I Will Always Love You (1992) by Whitney Houston
Charts or not, Alanis Morissette is eternal and evergreen. Her place in music history is very secure. Some artists influence world culture, it goes beyond just their music
Agreed. Alanis shouldn’t even be on this list. She has achieved so much that she deserves a nice long vacation from the crazy industry.
Hellz yeah!!! My friends were in high school when she came out. Damn good times. I remember freakin when I heard she dated dude from FULL HOUSE!! She’s here forever. ✌🏼❤️
Love Alanis, Michell Branch & CEELO.✌🏼❤️
?????
Y'all will be saying this about olivia rodrigo in 20 years. The truth is that if 95% of the public only know you for one album then you certainly fell off
There's nothing wrong with falling off the map. What's important is the impact you made and the happiness you provided a lot of people in the time that you were given.
Alanis Morisette did not really fall of the map. As she got older her mainstream succes got smaller, but she still releases new music and actually her 2020 album got really reviews and charted well when you think about how long she´s been in the industry. Not many 1990´s. music stars can chart well with their albums after so many years. She´s also peforrming all over the world with her tours and performs from time to time with younger pop stars so her relevance is still huge today. 🙂This video was such a nostalgic trip for me. 🙂
that’s literally the definition of falling off the map 💀
that’s not falling off the map her during COVID was massive and did very well
Falling off the map does not mean they stopped doing music you know..
Just that they are not as relevant or active as they used to be!
@@speaknowethansversionher last album was released at #1 on the US rock charts and 16 on billboard. And selling out 2 tours since its release. That is absolutely not falling off the map.
Y'all will be calling olivia rodrigo a legend in the future even though guts flopped and she fell off. The bar is so low
Alanis Morissette defined the 90's Grunge Era, and it was impressive that she Co wrote and recorded "Jagged Little Pill" when she was only 19-20. I'm glad that she's still working in the entertainment industry nowadays, including working on a Broadway musical based on her most famous album.
She is in the The Great North as herself.
Such a great album!!!
Alanis was not grunge. Just because she used guitars in some of her music doesn’t make her apart of the grunge movement. She’s probably more alternative
Love Alanis. She’s not grunge. Alternative was her style. Grunge is nirvana and Pearl Jam.
I love Alanis, and I love the musical “Jagged Little Pill”! The musical was how I was introduced to her!
Alanis is an ICON. No need to be on the charts always. She already did THAT. Jagged Little Pill has already made history.
And then she fell off. That's the whole point of the video. That's like saying olivia rodrigo is an icon because of sour whilst ignoring how bad she fell off afterwards
Alanis Morissette's album, Jagged Little Pill, is one of my all time favorite albums. Who can't relate to "You Oughta Know?"
Thank you. I enjoyed this 😊
Cee Lo Green, BOB and Taio Cruz all scream Early 2010's, and it's a shame that they didn't have more staying power.
CeeLo Green and B.o.B. are still making music although Taio Cruz did fall off.
@dominicwilemancancel culture sissies ruined Ceelo
Michelle Branch made her debut when I was in seventh grade. That was a really rough year for me, but her music helped me get through it (specifically "All You Wanted"). It's always baffled me as to why she was never more popular.
I miss Michelle Branch, man. I haven't followed Olivia Rodrigo's music very closely, but she reminds me of how much I miss her.
Like Olivia, she was ANOTHER half-Asian American pop rock chick who ALSO released HER debut single about romance that became the biggest hit of her career AND songwriting AND album debut at just 18, which was just 20 YEARS PRIOR!!! Not to mention, she ALSO paved the path for other pop rock teen artists to follow, including Avril a year later! She's the only Asian American music act I can think of who crossed over between pop, rock, country and adult contemporary charts. And I just finished listening to what should've been her 2010s follow-up album West Coast Time and it sounded like we were robbed of hearing her natural evolution into a music vet.
Imo, talent means nothing to have a successful career if you don't have just as strong of a management team. Taylor should bless her lucky stars she has one. Especially since she herself idolized Michelle Branch, owning a blue guitar because of her and even covering All You Wanted at Michelle's birth-state of Arizona! Screw Warner Bros Records for ruining her career.
Todd in the Shadows released a Song Vs Song episode on RUclips. And I wanted to make some suggestions.
Two of my suggestions were All You Wanted Vs I'm With You or Are You Happy Now? vs My Happy Ending
Two great breakup songs from two different rocker girls who were growing from teenhood to adulthood at the same time but fell off for different but still sad reasons.
