    Not to take Anything from the genius of Vinnie, but I wish more people would understand & give props to how Equally important it is to have cats on stage who can keep it altogether While a drummer like Vinnie starts to bend & stretch the time. None of what Vinnie did or does, matters unLess the cats on stage with him know what's up & can follow or know when Not to follow him. It's a Catasrophe when everyone doesn't hold up there end musically. It's a lot easier to be "free" when you Know for Sho the cats you're playing with can hold it together while you(whomever that is, but in this case Vin) lets go & has some fun. Imagine if Abe didn't know where the "1" was, or decided to go with Vin instead of holding the quarter note walk down(which is what made what Vin sound so great)?? It would've been a Hot Mess!! LOL!! Big Ups to ALL those cats/Legends on stage!! Sorry for my long windedness… :)JT

      Exactly. Greg Mathieson is a living metronome. His timeandgrooveplaying here is I N S A N E ! And their ability to make Vinnie sound so good and vice versa is just from a different planet! Players don't come better than this pack!

  • @remito71

    Vinnie, the one and only. There may be a lot of good drummers on the planet now, the only one I get back to is always Vinnie. He's unique. He knows how to play incredible stuff, and keeping grooving at the same time.

  • @fr0103
    @fr0103 5 лет назад +3

    This is not a band but individual (world class) musicians jamming in the same time and space. There is a lot less "following" and "listening" going on than there is "internal clock" and "individual creativity." A standard 12-bar I-IV-V blues with chord substitutions -- playing as a group is an after thought. Vinnie plays mostly straight ahead - for Vinnie - open fills, transitioning back and forth from 1/2 time to double time to time. More cymbal work from Vinnie in this rendition which is always welcome genius. An overall tight ensemble (as you'd expected) from these guys ... what makes it unique is the merging (and clashing) of individual styles and improvisational skill, the rest is another day at the office.

      I read an interview once where he discussed it; this is one of the older ones, a 8-string that he played when touring with Koinonia in the 80's. I *think* maybe it's a Valley Arts Custom, I've seen that on forum posts, but that almost doesn't sound right either. Might be a VA though.
      These days it's pretty much Yamaha or Wyn, otherwise, although he's as prolific as Lee Sklar and everyone who makes guitars gives him a bass in hopes he'll show up someplace using it....
