When Yugoslavia was attacked in 1999 without the approval of the Security Council, and that was actually Serbia, which is a traditional ally of Russia, it set off the alarm in Russia that NATO would not stop and that at some point there would have to be a military conflict, whether directly or indirectly, that is why power in Russia and Putin came as a patriot who will return Strength and dignity to Russia, Russia prepared for a long time, knowing that it would inevitably come.
Russia still hoped that a conflict would not occur, but in 2014 everything changed when the legally elected president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, was removed from power by violence, and since then it was only a matter of time before the escalation would occur.

Oh NATO countries know. They know that they have made a devastatingly huge mistake; you do NOT fight Russia on it's home turf. If NATO doesn't pull back soon, it will cease to exist. It's only reason for being was to counter Russia. NATO countries should walk away from the USA. They should try to live peacefully, and use their war money for hospitals, schools, roads, high speed rail. Quit wasting money killing folks that want to live peaceful lives.

This interview - which I’d already seen and found had resurfaced on the 30 year anniversary of its first appearance on PBS - delivers the final checkmate. There are many - particularly in Germany - who argue that Putin alone is the problem, that assurances were never given or were completely non-binding, or that the later establishment of the NATO-Russia Council took care of the issue and that at that point the Russians had no problem with NATO expansion and are thus just using it as a smokescreen to mask their purported “imperialism”. This interview establishes, definitively, that they had a problem with NATO expansion going back to the early years of the Yeltsin presidency, essentially from day one, and that NATO simply spat in their faces and told them, sometimes politely, sometimes less so: “Go to *!!!” We lied to them, they’re on to it, and thus as a result reaching any future agreements with them is going to be infinitely more difficult. It’s time Western politicians, diplomats and military officials got this fact rubbed under their noses until they finally get it, and realize that it’s not Putin and / or the Russians alone who are responsible for the catastrophically dangerous situation we’re now in.

    • @Matt-yg8ub

It’s relatively easy for leaders in the west to lie to the people and claim that any assurances that were given were non-binding, claim that Russia is lying and insist that it’s perfectly OK for them to continually expand and always push closer and closer to Moscow until one day they’ve taken all the territory and now they need to push into Russia in order to “protect the west”

The really big thing is firstly, oil and gas reserves, that are enormous near the Caspian Sea and Siberia. And also supposedly the Yuzivska shale gas field is three time the reserve of Norway. The whole war in the region should be named the Yuzivska gas field war, not something else.
The second big thing is normalizing the use of earth penetrating weapons, buried-burst mininukes.
It is obvious that a the zog one-world govt have to streamline its army, and for that you need to use the power of the atom.
A couple planes droping 0,5 kilotons earth penetrating weapons is like doing air raids with hundreds of planes for several days. What has been achieved in Gaza with 80,000 tons of munitions and hundred of sorties, hundred of planes, thousands tons of fuel, can be achived in a single sortie.
Using a forray of unconventionnal weapons, including small nukes, is obviously the only way a one-world govt can shut down any dissent and sit its power.
So in fact Washington is very much happy to have someone else make the first step of using a nuclear vector, so that they can say "oh noes we are forced to use nukes too, boohoo".

Also as we know, NATO taking Ukraine/Crimea means taking away Russia's access to the Black Sea, which is why Russia grabbed Crimea after the US coup on Kiev in 2014. As someone said, Russia without Crimea is a regional power, with it it is a global power.

    • @Matt-yg8ub

My only caveat would be Russia chose to annex Crimea in 2014 because the Ukrainians were trying to force them out. The Russians had been in Crimea since the 1780s.

All of this misses the underlying point: geo-politics is just a competitive game, where you are either pushing or defending the line of contact. Physical lines, economic lines, contractual lines, and even philosophical lines.. Seriously, that's the big point you are missing. You honestly think that had Russia been the victor of the cold war, they wouldn't have done the same? A lot of this is people just forming narratives that suit themselves. Had Biden came out and said that "NATO was just there to antagonize Russia" and provided zero support for Ukraine, the Right would of have been calling him a pu**y, that he wasn't defending Western civilization, and would of been arguing the fact that Russia has lost influence because of their poorly run state. You can use true premises to support a false conclusion.
Despite what Putin tells Tucker Carlson, Russia was never going to be an ally of the West. Never. And not just because the West didn't trust Russia, but because Russia is its own center of power and it makes sense for them geo-strategically to be competitive and align with states that are counter Western interest. And I'm not sure if you noticed, but Russia has this victim mentality in their culture that blames the West for their failures.

We cooperated together with the War on Terrorism and WW2, but they have always been their own power center. Can that change? Yeah, given a philosophical alignment of the two countries, but that's not likely to happen. The Russian state has never accepted Western ideals or vice versa.

    • @m1force
