  • In this Bonsai Video, we are Repotting A Split Trunk Cotoneaster Bonsai! Cotoneaster is a great choice for Bonsai because of their small leaf profile and fast growth rate.
    Today we are working on three different cotoneaster trees. One with berries that has a good Nebari, one with a split trunk, and one that is Mame sized. Repotting cotoneaster is best done in early spring before the tree begins to flower. This timing helps the tree adjust smoothly to its new pot without interrupting its growth cycle too much, ensuring it stays healthy and happy.
    Cotoneaster as a species are great for Bonsai as they have small leaves, delicate branches, and attractive flowers and berries, which lend themselves well to intricate shaping and styling.

    Every time I watch a video, the whole time I'm telling the tv "look at that!" "Look what he did with that!" and "isn't that just amazing." The whole video, every video. Maybe now that I'm sharing, I'll start saying something else.
    I'll keep everyone posted. ✌🏼

    Good to see back doing videos, I find cotoneasters make great little trees I have some in different styles, they are fun to work with, boy do we need to fun at the moment as the weather is not sure what season we are in, I have a maple in full leaf already plus a few not far behind. All the best with your trees

      Hey thanks Joe! 😊 They sure are fun ones as they're so resilient and grow fast. Oh noo that's not good! I hope your trees are okay after this super early start! I have heard that some Azalea and rhododendron flowers are already wilting this time of year 😅

      Thank you very much! I try to be as informative as possible! The plan now is to let the tree get healthy, grow like crazy and let the roots fill the pot before we prune again! 😀🌳❤

    You mentioned it being cold where you are - I'm in Philadelphia-PA-USA - we are still in winter we have been in the 40sF. Is it too early to repot before they really wake up? I have a Cotoneaster that is begging for attention. Thanks

    • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  4 месяца назад

      Ahh Philadelphia can definitely get chilly in the winter! In general, it's best to wait until after the last frost and when temperatures consistently stay above freezing before repotting your bonsai trees, especially if they're still in dormancy.
      Since your Cotoneaster is showing signs of needing attention, you might consider waiting just a bit longer until temperatures start to warm up a bit more consistently. Repotting too early while the tree is still dormant can shock it and potentially harm its health.
      Keep an eye on the weather forecast and wait for a stretch of milder temperatures before proceeding with repotting. Once spring is in full swing and your Cotoneaster begins to show signs of new growth, that's usually a good indicator that it's safe to proceed with repotting.🌱🌿
