carnival cruise lines for 6 months so It should be waiting for me when I come home. Very exciting 🤩
Great video I have already pre ordered my copy of season 22 the person on the vengeance of varos disc is the 6th doctor without his coat and the mystery guest is Michael grade the ex controller for the bbc and responsible for the cansaltion
Great stuff, Lewis! And thanks for the info. Funny thing is, towards the end of editing this video, I noticed the Doctor's trousers on that disc, but it was too late to do anything about it. 🤣🤣
One of my dream seasons to be released. A sad fact I don't have a blu-ray player, but seeing each one for the visual artwork because I'm a visual person is what I'm always excited about. This is definitely the busiest front covers so far with all the villains crammed on the front
The actor who played Sil - don't think he's died...... Yet. I knew it was going to be Timelash for updated effects I could feel it in my Who Gut. Lol. I remember watching the Jim F It section on the dvd and you could tell by Colin's face he didn't like Jimmy - maybe he too had heard of the same rumours as the Sex Pistols had??
I met Jaqueline Pearce at a convention. She was one of the nicest people you could meet, totatlly opposite to Servelan. This looks like it could be that convention. If it is it's the same one as the Tom Baker footage on the Season 17 boxset. It's a shame Frazer Hines isn't in the Behind the Sofa features.
@@jarnopp Definitely Attack of the Cybermen, followed by Revelation of the Daleks. Not just because they're Daleks and Cybermen but because I think they're all round the best stories.
I did suspect when you mentioned on your Patreon that the new video was subject to embargo that it would be the Who 22 announcement. Best get the pre-order in. Can't wait to see Vengeance on Varos in HD. As Colin himself said "some would say it's a classic" :)
I'm looking forward to "Mark of the Rani" - it always looked lovely on screen, and it was beautifully shot. Sarah Hellings was a film-editor before she became a director, and I think it shows.
A Fix with Sontarans is in the boxset, I'm glad cause I don't think many people have seen the minisode it is pretty good and looks nicer in a Higher Definition, hopefully they cut out the scenes with you know who
Yet again Jason thanks for the update, I've just pre ordered mine. I think season 22 was Coin Baker best season. I love this art work. I'm just hoping that we do eventually get all seasons on blu ray, but after hearing recently that BBC America have pulled out of financing the animation lost stories? I'm not sure what happens next? 🤔 keep up the good work Jason 👏 🙌
Thanks for the kind words, Ray! I think we have to hope for the best. One thing I know, is that if something makes money, a company will always want to get involved.
@@jarnopp Nah, I decided I’d wait on the Standard reissue whenever it arrives (even if it’s two years down the track) for the sole reason that I’m not a giant fan of Season 22. It may be controversial, but I enjoy Trial of a Time Lord much more, however I never picked up Season 23, so… I did, however, order that Season 24 I was talking about, and I’m now pretty sure it is actually the Limited Edition! JB HI-FI simply misnamed it and its details page. I got it for about AUD $25 cheaper than its original price, lol. These 24s have been in stock for ages over here!
I pre ordered straight away I agree this has been a very underrated season and Colin Baker underrated too I have to admit that after my favourite The 5th as a 15 year old at the time I struggled with how different the 6th was and stopped watching so much but since the dvd and blu ray releases I have become a big fan
Hi there Ian! Great to hear from you. And yes, I too drifted away from the show after the Fifth Doctor moved on, but it was nice to return to Who and appreciate so many of the stories that followed! Glad you've ordered the box set.
So when Season 21 comes out it will be interesting to see if Colin Baker appears with Peter Davison on the cover in some way …… Technically The Twin Dilemma is a Season 21 story . I remember getting the 20th Anniversary official BBC magazine which listed all the Season 21 stories before even broadcast !
I assume Peter Davison will be the main image with, possibly Colin Baker just behind him. It might be interesting to do what was done on the Planet of the Spiders novel with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. Have a series of images showing Peter Davison mophing into Colin Baker. I'm still wondering what's happened to Season 20. We haven't had a Peter Davison boxset for a very long time.
