Retired Military Working Dog Kuno has been awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal for his outstanding service while deployed overseas.
During his second tour of duty as a Canine Protection and Detection dog, MWD Kuno faced dangers and struggles but still carried on with his duty even in the face of gunfire. Watch his incredible story.

You can never beat the love, loyalty and devotion of a dog, I’ve had collies, Doberman’s and now a Ridgeback cross, all would defend me and my family till the end, a bond that can never be understood unless you’ve had one. Good job Kuno and all serving 🙏🏼

Mr. Cunningham - From the looks of the person handling him, I would imagine it is either his handler or another military person that he is retired with. A dog trained to this level would need a knowledgeable handler, even retired. With the money put into his surgery and legs, I would bet 100% on a military experienced owner.

My K9 got murdered. I still miss him today, and I wish I could've saved him just as he saved me, more times than I deserved. Often I wish I could've traded places with him, because I know that he's alone now, waiting, and he'll be dutifully waiting till the day I can join him. Till the day I can hug him and take him to the west, to some place we both may find rest. I miss you Marcco, rest easy, one day I'll be coming home.

Wow, usually a person would have to spend some serious one on one with a dog to get a feel for them. This is different I feel like I just meet and heard the story of a human military hero. I can't get over his eyes! More people need to see this doc.
Wonderful story. They are serving members of the Armed forces who work very long hours in very difficult situations to save lives. When they retire they should receive life long free vet care, after all they have earned it.

Don't quote me on this but I think here in UK any working animals that are injured in line of duty, even if retired and homed to a civilian family still are cared for by British military vets. I'm not sure however if that includes any and all care or just for any care related to his injury, subsequent treatment and any unforseen future problems stemming from his injuries from his military service 🇬🇧❤️
Kuno is well deserving of the award. He, and other military dogs, are incredible in their devotion to duty, their handlers and their teams. Well done to all those who helped and looked after Kuno. I only have one small criticism and that is he should have been awarded his medal by Her Majesty.

This just fills my heart with joy. I'm very familiar with Kuno's story and this video, amazingly told but still doesn't do justice to every aspect of what went.
Rest of the world, take note. This is how working animals should be cared for. A veteran is a veteran is a veteran.
I also loved that it wasn't just British personal but Americans aswell really worked hard to save this pup.
I'm sure it meant a lot to those Americans who helped and all American soldiers because unfortunately American military dogs seem to be treated as to their capacity as a weapon or a tool so had kuno been a US dog , knowing he could never deploy again they'd probably have not saved him.
The American soldiers though seem have the bond and love for their working animals similar to us Brits so I'm sure they needed zero motivation to help kono stay alive and survive his journey.
Thanks to kono and all British and allied forces for their service and sacrifice 🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧

Kuno is an amazing, brave, loyal boy. Let's be honest, he didn't choose to risk his life, he was ordered to run forward into a hail of bullets and he obeyed his handler. It's hardly surprising he was shot and injured. He bravely continued to obey that order despite his severe injuries. I have no doubt that all of his fellow soldiers love Kuno dearly and I am glad he was given such good care after he was injured, he deserved that without question but I don't agree with the same dog having to endure multiple missions in war zones , it's not fair.

Malinois are very intense, this isn't uncommon. They often will run through gunfire to protect their handler.
