  • Etsy SEO for 2021 is going in a more personalized direction, and for beginning sellers (or any seller) it's going to be important to know how it works and what to think about when you're planning your titles and tags. However, if you're thinking that you have to match everything exactly, that's too simplistic.
    Long tail keyword strategy does NOT necessarily mean that you want to match every long tail keyword exactly. In this video I talk about how to sell on Etsy for beginners, and what NOT to do when you first start out. The search engine isn't as absolute in what to do or not to do as people say, and if you understand how Etsy search works you'll be able to make your own decisions based on your own shop's situation.

    I started Etsy in 2006. I was so happy that I was able to use “human readable” titles (unlike eBay). I think the titles we have to use are sloppy and weird looking. I wonder if customers ever bother reading the titles and if they don’t, why does Etsy even show them? I think most customers are just looking at the pictures because a string of words seemingly randomly put together is annoying. That was why Etsy pushed for the “short but sweet” titles-they were pushing sellers to figure out a way to make our descriptions make sense to buyers. It never worked. I don’t understand why they can’t just use the keywords and any words used in the description.

      They’ve said that using the descriptions is difficult because there are so many sellers with so many different formats in their descriptions, which makes sense. For a long time the weird titles were rewarded in search, so getting people to write in more of a sentence structure is like training cats who don’t want to learn new tricks. I’ve always written my titles in a semi-sentence way but people are just resistant to it.

    Hello!
    I recently started watching SEO videos, and I saw one person saying that if I'm making changes to my listings, I should duplicate them and relist them, because otherwise it's useless.
    Is this true? It feels sort of like a lot of cost for only a potential fix. If I need to fix it again later, it ends up adding up quickly when you have lots of listings!
    Thank you for the helpful tips, it seems that so far you're one of the few that isn't saying that I need to pay you $200+ for hearing tips!

      It's reversed, we've discussed this before, and it's staying that way because I'm not climbing up to switch it out! I tell people to pretend it's on a flagpole and you're standing on the backside of the pole looking at it :)

    You are the best at doing this germain to Etsy. Really good info. Any thoughts on the relationship between the number of listings compared to searches and sales? I noticed you have 900.

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  3 года назад

      Thank you! On Etsy more listings are better, just for volume, but a lot of my listings don't get visits until someone is looking for something really specific, so it's not critical. I know people how have 1 or 2 listings and sell regularly.

    Kara my question is about choosing low competition keywords. You have mentioned it is better to choose a low competition phrase because certainly getting 10 views per month from that is better than getting none from a high comp word where you will not be found. But since

    Hi Kara, Thank you for this video. I have a question about tags and title and "glueing them together" to make them better/stronger? Ex.Framed Wall Art, then Art for the wall....so using art as the first word in the next tag because it was the last word in the prior tag? Learned this technique and really questioning now... Thanks for your help!

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  3 года назад

      It's not really a technique, it's just writing sentences :) If the words are in the right order when you put them all together they'll be found in that order if Etsy looks for the fragments of the sentence. It doesn't make them "stronger," per se, but it will put them there in the right order.

    Hey, I just ran into this video and I wanted to ask something. If I am selling something in a European country that doesn't have the main language being English, should I try and focus on the language of that country (listings, titles, tags etc) or does Etsy have some sort of a translation when it comes to keywords and SEO generally? Thanks for the video, some pretty useful stuff!

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  3 года назад +1

      Etsy translates your listings, and they say not to use foreign words because it doesn't matter. The only time I've ever seen it make a difference is when it's French and it involves Quebec, which is English and French-speaking but is in Canada where the default language is set to English.

    I do not understand Etsy long-tail keywords. I just opened my shop, but I am finding it hard to put them in the right place because they have limited characters. If I split them up, will it still be read as a long-tail keyword?
