Great video, thank you Kevin and Casey. I also am in a wheelchair. I first carried in the bag underneath my wheelchair but I wondered what would happen if I needed it quick or got thrown from my chair so I started carrying with an outside the waistband holster at the 3 o'clock position but could never tuck in my shirt, so now I wear an IWB hybrid type holster at the same position and it works well for me.

Fantastic! I've been in a wheelchair for 17 years and I've tried numerous positions. A shoulder holster or a cross draw is what works well for me. Love this video. Keep them coming.

Thanks for the video I'm disabled persons and we need more gear, trainer with the capacity to work with people who can't made the normal stuff. But because of our disability we are the easy target. I wrote to USCCA because I am a member and Kevin was included on the email to create something adaptive, our disability don't limited us to want to compete and win, get certification of trainer for people with physical challenge.

I use the holster setup that scotworks has made. I love it. The absolute greatest set up. Extremely fast to draw from.

Good video, guys! As a kind of wounded warrior myself, using crutches to get around, I too find conventional carry methods ill-suited for my needs for pretty much the same reasons stated here in the video. The only tried and true cary method that works for me is a fanny pack with crappy concealed holster inside, secured in there with velcro. In fact, CrossBreed holsters has a velcro-backed kydex one I've been meaning to try for better retention.

worked with a paraplegic in a wheelchair figuring out where to put his weapon. His wheelchair had sides on it. His legs had atrophied completely. I glued a big piece of loop velcro to the inside of the left panel of the wheelchair. I put the hook velcro on his holster. It turned out, cross drawing was the best solution for him. He just kept a towel on his lap to cover it up. He did have his CCW. On the opposite side of his chair we did the same setup for his extra magazine. The reason we used the velcro was it was simple for him to take it off his chair when he wasn't sitting in it. There is an "industrial strength velcro", which is the type that we used.

I've been in a wheelchair for about 23 years now after a parachute accident and carry concealed almost all of the time. I've tried a variety of things and some worked, others failed, and some sort of worked. I have a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2 that's in IWB holster for my Kimber Ultra Carry, and it works, sort of. It does work in a way, though it's not really uncomfortable I just don't like it, I suppose in part because it can wreck the look of an outfit. I use an ankle holster a great deal and just accept the fact that I can't get to it in a hurry. The way that it's shown carried here is interesting, but I don't like carrying a gun that's not locked and cocked, and as stated in the video that wouldn't be a good idea with that style of carry. I don't like to carry on my wheelchair, my thinking being that if I'm mugged or assaulted that the first thing that would or could happen is that I'd be separated from my chair, and if the gun is seen by the perpetrator then I've in effect armed him. In cooler months, and TN doesn't have enough of those, I can wear a light jacket even inside and a shoulder holster is great. Some people find it uncomfortable, but many people don't wear it correctly, as it should be tucked up under your armpit. I thought that I'd notice it more when pushing a wheelchair, but I don't. I wouldn't want to do a marathon that way, or ride my handcycle, but for every day carry that works.
    Just my thoughts on it.

Temporarily in wheel chair, I use shoulder holster for Glock 17 and high-waist holster for 1911 .45 cal. Yes, two guns at once, and like Mr. Davis said, I forget the weapons are with me.

Im glad to see this video and hope you do a few more. I have written in several times with no response for people with disabilities. I am disabled but not in a wheelchair. I have asked about legal situations with disabled people as well. I would like to see if you can discuss people with other disabilities and also some legal questions as well. I hope to hear from you, I would like to give some insight. Thank you.

Kevin, I am one of those people that have been emailing about this. I think it's great that you are tackling this subject. One of my other questions was folks with a cane. I am still able to carry with just about any holster. My problem is losing balance without my cane. Any ideas to train and pass on to my students?

They have flip open guns now that like a Derringer but a 6 shot instead of 2 . I'm in a wheelchair now and can't move my legs and feel vulnerable to attack. This guy is real and not selling anything and is right you can't carry a pistol comfortable without getting it tangled .

Kevin, it's been at least 8 months since you posted this episode, and still no updates. I was taught 1 very important lesson by my tactical shooting instructor, have my gun on me, not my wheelchair. If not a holster attached to a belt, or bellyband, shoulder holster, then use a purpose made fannypack holster. there are a number of them on the market.
So when are you going to air the follow-up to this one. When you do, please keep in mind that many of us in wheelchairs are in power wheelchairs, not rigid frame "sports chairs".

  • @jrbailey3208

Wheelchair setups for 'under the seat' and under the carriage are a MARKET waiting to be tapped!!
It would be relatively easy to design and then sew a compact cordura/nylon holster/extra mag(s) 'holster' which can be easily attached via a velcro system, to the wheelchair frame.
Mouse guns/sub-compact holster/mag setup could also be designed for easy access in the crotch area of the padding, so the person can simply reach down and pull it out from under the cushion, which has no pressure on it from the person's body.
Great video and one that is BADLY needed for those folks in wheelchairs.
I'm still ambulatory, though with 3 herniations in my lumbar and 3 compressions in my necks, along with Malignant CHF-III, I'm very vulnerable to physical assault, even though I look reasonably healthy (6'1" 275). I usually carry in a fanny pack, but also have an IWB from Crossbreed (their full size holster, as I carry a CZ85B) which I use.
The bottom line is that those of us in ill health, or whom are chair bound, we need to constantly think 'outside the box' for much of what we do in our daily lives, and that includes personal protection needs. I applaud USCCA for making the effort to address the needs of MILLIONS of people who have just as much right to personal protection as any healthy person.
Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY

We are a lot of people but the gun shops want to tell us what we need without thinking on our seft protection not what we want. I Lear to modify my Glock by my self because for gunsmith they think the modification are cosmetic...

I have multiple back problems that if I'm not being very easy at moving my nerves will pinch and I'm out for a while until the swelling and I am able to get relief from the nerves. So yes please more

I keep my hill people gear kit bag under my chair with my Glock in it. It's always close at hand. And if I'm going out I can simply wear the kit bag on my chest and have direct access to my pistol since it has a concealed carry pocket. I suggest checking out hill people gear "kit bag".

Diamond D Custom Leather makes an excellent chest holster. I wear it daily with a 1911 under bib overalls, and sling it low and to the left so it's more of a cross draw. Very comfortable and configurable.
