As a Texas kid I love that episode. The jokes are funny, and having Sandy beat up Patrick so bad that he literally exploded because he dared to make fun of Texas was hilarious and cathartic

It’s crazy how many of these early episodes aren’t in circulation on TV. There were so many times I would see what on, see SpongeBob is on, switch to it, and be disappointed that it’s the newer episodes.

In the “Rock Bottom” episode, I thoroughly enjoy the moment when Spongebob unintentionally hits the bus driver with his balloon several times, makes me laugh every time.😄 There may be a theory about the bus driver informing the other ones to not let Spongebob board their buses because of that encounter, which causes him to be stuck at Rock Bottom throughout the episode.
Or it's the same bus driver every time 😂

Just to let you guys know, the surface world in this show is portrayed as live action. Even the characters, when dried up, turn into live action versions of themselves, either through puppets or photographic stop motion. Those cutaways with the real squirrel in Sandy's song were flashbacks of her when she lived in Texas. Many future episodes are going to have a lot of fun with this kind of medium shifts.
I saw the “Rock Bottom” episode as a full metaphor of being at your lowest moment (Rock Bottom) and how difficult it is to get out. The whole episode shows Rock Bottom as this deep, dark, and scary pit that’s basically impossible to escape. After trying again and again to get out and failing, Spongebob decided to seek help but even the clearly overworked professional couldn’t help. Being unable to communicate with others and his best friend gone, Spongebob was completely isolated. It was all hopeless until one random stranger performed one act of kindness that was able help Spongebob out of Rock Bottom and safely back home.

And YES. there is absolutely, 100%, no contest that Texas has THE MOST state pride of any state. At the HEB, there are cheese blocks in the shape of Texas along with the chips. If they can make any cookware item in the shape of Texas, it exists. Go to a Residence Inn, they even have Texas shaped Belgian waffle irons

God spongebob seasons 1-3 are fucking GOATED 20 years later. I remember everyone in elementary school would just know the jokes and even today what a show.
When it comes to seasons 1-3 I watched all episodes more than once when I was a kid. That's how much I loved them. I watched the movie 5 or 6 times. That was the golden age of SpongeBob.
These are some of the iconic episodes! Also coincidentally my sister name is Sandy and she lived in Texas at one point. We visited her back in Summer 2017. (It was very hot and humid!)
Also I have a theory that the reason why SpongeBob missed so many busses was because the driver was the same one from before and he was getting revenge for SpongeBob kept hitting him with the balloon and annoying him earlier!
12:55 someone had the theory that the bus driver who dropped SpongeBob off had the other drivers do this on purpose just to mess with him and this guy is on it cos earlier he swipes SpongeBobs candy bar.
Fun fact, in the game "SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom" you can visit Rock Bottom, and if you stop at the Kandy Machine, the bus will whip past you going down the road. My twin and I 100%ed that game back in the day. Tons of fun.

This was the best episode in the original SpongeBob season one Texas, not only am I from Texas but out of the entire SpongeBob seasons not any other state is mentioned only Texas, sure it makes fun of Texas but all references are about Texas which was really funny and I’m glad you guys liked it!!!

Many of those animals in Rock bottom are real deep sea creature. There was a pelican Eel, Dragon fish, Goblin shark, and Angler fish. Makes sense given the creator of SpongeBob studied marine life.