Not just technically, it is a Season 21 story. But I am wondering whether The Five Doctors will be on the Season 20 or Season 21 set. It is the 20th anniversary special that belongs to neither season.
Excellent! (Who does that remind you of?) I've been hoping they'd Collection-ise Season 22. I watched all of it very recently while working my way through all of the John Nathan-Turner years and I thought on the whole it was a very strong season. Lots of really great stuff. And also, do you know what? I LIKE "TIMELASH"!!! There, I've said it. It's an enjoyable romp what with all that stuff with "Herbert", and I really loved the make-up for the Borad which I thought looked amazing. The whole business of him (sorry, minor spoiler alert) wanting to turn Peri into the same kind of mutant as himself so that they could mate was actually very creepy. With new CGI effects the story could really be lifted and perhaps it might gain some new fans. Yes, the inside of the Timelash itself looked rubbish with its obviously polystyrene crystals adorning the wall, so I'm really hoping they are able to give these sequences in particular a bit of make-over. Actually, for me, the worst story in the season is - dare I say it? - "Attack Of The Cybermen". It starts off nicely enough with the Doctor and Peri creeping around in the sewers, cybermen lurking in the shadows, etc, all very atmospheric "behind the sofa" stuff, but really that's about as exciting as it gets. What was that awful line that Brian Glover's character comes out with in a mock robot voice? The cybermen are supposed to be SCARY and if a character makes fun of them it does not help the viewer's suspension of disbelief (I know I'm always harping on about "suspension of disbelief" but in a show like Doctor Who it is very important). And the other thing that gets my goat about this story is that the cybermen are more or less portrayed as robots. We see heads getting knocked off, and the Doctor poking about with the electronics inside a cyberhelmet that clearly has no human skull inside it. (Shades of "Destiny Of The Daleks" here, which also treats the titular villains as if they are robots). Also, the Cryons were hardly the best realised alien race in the history of Doctor Who (they'd have looked better in black and white in the William Hartnell era) while the handle-less cyber controller looked a bit rubbish and didn't really add anything to the story that the Cyber Leader couldn't have done, never mind that he was played by Michael Kilgariff from Tomb Of The Cybermen - that would have been lost on most viewers anyway. But yeah, once you get past "Attack Of The Cybermen" the only way is UP in Season 22. And what a joy it is to see the Patrick Troughton's Doctor and Frazer Hines as Jamie return one final time. It's a shame that Colin Baker's debut and only other story not to get The Collection treatment so far, "The Twin Dilemma", has been left orphaned (or is that widowed?) at the end of Season 21. Hopefully that season will be released in The Collection series in the not too distant future.
Thanks for putting so much effort into these thoughts, GL! Marvellous stuff. Must admit, as much as I took easy swipes at Timelash for comic effect, I don't remember hating it and am genuinely looking forward to seeing it again. 😀
The truth is, even though I make a few easy gags at Timelash's expense, I don't remember disliking it! I'm actually looking forward to watching it again, and I always really love having optional FX! :)
Somehow, I've never seen it. I have every other story in the season. Looking forward to it now (having found the one person on the Internet who likes it!) :)
Hi Jason, I always enjoy your enthusiasm with regard to these releases. I really liked Colin but, aside from "Attack of the Cybermen", this season is a stinker! I never liked the then new 45 minute format. Many are quick to criticise the sixth Doctor, the way I see it is that Colin Baker worked well with bad material. You can tell that he loved playing the part and was badly let down (in more ways than one). The presentation of this set is stunning and when you look at what's included, it's really good value. I think there will be many happy fans with this release. Keep up the good work. Always a pleasure. 👍
On one hand, I'm disappointed having to deal with another dreadful season. On the other, I'm happy because it means we have at least one Doctor's run complete and the new bonus features should be amazing to watch.
Yes, but I meant by seasonal count. Although, I find it weird for them to call the American release Colin Baker Season 1 when it doesn't have The Twin Dilemma. This is one of the reasons they should have just kept the seasonal count for the US releases, or if nothing else, at least do a reverse cover with the season numbers.