Michelle Branch is not pop. She’s a contemporary artist
Her new stuff is even better.
@@popmans9999it might be good lyrically but tbh I want the old Michelle sound back. Her new album isn't catchy at all.
Alanis has not fallen off the map. She released a new album last year. She's still loved by her fans!
Aka 50+ year old hags. nobody under 30 knows who she is other than olivia rodrigo who will end up exactly like her anyway
I think you missed someone that came to my head which was colbie caillat.
Katy Perry should be on this list for sure! Like she kind of fell off the map after 2014! The Chainsmokers should be on this list, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen, Jesse McCartney, Kesha, Bazzi, Wiz Khalifa, Jojo, Daya, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Robin Thicke, Lorde, Alessia Cara, Jason Derulo, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Leona Lewis, James Arthur, James Blunt, Ne-Yo, etc.
In what universe has Julia Michaels fallen off the map? She wrote songs for Disney's Wish!
2017*
I don’t think Kesha, Wiz Khalifa and Jason Derulo have completely fallen off the map.
Dude 90% of those artists you mentioned are still making and/or producing music 😂.
@DateMike22 yes
But they don't dominate the charts like they used to
Which is sad
I miss all of these singers dominating the chart
Man, I feel old, listening to some of these songs again.
Watching this video makes me sad, bc Nelly Furtado fell so deep off the map she wasn't even an honorable mention 🥲
I remember most of these artists i used to listen to LeAnn Rimes’s country music when she was younger and I wasn’t that into country but her songs for a pretty nice and vitamin C. I remember she did this song called vacation for Pikachu‘s vacation the Pokémon short film, her graduation friends forever song got me emotional when I first heard it and I loved listening to it it’s a really beautiful song.
I'm still here for Sheryl Crow! Underrated queen
Currently, Alanis Morissette has moved into voice acting with a recurring role as Judy Tobin’s “spirit guide” in the Fox series The Great North
So happy you mentioned this. LOVE that show!!
@@kjcook5840 i dont really like it at all
Left of the Middle was iconic.
I think Dev should be on this list too, I thought she was going to have a huge career in the 2010s.
To be fair, Crow is now 61. She's semi-retired, not a music industry cautionary tale.
Agreed. In her prime, she had a nice long run!
Completely with all the entities in this list.
Lold at including Alanis.
Also I think Alexis Jordan who was best known for the song “Happiness.” should be on this list too.
Too bad for them, they deserved better recognition, too good this top gave them that recognition. Happy friday, Saraah, take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
Didn't Sheryl Crow officially retire? That's not "falling off the map"... And Alanis Morisette is still very well known.
She never “retired” she just announced back in 2019 she’s done making albums but she just announced she’ll be releasing one in March! Go listen to the first song “alarm clock” 😊
That's good news, thanks for the info!@@andrewdawn
ha ha ha i love the statements related to their top hits 😂
Sean Kingston, he became famous for his song Beautiful Girls and even got to collaborate with Justin Bieber but a fatal accident ended his career
This is from an earlier peiod than what you've covered, but the quintessential "fell off the map" for me is Cathy Dennis. Four Top Ten hits from her debut record, then her follow-up floundered. And we thought that was that... She goes on to co-write Can't Get You Out of My Head, Toxic and I Kissed a Girl. She did alright. 😅
loved Jewel
I miss B.O.B those songs stayed stuck in my head
I had the honor of seeing Jewel with Train & Blues Traveler. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen! Train & Jewel did a cover of “Dancing Queen” and I loved it.
Not to mention, Cee-Lo Green, Jewel and LeAnne Rimes appeared on The Masked Singer, with Cee-Lo Green appearing in the UK adaptation and Jewel and LeAnne Rimes appeared in the american adaptation. Don't forget Natasha Bedingfield, who appeared in the american adaptation. BTW, other pop stars who fell off the map did we missed:
Jesse McCartney
Rachel Platten
Sheila E.
Gloria Gaynor
Jason Mraz
James Blunt
JoJo
Ne-Yo
Jordin Sparks
Faith Evans
Debbie Gibson
etc.
I saw Sheila E. live a few weeks ago, she didn’t fall off. She just didn’t feel like “The Glamorous Life” of a pop star was for her. Debbie Gibson did fall off as a pop star, but has moved on to just producing and engineering. Both Sheila and Debbie stayed behind the scenes, so I salute them for their talent.
@@evangelistamono2200 Yep.
