    The Colecovision was my first console, as I had only owned Game & Watches, and other small time handhelds before the CV came along. Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't know if I have a favorite. The best way to decide would be the game I played most I suppose, but no particular game fits that mold for me, as I played most of the games, most of the time. I had 28 games total and all the add-ons when I finally sold my collection to fund my NES purchase, and I never looked back. I guess shows how amazing a console this was for me, as not one game stands out above the rest, just great quality all around.

    Same story as Brian's Man Cave. Neighbor had the Colecovision & I played the Smurf game at his house (I was 8). I was blown away.

    Many great games on the Colecovision and loved playing them with friends and family back in the day. My grandpa enjoyed playing Cosmic Avenger, Venture, and Carnival. It's hard to pick just one favorite, but I always loved Oil's Well and River Raid. Some Colecovision games that I think deserve more recognition:
    Artillery Duel (fun 2-player game; shame there's no CPU opponent)
    BurgerTime
    Frogger
    Mouse Trap
    Oil's Well
    Pepper II
    Q*Bert (Colecovision port is the best Q*Bert port ever)
    River Raid
    Tank War

    Back in the early 80's I was a teenager with a love for video games and my most prized possession was my Atari 2600 which was played daily. One of my friends got an Intellivision in 1981 and that blew me away, but I still preferred the Atari for it's controllers. Then the Colecovision came out. None of my friends got one, but I used to ride my bike to the mall to play it every weekend and I fell in love with Donkey Kong with it's arcade-like graphics. I'd have to say that that memory of playing the demo in the mall all summer pushes me to claim DK is my favorite CV game. Great video as usual Brett! :)

    Mine is an odd choice, but I didn't have a CV or know anyone with one when I was a kid. But after I got back into retro/classic gaming in the early 2000s, one of the games I first tried in emulation that I was impressed with was....
    2010: The Graphic Action Game.
    I've always been a fan of out of the box type games and this one certainly qualifies. It is a staple that I play pretty much any time I power on the CV here at the 'Tower'.

    For me, and not talking aftermarket/indies, I'd save Venture, Frenzy and Carnival for Coleco published titles, for Activision Keystone Capers and H.E.R.O., and then pretty much all of the AtariSoft titles were great on the Coleco - Centipede, Defender, etc.
    You'll have to do a follow-on for favorite aftermarket/indie game!

      14 is pretty old if you are playong video games. You say only 14 cuz she's female or she's way too young to understand? At age 14 you are pretty much a master at video games.

    • @mikejsretroarcade4612
      @mikejsretroarcade4612 2 года назад

      Tony P no to clarify I am pointing that out bc she hardly ever plays video games… she is awesome at that game and enjoys some of my
      Other games I have as well. It’s nice to see a young person such as my
      Daughter appreciate these really old games… they are simplistic but some of the best games ever made in my opinion. And I know coleco was not around for a long time in the 80s, but their graphics are far superior to the Atari2600. It’s my
      Favorite retro system for sure.

      @@mikejsretroarcade4612 You'd be surprised what 14 year olds can do. My nephew who is 13 & he was even younger at age 11. He was doing 1000 piece puzzles. He even knew that you had to do the border first before putting said pieces together.
      Back to the video games though. 14 is an age where you are that mature now to understand said video games. It's great to see a 14 year old female play any type of game. Back in the day I would play video games with females. They would teach me the tips to beat said boxers in Mike Tyson's Punch out.
      So you are saying you like Coleco more than a Nes, Genesis, Snes & Master System?

    • @mikejsretroarcade4612
      @mikejsretroarcade4612 2 года назад

      Tony P yes you are right the kids today are very smart that is for sure. I am def not saying that I like the coleco better than NES, SNES etc… but I like it the most mainly
      Bc of my
      Memories of being 8 years old in 1982 and thinking how awesome the system and graphics were at that time. So the coleco holds a special place in my memories… but that being said I have tons of awesome memories playing Genesis and NES with my friends growing up. I never had Intellivision but I’m sure that system holds lots of memories for lots of people like the coleco
      Did for me.

      @@mikejsretroarcade4612 I was 5 years old in 1982. I don't remember playing any video games or Arcades at that point of my life. I want to say that I started at age 7 playing an Atari. My memory is fuzzy on that. I know for sure I was still playing Atari at age 12. This was with me having a Sega Master System at the time. A friend of my Dad's at the time lent me the Atari with like 50 games at the time. So that's how I played Atari & going to friends houses as well to play that later on.
      You mentioned going to friends houses playing games growing up. I did that as well. I would play Nes, Genesis, Atari & Snes. Genesis I got later on. I was 15 years old when I got the Sega Genesis for Christmas in 1992.
      I had really great experiences & also very bad experiences playing games at said friends houses. It was only until at age 15 when I got the Sega Genesis that my newer friends in high school moving fwd was all a great experience.
      At a very young age, your friends might not let you play the said games, or you have to watch them play a said game even if you don't like the game. Or you were limited to play 1 game they wanted for maybe 1 hour. It didn't happen all the time but it happened enough times to ruin the experience for me.
      Yes like you said the memories are still there.

    I never want to say someone’s opinion is wrong or they are wrong to pick a certain game as a favorite. But Colecovision Smurf is easily one of the five worst games, any system, ever. Me? Donkey Kong, but since that’s too easy a pick, I’ll go with Cosmic Avenger instead.