And they f'ed up the US release. Since season 23 is listed as colin baker season two, season 22 is then colin bakers first season however he was in one episode of season 21. This season is very underrated. Vengeance on varos is a classic, this season also had a great dalek story, a decent cybermen story. The first rani story is good aswell. Plus two doctors is really fun. Definitely a solid season
Tricky, isn't it. If they had, then the S21 set would have felt light! Overall, I think for purity's sake, this is the best way. 🤔 What's your fave S22 serial?
Hey there - thanks so much for the kind words! But yes, I think we'd both be forgiven for doubting that In A Fix With Sontarans would make it onto this release! Am doing a livestream today at 3pm GMT, in which that will be one of the things discussed!
So happy we have Season 22 announced now the rumours was very heavy with 22 being the next season Already pre ordered my sets can’t wait to I get them the artwork for the cover is beautiful as always what set do you think we will get next Jason Surely Season 20?
Doctor Who entered the dark age in the Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy Era because the television networks at the time started to focus on doing soaps and reality tv shows. That's how it led into the BBC pulling the plug in 1989
Colin Baker. My absolute least favourite Doctor. EVER EVER EVER but the RANI oh gods what a role model. The packaging is a stunner, this looks like a beautiful set.
Hey there! Nice Slayer avatar. There's no release date as yet, but when one arrives I will add to my page that gathers all the Collection releases together: www.jasonarnopp.com/classicdoctorwho
@@jarnopp the 1985 hiatus was the reason for doctor who's demise in 1989. We all know why because the television networks at the time started to focus on doing soap dramas and reality TV shows. They were starting to become Big things at the time.
Still not happy about no audio description for the blind. In the DVD days they at least teased the blind with audio navigation. The classic series is a wasteland for blind fans.

Hey there! You're right - there are a lot of foes on there. Still works great, though, right?
@@jarnopp Definitely so and the time vortex really adds to it
The actor who played Sil - don't think he's died...... Yet. I knew it was going to be Timelash for updated effects I could feel it in my Who Gut. Lol. I remember watching the Jim F It section on the dvd and you could tell by Colin's face he didn't like Jimmy - maybe he too had heard of the same rumours as the Sex Pistols had??
Another sublime Collection boxset fir Colin Baker’s best season. I can hardly wait.
Brilliant, Paul. Glad you're up for this one!
Yes. Gotta love a time vortex! What's your fave S22 serial?
@@jarnopp Definitely Attack of the Cybermen, followed by Revelation of the Daleks. Not just because they're Daleks and Cybermen but because I think they're all round the best stories.
@@Trev359I think Attack of the Cybermen is very entertaining.
The other interview is with Michael Grade!!
How awesome! A must watch. 👌 😄
I would love to see a guest appearance of Brian Blessed!!
Hehe, YES INDEEEEEED. 😄
Hehe, yes indeed. I'm going to be delighted to have Attack and Revelation on Blu-ray, most of all, I think. 🤔
@@ftumschk Cool! Been a while since I saw that one.
Really excited for this release this is my favourite Colin Baker season one that I most remember growing up this one’s been a long time coming😊
Brilliant, Tony - I'm so glad you're super excited about this one!
A Fix with Sontarans is in the boxset, I'm glad cause I don't think many people have seen the minisode it is pretty good and looks nicer in a Higher Definition, hopefully they cut out the scenes with you know who
Hopefully that means there's hope for Dimensions in Time and The Curse of Fatal Death
@@TheRealUnkn0wn_289 dimensions in time is just really fun
Yet again Jason thanks for the update, I've just pre ordered mine. I think season 22 was Coin Baker best season. I love this art work. I'm just hoping that we do eventually get all seasons on blu ray, but after hearing recently that BBC America have pulled out of financing the animation lost stories? I'm not sure what happens next? 🤔 keep up the good work Jason 👏 🙌
Thanks for the kind words, Ray! I think we have to hope for the best. One thing I know, is that if something makes money, a company will always want to get involved.
