Albert and Serena discuss the pros and cons of living in Rhode Island: from the delicious food, and the great arts and cultural scenes, to pot holes and high taxes - they cover four pros and four cons of life here in the great Ocean State. At the end of the day, despite the shitty public education and the never ending road construction, we love living here and we love that the many pros (that go way beyond the ones we discuss here) of living here are attracting so many others to join us!
*We love that so many people are contacting us thinking about moving here to Rhode Island! If you're considering making the move over here or to nearby Southern MA, we are happy to help. Reach out anytime!*

I’ve known quite a few people over time move from the UK to RI and really have enjoyed their time here. Or stayed permanently.
The biggest downfalls are how seasonal everything is here. You’d probably understand as well as England does get some big weather swings through the year as well. Winters here according on location can be quite dead in comparison to the summers

Rhode Island has beautiful summers and pretty autumns, but the winters are way too long and deary. I lived in Maryland for 41 years. I moved to Maui Hawaii 4 years ago. Probably true, Rhode Island is one of the more expensive states... But it (and New England in general) also has an abundance of multifamily homes, a real asset... while many other states are vast majority single family homes, a liability, another monthly bill... So that's a upside...

People make the state what it is and the social norms that exist in any area. Perhaps you didn’t want to offend anyone, but you didn’t touch upon the most important aspect of what makes any area of the country good or bad - the people.
Having personally lived in Maryland, DC, Illinois, Arizona and overseas my opinion is that it is very challenging for “outsiders” to move here without already having a support network, family or “marrying into” RI. People that grew up in RI rarely leave the state to see how other people behave or how others outside of RI or New England define “friendly”. If you are accustomed to “midwest nice” or are considering moving to RI or New England without any existing family in the area, you will likely have a very difficult experience. I would not put RI on the top of any list considering whether it is welcoming for non-RI outsiders.
The state is extremely insular and frankly lacks cultural diversity of most other major or midsized cities. You can draw your own conclusions about what that may result in if you are not part of the more prominent backgrounds that make up the state. There are some very noticeable racial perspectives in RI that are not great for people who enjoy more culturally diverse locations.
Beautiful state from a geographic standpoint and all the pros/cons on this video are spot on.
Been here over five years now and not sure that we will stay beyond having our last kid finish high school. Relationships for outsiders can feel very “transactional” particularly if you didn’t already have a family or friend connection to get you into the accepted outsider category.

I would just like to say that I have really no opinion of whether Rhode Island is one of the worst places in the US but I will say this video is a perfect example of systemic racism and the denial it's real. it. I would almost put money on it that these 2 live in a high class area or at least above average.
I am a poor white 40. I moved from Boston because I had to go on disability due to seizures unfortunately Leaving my teaching job. This video is a perfect example of white elitist appearing amazingly blind to what actually is going on in society today. Or are they choosing to purposely keep it under wraps because the truth will affect their real-estate commission. Here lies the issue with many white people they deny systemic racism willingly watch occurrence of someone being absolutely wronged in their presence and keep it hush because it is easier for them and they benefit from it.
In the video they were reacting (cracking) on, the woman referred to people on the corner "slinging dope". The two laughed hysterically and made fun of the word slinging . I don't know if they live in 2022 ever leave their neighborhood. I live in what I'm sure they would call the "hood" but to me it's a neighborhood, it's my home . Over the winter in the empty parking lot of a closed store there was mattresses chairs and table set up for the people who lived there. Not one day do I go out and someone is not asking me or making a deal at the moment. In the morning I wait 45 minutes at the methadone clinic because there are so many there. In a span of 2 Weeks (2022winter) 19 overdoses happened in my area These are issues going on right now and to laugh at it really just made me sad and hurt that the evolution of civilization seems to have reversed. I'm sure the hosts and others will dismiss this comment because the author of it ,me, is a junkie who wants to live in that. I'm a college graduate I went to grad school and come from a well to do family. Being on disability is not something I took advantage of not to work I didn't want to have seizures. And in my financial bracket I am god damn proud to have an apartment and grateful because I recognize the amount living on the street. You know people shouldn't be laughing at someone hardships. I know not everyone is going to help out voice when there is wrong but atleast admit it's happening. And think of when u laugh at someone and remember what is said to children "how would u like it." Now there were other parts they demonstrated egotistical and plain concietedness but I had to voice this part. I do want them honestly explain why they are on a higher level than others and I'm not asking in sarcasm but curiosity.

been living in RI my entire life, heres my 2 cents.
pro 1. State of convenience: True but SO false.
10-15 minutes from wherever you need to go is pretty true, but 20 minutes away in RI is like a road trip... SMH. People complain about the distance. "oh well its 20 minutes there and then its 20 minutes back and its an hour long ordeal..."
con 1. yeah ive never really had a problem with this.
pro 2: eh. yeah kinda true. chinese food is a hit or miss though, but good food.
con 2: HELL YES TAXES ARE THROUGH THE ROOOF!
pro 3: yeah we got good colleges, and even the worst one (CCRI) isn't bad at all.
con 3: true, our public education is total crap.
pro 4: cant really speak to that
con 4: literally yesterday i pulled over cus i thought i had a flat tire (my car was shaking so bad). nope it was just a lot of potholes.
