Ft Stevens campground at the right time.(or wrong time) is mosquito hell! I go there 1-2 times a year. The best hike to the Iredale and back. Safe but long hike. It's wonderful!
Loved this one. I remember going to all those places as a kid, the beauty of the unique beach, hiking trails from the campground to the beach, the Iredale, the fort. Thank you for the walk down memory lane.
Just another great video guys! Too bad about the trail being blocked off by construction. I love the Oregon coast. But it’s been decades since I’ve been out that way. So thank you for taking us along for the ride. Loved the close up of Pistol snarfing the green beans. Long live the Green Bean Queen!!! Hope all is well?! Carey On!
All the places we explored last July! And we ran into you all at Safeway. Astoria Tower was one of our favorites and we went at 5:30 a.m. No one but us and watched the sunrise! Beautiful!
We were there last year. There are two herds of elk in the park. We woke up one morning surrounded by Elk! They were laying in the empty campground right across from us. This was in October. They hung around for over an hour before they slowly moved off. Probably 30 elk! I just sat in my chair drinking my coffee. They said it was unusual for them to be in the campground. We went to Fort Clatsop when we left. Where Lewis & Clark spent the winter. Worth a trip. Great fun!
We've been across that bridge over the Columbia river. We went up to sea relatives in Port Angeles up interstate 5 and came down on the coast and traveled over that bridge, and it is quite spectacular.
Great video! We just spent spring break camping at Cape Disappointment and spent an afternoon at Fort Stevens. Got some great footage there! This part of the Pacific Coast warrants a good long stay, as there is SO much to do! We go back every year to the coast, and always come away wanting to see more. Thanks guys!
So hauntingly beautiful that shipwreck "shell" left behind...pretty cool! I love that you really look into the history and share with us! Total history geek here LOL Carey on...
That shipwreck is getting less & less over the years - so cool to see it! We crossed a few small bars in Mexico - this one would be frightening. We stayed at that state park years ago - our old Lab like swimming in Coffin Bury Lake there (icky lake name). The river looks serene from above.
So sad you missed seeing the ocean and river meet, such a beautiful spot. If you looked west as you crossed over the bridge you would see a view of it as well.
I grew up visiting all those sites and remember the Peter Iredale being much bigger. Battery Russell is a BIG part of my childhood. It’s almost always deserted. (They didn’t fire back to keep their location hidden.) Imagine how amazing that place is to kids. Wonderfully scary! The Astoria Column used to be called the Astor Column, after John Jacob Astor. We used to spit off it as kids.
There is so much to see on the northern coast. The tower is very cool what I liked was the artwork all around it. The Astoria museum is really neat too! Pistol is so chill. 💕
We love the Astoria area, and often camp at Ft Steven. Hope you made it up to the Astor Column, great views from up there. Looking out across Young's Bay and the airport all the way to Saddle Mt. Did you stop in Seaside on the way up? You can visit the Salt Citrin where Lewis and Clark got salt from the sea water, and then at Astoria there is Fort Clatsop where Lewis and Clark spent the Winter. Safe travels.
I love Oregon m, I met the most amazing woman there and unfortunately she’s a widow and she wasn’t ready for a relationship so she broke my heart. She turned me on to Oregon and it’s my favorite state in the union. I currently live in Wisconsin
Next time add Cape Disappointment and Ft Columbia to your list. It’s a left turn after you cross the Astoria-Megler Bridge. I promise, you won’t be disappointed!
For the uninitiated (or vegetarian or vegan), a corn dog is made with cornbread batter and a Pronto Pup is made with flour or pancake batter. Corn dogs are considered sweet; Pronto Pups are not.
Corn meal batter vs flour (hair towards pancake) batter. I prefer the corn meal batter. Hope you guys can hit the MN state fair some day, where many things are served on a stick. Love when your in Oregon. We've family all over Portland & adore the coastline. We used to camp (van) years ago on the beach in Rockaway.
You should have seen the wreck 25 years ago, it was much bigger. We have years of memories of our kids at Fort Stevens. The trail between the campgrounds and the fort is an excellent run.
I have to ask, How many years ago did you go there? There was a cannon where you walked up in the beginning of the video and they do Tours underground 15 years ago. I grew up around there.
@@gregschwartz8977 This strange comment doesn’t warrant a response but there is Nothing fake in this video. I wish the cannons were still there. Maybe your thinking of one of the other many batteries at ft Steven’s. Battery Russell in this video is as it appears here. Sorry
Love the close up of Pistol eating green beans. LOL! The chewing sounds make us laugh. You have probably answered this many times, but why does Pistol have 4 pink toenails?
We’ve have talked about it a few times. Her arthritis causes her to drag her feet when she walks and it wears her nails down too far. We glue on these caps to protect them. All hail the green bean queen 😉😂
My least favorite bridge!! I get death grip hands every time.. welcome back to Washington! We will be along Oregon coast in August. May check out the tower!
Well....if we could make an educated guess, the batter is different (pronto pup vs corndog). We had a pronto pup in Idaho, it wasn't our favorite. We LOVED The Corndog Company corndogs better. I think Corndogs have a sweeter batter. So it's going to be a personal taste preference. ❤
Hi you three. I see you are on the Columbia River at the bottom of Okanagan, lake Osoyoos Lake, Similkeen River which goes down to the Columbia. Peace Reigns, and the biological attack is proven beyond a shadow of doubt. So now its wrapping up . The attack from Japanese uncouth. We do live in Peace with our neighbors. Have a good day dears. Carolyn d Hogarth Canada.
I was born 30yrs after the end of WWII, and Fort Stevens has been in ruins my whole life, I don’t buy the official story. It’s large stone refaced in concrete, with newer added concrete stairs and metal railings. I believe it’s FAR older than we’re told.
Ft Stevens campground at the right time.(or wrong time) is mosquito hell! I go there 1-2 times a year. The best hike to the Iredale and back. Safe but long hike. It's wonderful!
We work across the street at the KOA. We hang out at Fort Stevens and even got married last year at the shipwreck.