Ummm, Sheryl Crow has the greatest publicist of all time and has shown up on every awards ceremony, tribute concert, induction ceremony, New Years special, cruise ship christening, building opening, and garage sale for the last 30 years.
She also does the tribute concerts AT the awards show. She's like Six Degrees of Austin City Limits.
I miss Taio Cruz 🥹❤️
Me too
He was my childhood
I never thought Vitamin C would fall off the map prior to my 2007 high school graduation. And I always thought that "Hangover" led to Taio Cruz's downfall due to crude content.
Alanis is eternal
Christina Perri should also be on this list too.
I miss Taio Cruz.
Fr I was SUCH a fan of him back in the day
I was a big fan of Natasha Bedingfield when I was in my teens. I still go back and listen to her music when I need a pick-me-up, or when I'm in a good mood, because most of her songs are so upbeat, positive, and in a way, innocent. It's like a friend patting you on the back and telling you everything will be ok.
I loved me some Michelle Branch and Alantis Morissette
Far East Movement This Asian Themed Music group was my favorite early In the 2010's but after J-Spliff left the group we haven't seen hyde or hair of them
Im so happy to hear that vitamin c is doing well in her life 😊
Michele Branch’s 2015 record “Hopeless Romantic” is a really good alternative soft rock album.
but still doesnt change the fact that its a flop
@@jackyfrom_usa522 It should have done better!
Have not heard of at least three on this list!
I miss Ceelo Green I loved his music
He was my childhood
I read the title as "who fell off the earth" and I thought, oh they fell off the edge, so the earth is indeed flat!
What about Ashlee Simpson and Fergie?
Sheryl Crow??? She's in the hall of fame. like ...
Sheryl Crow... (shaking his head) A sad day today.
love like ur vids!
... after edit... Alanis!!
Welcome to Ms Mojoooooo😂😂😂
Alanis morissette has a musical of her music. She’s absolutely iconic.
Jagged Little Pill is as magical now as it was when first released.
It's literally just sour by olivia rodrigo if it was released in the 1990's. One album wonder
Don't know if you know (or care), but Jewel was also a winner on The Masked Singer.
Seems kind of weird to say one catapulted back into relevance thanks to the show while sweeping the one right before it on your list under the rug.
PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE THIS WAY from LEANNE RIMES is one of my FAVORITE COUNTRY SONGS EVER yo... just 😊❤
Surprised I didn't see Ashlee Simpson or Jessica Simpson on the list.
I ABSOLUTELY ❤'D NATALIE IMBRUGLIA'S song IDENTIFY from the STIGMATA SOUNDTRACK yo... A MYSTERIOUS MASTERPIECE ❤
I saw Alanis in concert in 2021 aling with thousands of others. I also enjoy her 2020 album. Songs dedicated to her kids but also same life struggles. Wouldn't say she is off the map at all.
Pitbull 😂 don’t kill me
Multi grammy award winner Norah Jones was not included on the list
I still listen to Alanis, the Reasons I Drink is an amazing song
The 1st song I heard of taio was she like a star
My favourite:
-alanis morissette 💜
-natalie imbruglia 💜
-michele branch 💜
Vanessa Carlton’s 2015 album “Lieberman” is a really nice soft pop/ alternative album. It showcases her awesome piano skills, and I like how her voice sounds now in California.
jay sean should be on this list! he released a few hits and then disappeared
My list:
#10. B.O.B
#09. Leona Lewis
#08. DEV
#07. Marina The Diamonds
#06. Florence The Machine
#05. Ne-Yo
#04. Taio Cruz
#03. Sean Kingston
#02. Cheryl Cole
#01. Akon
Honorable mentions: M.Y.A, Tove Lo, Pitbull, Travis McCoy, Celoo Green, Jessie J, Kerri Hillson, Emeli Sande, Jessie Ware, Jess Glynne, Nelly Furtado, Olly Murs, Cris Cab, Cher Lloyd, Train, Cody Simpson, Passenger, Götie, Mag!c, Austine Mahone, R. City, Kat Deluna & Missy Eliot.
Alaniss music only got more interesting and experimental after Jagged little pill. Her follow up album was her best. But society doesnt treat well women who burst outside the box that they have been put in. Very few female artists sre give permission to adsptsnd evolve as they grow
A lot of these people except Ceelo Green and Alanís Morrisette and a few others, are one hit wonders! After the blow up of his old(Ceelo Green)song,"call me", he needs to consider putting out new music!
