      Thank you so much! It's probably time to have another interview series with Mark, I'm still excited for it.

      Cool, too bad there wasn't a chat feature with the viewers. That would've been fun. I'm excited, time to save more pennies lol

    I would be all over it if had original/conceptual V-tail option.
    Would’ve been/would be nice if spend the time to figure out how to make the V-tail work, especially since they haven’t yet even started building one.
    Still early enough for their design team to get it figured out and done!
    People often times choose experimental, because of awesome ramp appeal design features.
    Hope that makes sense!!

      Absolutely! My day job is working on Cessnas, Pipers and Beechcraft so when an Experimental shows up it certainly gets my attention.

    I’m pretty excited about this one. I doubt I fit in a regular model B and would be difficult to take an additional passenger due to the useful load, so I pretty much wrote those off.
    High wing with a UL350i would be a great plane for cross country travel. 5 gph or so and speeds of 170 mph.
    That should be a less than $90,000 plane and will greatly undercut the RV-14, Rans S-21, and RV-15 that I have been looking at.
    If they can fit me in the plane at 6’6, I will probably have a pretty early deposit on one.

      Yup, my A model with 80hp was basically a single seat aircraft for me and the terrain I was operating out of. Great flying machine though. The B model has a more relaxed seating position, but I've personally never sat in one. I fully expect that the High Wing will be able to accommodate you. (I've ridden in an RV-6 and my head at 5' 9" was just about bumping the canopy...)

    I had to miss the webinar - so thanks for the update. My wife would definitely would like SLSA version….

      Absolutely, glad to help! 👍 The full webinar is definitely worth watching, couldn't give away all of Mark's secrets. 😉 I think the market would support the Sonex approach to an s-lsa quite well.

    Hi and thank you for your report. It seems Sonex is finally filling the performance gap left by current metal high wing offers in the market. I’ve been waiting for ages for a design like this one, a modern design with Tailwind performance in my honest view. The specs sheet reports a small mistake though , metric length is more likely to be 6 meters. Greetings from Italy.

      Awesome, thanks for stopping by! 100% agree, the Highwing will definitely fill in the gap nicely. 👍👍👍 I've looked at a few Tailwinds over the years, loved the concept and performance, but always thought I'd rather have something all aluminum. Here we are!

    I’d love to build one. Seems like a good “do everything” plane. However, I’m not completely sold on the throttle levers sticking out from the panel on the sides. I’d rather see a vernier throttle setup like the zeniths if they’re going to have the center stick option. Seems like that throttle quadrant column sticks out a little. Or maybe I’ll build it with dual sticks and do a center lever throttle in the console? 🤔 Either way I’m stoked it’s two person aerobatic capable with the shorty wingtips! - Jacob

      Yup, the low wing Sonex is great but the high wing just opens up more possibilities. I couldn't fly the first winter with mine due to the high snow banks, even saw an RV clip one. Beautiful thing about building e-ab is you can configure the panel however you like. I wouldn't think the throttle mounting points are structural, may not be necessary. Perhaps an optional install on the plans? Think I'd have to sit in the prototype to see how I'd configure it.

      It's Experimental aviation, for a reason. You are free to change it.

    Uhh, the Y tail would work,,,, inverted!!! That,s is an inverted y tail like the mini imp!

    Good report. One question would be why no dual breaking on the design?

    • @LeftSeatAdventures
      @LeftSeatAdventures  Год назад +1

      Thanks and good question. 👍 It goes back to the Sonex design philosophy and the direct steering tailwheel. You can install differential braking, but then you have to go to a traditional breakaway tailwheel setup. If not, you'll damage the direct steering one. Sonex put out a service bulletin on that matter. Honestly, the direct steering tailwheel makes the Sonex super easy to control on the ground, almost cheating. Just have to plan ahead with the increased turning radius.

    How is Sonex going to get kits out to customers? I couldnt even get the tail kit for the YX a couple years ago or get anyone on the phone. Customer service is lacking......

      I have heard that from a few people on here, but that was not my experience when I was doing my project 2020 and on. Lead times are pretty long in the whole industry right now, don't know what Sonex 's is at the moment. I know from other builders of multiple brands that their stuff is coming in earlier than projected. Zenith claimed to have the shortest lead time of everyone at the moment, and I personally witnessed them shipping and packing orders:

    The drawings look alot like a tailwind

    • @LeftSeatAdventures
      @LeftSeatAdventures  Год назад +2

      Yup 👍. Part of the design philosophy early on was a modern take on an all metal Tailwind. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person.
