I have a back stock of Cleveland RTG...(Raw Tour Grind)...and Titleist Raw Steel Milled wedges from years ago. I get plenty of spin and love the patina they get after use!
My old Cleveland 588 RTG's are the king of rust issues, I wipe them down with steel wool,, or polish them using fine sandpaper. Love that polished non glare look!
I've been playing the Jaws Raw & Full Toe this year and I absolutely love them! I also have a set of SM9 Vokeys and I feel I have more spin off the Callaway and better feel.
Always had a reservation about the full toe grooves. At anything near a full swing a toe strike is still going to create face displacement and (side) spin. Surely adding even more backspin is likely to make the dispersion effect of the toe strike worse rather than better with spin across two axes.....
Lol. No such thing as 'side spin' on a golf ball when hit with any club (apart from a crazy strike with a putter). The ball will always launch with backspin. The 'side spin' is actually the tilt of the ball from vertical, left or right..hence a draw/hook or fade/slice depending on degree of tilt.
I’m sure they don’t spin much more than they used to but I’ll tell you what - I freaking love the full toe wedges and have them in 54 and 60 because the soles are absolutely perfect for me. I can play both either square or open them up any amount I want. They’re flawless
Jaws Raw… Raw Jaws… whatever they’re called, they’ve got a good aesthetic. Would love the grooves all the way to the end of the blade. I would probably prefer the whole thing to rust myself, just so that there’s matching patina. The greens I usually play on don’t usually require me to hit tons of spin, but it’s fun to see how to cheat it! LOL
I played those with the 2009 X forged irons. Had to stop playing the wedges, as you say they just chewed up golf balls. Used to have to scape out the urethane from the grooves!!
Full face grooves…maybe tour led? I know the pros play little chips from the toe sometimes so it releases which it would do less with full face. Maybe that’s the reason? No idea 🤷♂️
They hit from the toe to increase spin. The ball comes off the face slower when struck from the toe which allows them to swing the club faster. Speed is one of the most important factors to create spin
I think Jack Nicklaus said that when pitching or chipping near a green always try to take practice swings near a bunker to pick up some sand.

Love the leading edge grinds on these wedges.

I wonder the spin from a raw wedge with a Wilson staff R ball would be. Something rough against something matte.
Tuesday night league, June through July, hole #2. Sun is always at a perfect angle to shine off my wedge in my eyes.
I believe there is a high toe version that has full face grooves

Worth upgrading my current Jaws MD5 wedges?
Challenge… Love the challenges!!!
Thank you.
Love my md wedges. Great review
Well done mark 👏 👍

Callaway does make a Full Toe Raw Wedge that has the grooves all across the face. It only comes with a “C” grind
Matt, he used his chipper when you weren't looking...Hahaha
Marketing hype! Peace boys!🙏

I don’t like a full rusted club or even a full rusted face, but a standard face where that’s all that rusted I think actually looks good.
In my mind allowing rust creates inconsistency as it is non uniform. Surely consistency is all important?
Basically it males no difference at all to be fair. More the look.
Mr Jack Nicholas I think was the legend that said not to clean the face post bunker shot
Nothing spins like the old now non-conforming Mac Daddy X-series Jaws which used to shred balls. Those things were beasts...

@@JackWheats that’s the low toe of the grooved area though not the toe area missing grooves
im gonna ask for a sand finish next wedge
It was Gary Player who left the sand on his wedges
Sometimes I hit a toe shot to get some roll out.
Got it.. Clean the grooves, not the face. 😂😂
Will stick to my chipper thanks very much keep up the good work
I never clean my LW after hitting a bunker shot.
I understand the whys/nots of full face grooves. But I prefer the look of a traditional face. Full face grooves just look weird to me.
Don't some pro's try and hit wedges way out of the toe around the green to keep spin off by avoiding some grooves?
Not exactly - usually low toe to keep spin up & ball speed down for delicate shots.
So if grooves on the whole face of a wedge is benefit more than not, why don't normal irons have grooves along the whole face then? Aesthetics only?
Think about straight face to lofted face. They are trying to do different jobs in relation to the ball slipping up the face.
@@MarkCrossfield ok so it's not a point of more grooves = more forgiveness rather less drop off in spin for a wedge?
They make a full toe version
I do hope Mark isn't insinuating that golf companies may not be 100% honest with us 🤣
Definitely gonna stop knocking the sand off my wedges after a bunker shot 😂
You don't need so many wedges old boys, pitch & sand is all that's needed!!!!
Pitching wedges aren’t 49 degrees anymore, the 2 wedge set is dead.
Yep, full toe wedges are hideous, can't stand them. Love these wedges and the old jaws md5
Ask anyone vokey spin more 🙄
Yes that was sarcasm before ya'll message me
It’s called marketing…sorry.
