Wayne Shorter's Footprints is such a cool tune for improvisation. Herbie Hancock was on the first two original recordings of this tune. The one with Miles Davis had Vinnie Coliauta's hero on it... Tony Williams.
McBride is so damn amazing all these guys listen to each other like their lives depend on it. They sound like they would die for one another. What can be said about Vinnie Coliauta??? He's a complete combo of everything great in drumming rolled into a nice Vinnie package... One of my favorite drummers since I first watched him back in 89' on Ziljion day NY 1984 and The Buddy Rich tribute scholarship 89'. Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage, Tinseltown Rebellion, Allan Holdsworth Secrets.

I'm so immensely proud to be part their generation - their influence on 20'th century music is innestimable and Vinnie... hands down - there are many really, really great and talented drummers, but no one touches Vinnie's undying versatility and endless ablity to surprise. His game never settled in routine and repetitive patterns, he never seizes to amaze .

Cousin von Erich I agree. If you listen to a lot of his bootlegged drum clinic solos. He hardly repeats himself. Always sounding fresh. In one of his clinics, he said that he really doesn’t care if he makes a mistake. He always goes for stuffs that’s new to him on the spot. Maybe that’s why he has a vast array of vocabulary to speak on the drums.