Cool! We almost drove thru the koa. Next time:)

We are at Fort Stevens now. Take in the maritime museum in Astoria if you have time. Great museum!

we used to live in Astoria - love Ft. Stevens! the astoria column is great! the megler bridge is awesome -
Just there a month ago. There is another road with parking lot where you can get out and walk onto the jetty

And then there are days like today when it rains 2 inches and blows 20-30 mph🤷♂️😂
Proto pup is a corn dog that started out in Oregon and now everyone makes their own version of the corn dog
I took a paddle wheeler cruise down the Columbia River. An amazing area.
So hauntingly beautiful that shipwreck "shell" left behind...pretty cool! I love that you really look into the history and share with us! Total history geek here LOL Carey on...
Glad you enjoyed it

That is kind of a creepy name for a lake😂

The ship is getting smaller with every tide change;)

Walked that same trail last August, couldn’t get to the Columbia River !😊😊
Great history lessons, thank you.
I feel like I am back in the military. At ease, carry on. I know it's spelled differently.
Carey On!!🙌😉

I hope you do see the Astoria Column it is beautiful on the outside! Painted with historical scenes about the region and Lewis & Clark .
We will!😉
The Corn Dog was invented at Pronto Pup in Rockaway Beach.
Oh yeah, have you seen the Spruce Goose? It's at Evergreen Museum in McMinnville OR.
Driven by countless times but never stopped. 🤷♂️🤦♂️😂

One of our favorite camping places.
Would have liked to kayak the lake but you know….super windy:)

Dave ran quite a bit and enjoyed the loop around the lake.
My dad called them pronto pups! And we are in Virginia.
You should have dug some razor clams there at Fort Stevens on the low tide. We will be there Wednesday.
No low tides when we were there but you should have good tides this week. We may try in Newport;)
Thank you 👋🙂
You’re welcome 😊
I also heard that the original “ Pronto Pup ” was made here in Oregon .
I heard it was in Otis, Oregon but I don’t really know for sure:)
Yes it is. That was my very first job. Many years ago. I now live in astoria 😊@CareyOnVagabond
Very very nice video 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Morten! 🙌
Did you check out the Maritime Museum in Astoria? It's pretty interesting.
Not this time.

It was last month. I bet it has changed a lot!
@CareyOnVagabond yeah I am pretty sure it hasn't, you're not the first one that is just trying to get subscribers for fake content.

I had not heard of glue on nail protectors for dogs. Great idea. Give Pistol a green bean from me. 🫛🫛

I sent a message on instagram about another WWII attack in Oregon you might find interesting.
Very cool, thanks Joe.

Don't forget about the Japanese ballon bomb that exploded down around Bly Oregon and killed about 7 people.
I'm proud to call Oregon home.
(but I absolutely HATE it's tyrannical government)