The trailer just popped up the other day while I was browsing RUclips early in the morning. I almost resolved to instantly pre-ordering…
Almost… but not quite. :D Have you ordered it yet, WC?
Wow can't wait told you it was coming out
Hooray, Mark!
When Wendy said id rather see a quark is that a bluray season 6 hint there hope so
Hey there Jake! Sadly I doubt it, but I'd love to see the Quarks on Blu-ray too! 😄
It would be great if it was David Banks as the surprise guest it would be EXCELLENT.
I agree! :D
Very excited!!!! This is great news.
Awesome, Dominic! Glad you're excited. What's your fave serial from S22?
@@Nikioko 5 Doctors is part of , or technically part of 🤣, the Season 20 block, story 6K , which is before 6L (Warriors Of The Deep)
Slipback, too - brilliant!
Hey there, FC - glad you're happy with that li'l addition!
@@jarnopp I'm glad I found your channel again - I lost it for a while!
Waiting for this one to MATERIALIZE!!
Cor yeah! Can't wait. 🥳🥳 what's your fave s22 serial?
Looks really really really awesome I really love the series
Hey there Anton! I'm very glad you're happy! 👍😊
Listen to my podcast I talked about wall the doctors in order
Is The Twin Dilemma not included?
Hi there! No, it very much looks like that will kept in Season 21.
@@jarnopp I’m guessing they will have some cool feature with Peter and Colin about the swap
@@Gibson1976uk yes, that's true. They'll have more space on the S21 set to make a bigger deal of the regeneration
I think we can all agree in years to come Timelash will be seen for the masterpiece it is. (And, no, I'm not joking. I really love that story).
I was hoping for season 21 which is The Fifth Doctor's Third And Final season
Hey there Ben! Well, hopefully we'll get that in the next few years. Let's see!
Thanks so much, Patrick. I appreciate you watching and sharing your views!
On one hand, I'm disappointed having to deal with another dreadful season. On the other, I'm happy because it means we have at least one Doctor's run complete and the new bonus features should be amazing to watch.
Yes, it's great that, no matter what you think of the season itself, the wealth of extras is pretty fascinating.
Definitely. The Doctor's Table and the Cook Book Revisited are some of my top favorite DW features.
Not quite complete twin Dilemma is in season 21
Yes, but I meant by seasonal count. Although, I find it weird for them to call the American release Colin Baker Season 1 when it doesn't have The Twin Dilemma. This is one of the reasons they should have just kept the seasonal count for the US releases, or if nothing else, at least do a reverse cover with the season numbers.
Sadly, they would probably only do that for the UK version while us in the US would only get Davison's face.
Do you know the release date jason
Hi Mark! It still hadn't been decided. I will add it to this page when I know: www.jasonarnopp.com/classicdoctorwho

@@markstevenson621 Good stuff, Mark! :)

Hi there Lee. No, it's still TBC!
@@jarnopp TBA, not TBC. ;-)
Hey there Richard! Great to hear from you. Glad you sound psyched for the S22 set, regardless of what it's called. 😊👍
It’s a shame they didn’t throw in Twin Dilemma. That one will feel a bit out of place on the 21st season set.
Tricky, isn't it. If they had, then the S21 set would have felt light! Overall, I think for purity's sake, this is the best way. 🤔 What's your fave S22 serial?

Yes indeed, John - the violence is pretty mad in that one!
I am guessing the jim will fix it extra won’t be in this one.
Ha. Silly me just finished watching this. You were wondering exactly the same thing. Another thorough video Jason.
Hey there - thanks so much for the kind words! But yes, I think we'd both be forgiven for doubting that In A Fix With Sontarans would make it onto this release! Am doing a livestream today at 3pm GMT, in which that will be one of the things discussed!

Shame that both The Sixth and Seventh Doctor's Eras were short lived on screen. Because doctor who was facing the darkest age during the late 80s.
It is indeed a shame, Ben. Although sometimes when there's less of a show, it makes us appreciate it more. 🤔🤔
