DJI Osmo Action 4 is way ahead in terms for video capturing.
DJI itself is way way way ahead of GoPro. GoPro had one and only job which is to improve on their action camera but it seems they are pretty stuck for the last few years with their boring design.
DJI on the other hand have tried something different on OSMO AC2 (yes heating issue) which they manage to resolved and improved on AC3 (then came the lens issue with focusing issues). With AC4, they finally resolves all the old issues and it's probably the best action camera in the market for the masses.

  • @chrisbennett5796
    @chrisbennett5796 8 месяцев назад +7

Both look like amazing cameras, but I can't see past the image quality difference. The DJI OA4 seems to have an issue with blown out highlights. If you look at the edge of the tree against the sky, there is a burned out halo. It shows on the path and skin tones too. The Hero 12 has much smoother tone gradient. With the backlit, shadow test at the end of the video, there is just no comparison. The DJI flares much more too.
This video points out a lot of advantages to the DJI Osmo Action 4 (and very few to the Hero 12), but on image quality, I'm going for the Hero 12. I will also be getting that lens mod 2.0 too, which looks like a great addition.

I was recently in the market to upgrade from Hero 7's and decided on the Action 4. Better mounting system, faster quick record (that works every time and also lets you cancel the shut down), quick setting button, front touch screen, external mic compatibility without requiring an adapter. With the GoPro I had multiple cameras so I didn't have to deal with thumb screws switching it between mounts. With the Action 4 I only need one camera and it takes me a few seconds to move it to another mount. I'll never go back.

Yeah, so any "action camera" at high frame rates will overheat when sitting still (no airflow) in the sun. But the good news is since you're moving around from shot to shot, if you just want slow-mo shots to watch later you're shooting for a short duration and either will do well in that regard.

Well Done, thank you. I have the gopro 8 and I am convinced to to the GP12, one reason is I like to use the Volta. I recently bought the ace pro and I don't like the sharpness at all. The dji is only better for filming still in high heat and low light. GoPro 12 does not overheat ever even filming for hours with 2 batteries as long as you are moving a little . It looks pretty fragile on the side. I've done the above with the GoPro 9 and media mod with no issues. So when I was faced with this choice I went with the GoPro 12. I was coming from the super buggy glitchy crap known as the GoPro 9 but I wanted to give it one final chance since my GoPro 6 was great before that one.
I’ve been using the GP12 a LOT since I got it and it hasn’t had a single issue! I even just went to an air show and filmed several times 35 minute sets at 4k 60 in the hot Florida sunshine and it never overheated!
This was GoPro’s last chance for me and it’s really winning me back ! Happy with my purchase.
Also, the DJI magnet mounts are my go-to mounting option once I got a DJI GoPro foot set from Ulanzi, so that bonus of the Action 4 is a moot point now.

@@PatchedBandit so far my 12 has been in 94 degree hot weather and filmed multiple clips averaging 35 minutes long (air show) and has taken it all with zero overheating, no software glitches, and just straight up works/reliable.
I could never say that about my GoPro 9 - even the one that worked for a long time was buggy with its screen.
Not saying there could be issues in the future or even manufacturing defect models out there, but from my experience I am currently about two months of constant use and the GP12 just straight up works.

For me, the overheating issue with the GoPro is unacceptable. My job requires to wear a camera on my chest and record for few hours. While likely most people, including myself, won’t notice whether the video was captured using the Action 3 or the 11; I will know. In all video comparisons to me the GoPro had more detailed images. Even including this video your hat has more detail in the GoPro. The Action 4’had blown out colours. Your face is washed out in some sections while the GoPro maintained a more natural looking image. While the price and convenience is much better on the Action 4, for me image quality is still a bit better on the GoPro. You look better and thinner on the DJI Action 4, could be a selling point? Just saying🤔

I was a big fan of dji osmo. On these videos the gopro has more details and natural color. Osmo seems overexposed in light areas and loses details. Hdr is better in gopro. Sound is better in osmo.

      I tend to agree here

All that matters is reliability. They are action cameras. All else is basically comparable imo. Test should be how many times each fails in 100 tries of quick shot. And I’m sure the dji will be way better. Gopros suck. They fail all the time

I feel like that is the one question nobody has answered or showed a reliability concern with the 12...although I totally agree with previous editions.

I can’t understand why anyone would say the DJI is better image quality than the GoPro.
    GoPro is far far better.
The GoPro is still king as far as im concerned. The Action 4 is a good camera but the GoPro is just better.
He never demoed the Audio straight from the Camera of the A4 which how most people use it.
I know the GoPro has superior Audio straight out of the unit.
For me you want an Action Camera get a GoPro, you want a 360 Camera get an Insta360 you cant a Drone get a DJI.
These 3 companies excel in their prime product

The earlier gopro 9-11 couldn't do the preview because there was a Pat. Lawsuit

I changed Action 4 to Gopro 11 Black - due to the ugly DJI flares.

I really want the GoPro to be dethroned, especially after my last one bricked for no reason after 14 months. The DJI 4.0 looks to have way better features and functionality. However, the GoPro video quality along with the best-in-class HyperSmooth tech, and now with the Max Lens Mod 2.0 and horizon lock - it simply still produces better video (just an opinion). In every side by side with the Action 4.0 - the GoPro footage looks better to me (not by a crazy margin, but better still). I really hope the next generation of DJI produces something that produces better video than the GoPro, because I love everything else about it.

That's a common point for sure...that the GoPro looks better in most cases. I'm testing out the Insta360 Ace Pro right now and that too is a great camera

Great review. One point I would make having owned 7 GOPROs, regardless of what you think of DJI/Insta (main competitors) the problem is this: GOPRO has experienced a huge shift in their customer service standards. Previously, as a subscriber they would honor the warranty and fix/replace. Currently, I have a GOPRO 10 that has experienced multiple bouts of failures resulting in complete data loss multiple times. I am still a subscriber and they have not fixed my issue, despite HOURS of phone calls to off shore customer service reps, nor responded to ANY emails I have sent. I am so disappointed with their customer service and the fact that they didn't honor the replacement standards they offer members.

Thanks sucks. Nothing worse than A) losing footage and B) terrible custom service.

Anyone notice the details behind him? DJI blows the GoPro away lol Sad, 12 gen camera, they should be at the top of the list.

GoPro 12 has better quality, but the Media Mod just to use an external mic, etc. is very greedy idea
