Even the prices your girl friend picked, I was a bit surprised. I was living under a rock. Thanks for moving my rock. I will budget a bigger number than $150 USD. ~ 9,000 peso per month. I am thinking 2X. Maybe 20,000 peso per month to live comfortably. That is under the number you are paying where you are. But, I give you credit for having class. That is worth something. If you have the money, why not? You take nothing to the grave. I liked the first property that your girl friend picked. As a note, you did not tell us where these properties were relative to food markets, or the center of the nearest town. No matter. Very helpful to get my rock moved. Good job. 😄
Nice spread of rentals. Having rented up and down the spread the best target is about 400-500 USD a month. 3-4 bedroom 2-3 cr. I rented a home in a premium gated community once for a little more. Truly beautiful home, neighborhood was well maintained. The home backed up to the rather very low end homes. The music, thump, thump, thump, started Friday afternoon and ended mid Sunday. It literally shook the walls on my rental. There are noise pollution laws however you can’t or better not be the complaining expat. The drive in after 4 PM was disastrous with the street vendors filling the only street to get in or out down to one lane. I did manage to finish my lease and promptly moved. Expect to fix a lot of things no matter the rental, electrical being the biggest issue I’ve found as most rentals are not setup for pulling more power than a single 1hp Aircon, a tv and a small refrigerator, and a single 10 watt bulb in each room, no matter the size of the rental, good thing electricians are pretty cheap. Just find a good area, fix what’s needed out of your own pocket then kick back, relax and don’t stress out about all the little things that constantly pop up. Last but not least make sure if you’re in a gated community the rental owner pays the HOA dues, not you, they own it.
In October I plan on flying to the Philippines, my first time there. I have no expectations; I just want to go there and wing it. I will have a monthly budget of about $4000. I am thinking of spending between two weeks to a month in all parts of the Philippines for about a year until I decide where I want to eventually stay. Do you think that will be a good plan?
@@FlyMeToThePhilippines Wow, very impressive, I can see she's very dilligent. You make an outstanding team, keep up the good work and all the best wishes to both of you!!!
I want to live in a beach province with little to no expats around and absolutely no malls nearby. On Mondays-Sundays I want to wake up and bump uglies then coffee and bacon. Morning kayaking and snorkeling and afternoon naps. Then diner time and fishing.
Well I'm not a partner I don't do the bar seen. I like small towns so I think the province places would be good for me . All I'd need is a 1 bed maybe 2 and full bath kitchen and living room. And with me when I retire I'd like to be able just to go look at places when I fill like it. Maybe some hot springs or snorkeling.
I'd like to see you address the needs of someone who wants to take his time in adjusting to the Philippines. I envision employing someone to cook and clean my apartment until I figure out a longterm plan. Assume a monthly income of $5K. I envision living initially in Manila, prior to moving to an area with a beautiful beach. Does this make sense.
Whats the point retiring in PH if you have to live in a gated community with armed guards and barb wires and attack dogs in the front yard? Unable to go outside. And you have to pay $2-3k for that lifestyle? You could live somewhere in lower Louisiana on the same budget and have access to all amenities like gyms, libraries, parks, pools etc without all philippino riffraff.
You don’t have to I just choose to because it’s my first year in country and better safe than sorry many ex-pats live in regular homes amongst common neighborhoods. The dogs are not tact dogs but they’re used as a security system against theft I used to live in Louisiana, and I much prefer living here in the Philippines with a 30-year-old Filipina at my side, thanks for viewing our video and taking the time to comment and share
Hi Guys. Really like your videos. I am going to retire in the Philippines in a year. I currently live on 5 acres nice home in Alabama. I hate noise like you Rob, Lol! Can you recommend places in the province where people don’t live on top of each other? I like beach and mountains but love seclusion. I am fine being an hour or so away from a small town medium city for medical. I liked Camiguin island but wanted to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
We haven’t been to Camiguin Island yet but we have a friend who moved away because medical care was not what he needed. Feel free to send me an email link in the description box.

Good video with lots of info in it if you are real quick to catch it all. I think I heard you say you like to be in upper elevation, do you know anywhere that is as high as Baguio and still safe for Americans? I would live in Baguio but it is a little too populated and very pricy for real estate. I would like to buy some farmland in the mountains in the upper elevation somewhere. Also looking for more farmland close to the water in a great area. Thanks for sharing! Your wife is right you are paying too much for rent. I think expats that are retiring to the philipines wan't a place that is peaceful away from roosters and nasty dogs and road noises and annoying trikes selling food and smelly crap. The best kind of service or you tube channel would be one who can investigate theese places and find the best subdivisions that expats would like quiet and respectful neighbors in fact i would pay for a service like this.
You put out great videos. I am starting to talk with a lady from CDO. You mentioned the uptown area. What barangay is that in, or general location for it ? I think the lady is in Lumbia and is a little south of what the uptown area is but not entirely sure of the locations.

I pay $360 US dollars a month for a 45 sq meter one bedroom apartment electricity, A/C, heat included in St. Paul, MN. I can live well with food and very little cost of living otherwise. So if I can do that in the USA then I could pay $360 and live okay there but I'd have to have traveler's health insurance and how much is that a month for a Senior? I am 70 and in reasonable physical condition. I commute by bicycle and on days I'm not doing errands I ride 20 miles for exercise in 1hr and 45 minutes.