Actually Ceelo Green has been around since the mid-1990's. He was a member of the southern hip-hop group Goodie Mob, which released five albums between 1996 and 2005 before he hooked up with DJ Danger Mouse to form Gnarls Barkley, which released the hit song "Crazy". It was after that song blew up when he went solo, but it would take a few years before he had the hit song "F*** U".
Macy Gray, Alannis, Sheryl, Nelly Furtado, Dido
Stars? 😂 Half of them are unknown people
5:40 Cee-Lo Was Also Part of the Hip-Hop Group, Goodie Mob
where is Gabriella Cilmi ?
I wouldn't say they fell off the map, it's the styles changed and so did the trends. Let's also say that unlike the 90s, music isn't very Variety based and thats okay but thats what the kids like.
30 years ago, you had a jukebox on radio dance, Rock, R&B and pop, all different sounds and style on the radio..
Alanis is iconic and doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. ‘Jagged Little Pill’ inspired a musical after all.
Ppl forget cee-lo green has a good rap career prior to Gnarls n his solo career as he was a member of the group goodie mob
Where's lmfao
It’s almost impossible to stay on the charts. Not even The Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney can get a top 40 radio hit these days. Drake, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber will have faded in 5 years. It has nothing to do with an artist, That’s just the nature of the music business
yeah when the fan bass who follow them 24/7 grew up and has a family or a busy job the artist fade away, only few manage to grab the new generation
@@hair4571 It really has nothing to do with the artist. The music business is even more competitive and limited than Hollywood movies. You have a better chance of being the next Meryl Streep in a blockbuster movie than having a top 40 record
I would also put Katy Perry on this list. She was everywhere at the start of the 2010's and had chart topping hit after chart topping hit and after Witness she's had moderate success but not anywhere near what she was before.
I honestly think that the Num 1 position should go to Dido!! She is someone that is really off the maps nowadays. Alanis has recently recorded a cover of 'Last Christmas ' and she is being invited to many TV shows
What about Liz Phair and Dido?
I have never heard of Magic.
They had the song "Rude". One hit wonders
You've got two other Masked Singer winners on this list but only mentioned it for Imbruglia.
Hahaha 😂 where are these stars , at the sky ? I guess.
I suspect a number of artists keep working and have a fan base. They just refused to continue working within the pop music meat grinder.
They're probably glad to be out of the public eye, fame can be a pain in the ass!
Since when is Sheryl Crow a pop star?
La Rue’s music style changed so much because after the success of the first album, and the producer change, she was given more freedom to do what she wanted with music. It’s a shame it didn’t do as well commercially, because I actually think it’s better than the first album.
why'd Sheyel disappear and Alanis
I wish you'd tell us WHY they stopped producing records.
Maybe bc of lack of promotion or the fact that they got bored of fame
Skee Lo after dropping I Wish in 1995
Better a one hit wonder than a zero hit wonder!
I disagree. I'd rather stan charli d'amelio than alanis
I love Michelle Branch
I haven't even heard of half of these people before.
Where is Christina Agarlia on this list ?
Avril Lavigne, I love her and all her albums but...2010s onward haven't been very kind to her since the Best Damn Thing
I miss Vitamin C!
Gotta say this video was kinda missed the mark (IMHO). One BIG example of wrong is Alanis Morrisette.Alanis has a Broadway show. Jagged Little Pill is a major musical. May not be new music, but definitely not off the map. There are SO many that could be on here that were listed in the comments. This video gets a big 'ol X (complete with loud buzzing sound) from me
She's irrelevant now considering how big she was in the mid 1990's. That's like saying olivia rodrigo (the alanis of the 2020's) will forever be popular because of sour whilst ignoring that she never came close to its success again. She's literally a one album wonder
Most of these artists continue through their whole lives producing music that may be just as good. It's not the quality that usually separates the mega famous from other musicians, but having a huge marketing budget invested by a label. Often the main determiner of an artist that "disappears" is 100% about whether an executive at a major music studio decides to continue pumping funds into marketing on an artist. Often, it's more about the fact that an artist gets too big and they gain too much power to negotiate a better contract. Then it's easier to take a nobody and offer them a few peanuts to turn them into a star with those marketing funds instead.
I’d say that 98% of these artists I have never heard of and I’m 61.
Vitamin C is still available in pills and chewables! Also in many foods, so there 😅😅😅
You can probably copy/paste much of the 80s into this video
LaWho?
